A blog about hoodies & t-shirts

Free-tastic

Wanna win a fanta… great t-shirt from Fantastic Bonanza?

Well, they’re going to be running a competition every month in which you can do just that. This month’s question is:

“What is the most FANTASTIC thing that has ever happened ever?”

You just need to go to this page of their blog, and leave your answer in the comments (remember to include your e-mail in the info section!). There’s only 6 people that have entered at the moment (unless more have e-mailed entries in) so you actually have quite a good chance of winning.

Merchandising 101 with Spreadshirt

I know that quite a lot of people who read this blog actually produce and sell products themselves, so even though this post is a bit off topic it will appeal to some of you.

Spreadshirt, an online merchandising company that hosts many online shops, are going to be holding the first in a series of ‘webinars’ starting today at 2-3pm EST. The super-sexy title for today’s webinar is “T-Shirts and Hats and Bags, Oh My!: Merchandising Your Brand 101″. I don’t really know how this kind of thing is going to work, although the format seems to be 20 minutes of them giving tips followed by 15 minutes of people asking questions. I’ll probably be in attendance (although the time difference does make things a bit awkward for me), so if you can’t get involved I’ll do a bit of a follow-up later.

If you want to register and reserve a ’seat’ then head over to this link. Oh, and this is open to everyone, not just people who have shops with Spreadshirt.

*I didn’t realise that you needed to call a number in the US (and a 1 hour phonecall to the US would be a tad pricey for me) so that I could hear what was going on in the webinar, so I wouldn’t want to pass judgement on it, anyone else get the full experience? Thoughts?*

What a bombshell!

droppingbombs What a bombshell!

I’ve said it before (probably) and I’ll say it again, Digital Gravel produce the goods time and time again, even if they go for stuff that’s more streetwear orientated than I usually cover. Today’s hoodie pick is no exception.

I know there are lots of people out there that are obsessed with sneakers, so this hoodie should be right up your alley. It’s a fun comic-y design featuring shoe boxes (’bombs’) dropping to the ground. I think a design like this is better being on the back of a hoodie, especially considering the size of the print, and the design would have been ruined by the zip-up as well. Let’s blurb it out:

“A special delivery from Sneak Tip as their bomber flies overhead, releasing new shoe boxes on the masses, exploding as they hit the ground for the back print. Nice Sneak Tip logo embroidery on the front left in orange.”

Cotton, it just, Werks

berryThievesShirtTemplate Cotton, it just, WerksberryThievesProductMedium Cotton, it just, Werks

Usually, I wouldn’t post a tee site that has just one design available for purchase. But I’ve got a pretty good feeling about Cotton Werks, maybe it’s the fact that their designs are reminiscent of good submissions at Threadless, maybe it’s the soothing use of blue all over the site, but I like’m.

There’s also a real sense that the people behind CottonWerks aren’t out for a quick buck either, if you look at ‘the Blogs‘ (which is a pretty liberal use of the term) then you’ll see that they allow anyone with an account to post questions and in turn they ask questions of their registered members. I like transparency in business and whilst this feature feels slightly clunky (what happens when lots of people start writing), it seems like a great idea.

It’s clearly early days for Cotton Werks, but I’m glad they’ve hit my radar and they’re one new brand I’ll be keeping an eye on.

view3 Weekly Threadless Pick: Threadless

I’m thinking of making a regular (some would say weekly) feature of my favourite Threadless product of the week. Tell me if you think this idea sucks in the comments.

The inaugural pick is actually pretty old-school, well, as old-school as a 7 year-old company can get. Sure, it’s faux-stitched (puff ink, apparently), but that crest is really well thought out, and the four paneles on the shield are pretty funny. I think this design really signifies Treadless’ growth as a community that when this tee was originally printed it came on the back of only 374 votes, compared to the 2335 votes that one of this weeks latest designs.

Also, it’s great that Threadless are releasing more and more hoodies.

The Cotton Filter - 090107

YackFou: They’ve got a really cool theme running over the next three months. T-shirts designed for a fictional band known as ‘The Yackfous’. It’s an idea that I toyed with back at uni, and I still have a fake album promo-poster that one of my housemates made for a fictitious emo band, if I remember correctly, the album was titled “Must Cry Harder”, meh, it made us laugh.

A Better Tomorrow: I really wish I could read German (or work out if this site is available in English) because then I’d be able to give ABT a much bigger review, I’m sure they’re a great company and they’ve got some great designs, I just have no idea what they’re talking about. Essentially it’s a design competition, but there are also ‘brandstores’, which are mini-shops for some great German labels, including Yackfou, Rokko Foyer and Human Empire.

