A blog about hoodies & t-shirts

Cotton Filter: 130507

Wow, when I get up in the morning I actually do stuff, including blogging, maybe I should get up early more often!

Bedlam Clothing: All tees are $6 until they run out. $6 and printed on American Apparel, it really doesn’t get any cheaper then that.

Bean Dip: Sometimes I’ll see some new stuff and I’ll actually go “oh man!”, like, out loud, and that happened when I saw the latest releases from BD. They’ve got a bit flashier with their colourways (some gold foil and silver metallics) and they really suit the aesthetic that I associate with Bean Dip, so I really like the direction they’re heading in. They’ve got some exciting stuff in the pipeline like shoe collaborations and New Era hats, which isn’t really HYAs territory, but I’ll probably still give it a mention anyway.

All the new stuff is up on their Karmaloop Kazbah page.

Momi TEaA Party: Crazy name, cool t-shirts. Subscription based services seem to have been growing in popularity over the past few months, so its hardly surprising that I’m seeing more and more of them landing in my inbox. Momi are keeping things small (they’ve limited subscriptions to 100 people in the first year) whilst they build. They’re on the artsy side of things, and if the designs from the first two months are anything to go by these guys could get pretty popular, pretty quick.

Duck With Glasses: A search engine for t-shirts? Crazy! This is the ‘rough draft’, but I think its a pretty good idea, and if it gets a big enough inventory and people tag things well then it could be a great resource for both customers and store owners.

Illustrated People
: I’d never heard of these guys until HYA reader Steve e-mailed in to tip me off (thanks, Steve!). I like their designs, they have quite a high-end look to them, they aren’t afraid of going big on their prints and of using a bit of colour, which is nice to see.

Shirt City Club: It wouldn’t really be a news post if I didn’t mention a new t-shirt design competition style company. SCC seem to be going down the Spreadshirt route rather than the Threadless route, and the design contest element doesn’t seem to be drawing too much of their focus. One to keep an eye on.

pr-12-1 Spreading Out Promo hoodie by Ten Bills

I like this design, nice colours, an interesting reference to that iconic evolution image, with decent size and placement. Obviously, the design is usually paramount to me, but the reason why I really wanted to show you this is because of the transparency and honesty displayed by Ten Bills with this hoodie. On the back of the hoodie is a big logo that has tenbills.com written on it. I know that a lot of people wouldn’t be keen on this, and I think that Ten Bills knows this too, because of this excerpt from their latest mailout:

“…we’d like to ask you for your help. We have promotional hoodies for sale - they have the Spreading Out design printed on the front and our logo on the back. They’re on sale for $20 if you could help us advertise that would be awesome.”

I respect them for that, and how can I not like a company that’s selling off the rest of their tees for just $7 a piece before the new stuff comes in?

Black Kix Hoodie by DC @ Karmaloop

DCkixhoodie Black Kix Hoodie by DC @ Karmaloop

Another simple yet stylish hoodie by DC, I usually seem to prefer the more in-your-face designs, but I quite like this. Although, I’m not really a fan of DC shoes, so I