Pistol Clothing: This Australian company specialises in making custom tees. I think it’s a pretty good idea if you’ve had an idea for a tee and just want to make up a one-off using their simple online design creator (although they do wholsesale orders as well ). From the looks of their gallery they do quality work, and from the looks of things they’ve got their own range of designs in development at the moment as well, so keep a lookout for those as well.

Noisebot
: They released a few new funny designs at the weekend, this pocket panda is pretty cute, although it might look a bit weird on a hoodie. I like Noisebot, they’re take on pop culture is a little more subtle than some tee companies out there. Oh, and if you want free shipping on your order this month (when you spend more than $45) use the coupon code LIST45. And just for a change, that’s a coupon code that I couldn’t possible earn anything from!

Little by Little

T916 Little by LittleT916B Little by Little

Oh golly gosh, Little By Jenny is quite the find!

I could have posted pretty much anything from the hoodie section and you’d have been in for a treat. I can’t really think of a reason why I picked this design over the other two available, but it just jumped out at me a bit more (which is pretty unusual for a brown hoodie).

There’s a lot of intricate detail in these hoodies, so it’s a bit of a disappointment that there aren’t any zoomed pictures available, but they still look good nonetheless. All the hoodies have printing on the sides of the hood, and they’ve taken some interesting options in terms of body print placement, so if you’re in the mood for something different you might be in the mood for some Little By Jenny (wow, how much of an ad slogan did that sound?).

Karmaloop’s current sale has hunrdeds and hundreds of items at knocked-down prices, so I’ve tried to take some of the work out of it for you by picking some of my favourite items. Two for guys, two for girls, all with some blurb:

paulfrankbear HYAs Top Picks from the Karmaloop sale

Paul Frank - Brown Bear Shooting Hoodie: Fully zippered, well lined hoody, with button flap pockets at waist. Corduroy shoulder patch detail on right. Bear print on left chest. $59.20 (20% off)

letigreargylemerino HYAs Top Picks from the Karmaloop sale

Le Tigre - Argyle Merino V-neck sweater in Charcoal: Apparently, Argyle isn’t just for socks any more. That’s a good thing because, as this sweater proves, this pattern, on your chest, is the best thing that’s happened to your upper body since the Le Tigre polo. $48 (50% off)

paulfrankshakas HYAs Top Picks from the Karmaloop sale

Paul Frank - The Aqua Drop Shakas sweatshirt: Ummm, what’s a Shaka(s)? This design is fairly reminiscent of those Johnny Cupcakes tees that Urban Outfitters ripped-off (yeah, that’s right I didn’t even add an allegedly to that satement!) but I don’t think Paul Frank would stoop so low as to copy someone else. Did you notice the plaid lining on the hood? Sweet. $29.95 (50% off)

soundgirlracetrack HYAs Top Picks from the Karmaloop sale

Soundgirl - The Race Track Hoodie: Pretty cool distressed checkerboard, with some extra little violator prints put in for good measure. There’s a bit more checkerboard on one sleeve too. I like how they’ve made it pink, but not so ridiculously pink that it goes from girly to girly-girly. $30.95 (28% off)

As ever, if you want to have up to 20% off your order and help support HYA’s charity initiative, please use the affiliate code: AS7594

Brooklyn Industries: Awesome sale

Brooklyn Industries, the purveyors of fine clothing goods, are having a big sale with big discounts. Helpfully, they’ve categorised the products into price categories, although those categories don’t meet each other in the middle, which is weird (eg $10-19 followed by $29-39, odd?).

They’ve got the Griffin Instaria jumper that I mentioned a while back on sale for less than a third of it’s original price, just $19!

I can’t say enough good things about the quality of Brooklyn Industries products (I might even make a purchase myself) so I wholeheartedly recommend that you check it out before everything sells out.

I’m such a Chunky monkey

The guys over at Chunky Threads may only have five designs available at the moment but the seem to have kicked things off with some fun, cheeky, and most importantly, quality designs. There’s definitely a popculture aspect to all their designs, with tees focusing on Mr. T and Chuck Norris, except for a change the designs don’t make you groan at so many of the rushed designs that were clearly made to cash-in on last years roundhouse kicking Chuck Norris hysteria. The blurbs that they put with each tee are pretty fun too, in that irreverent “we’re not going to tell you what this tee is really about” kind of a way.

Oh, and they decided to start the business in a pub and after many nights of drinking, just how much more Australian could they be!
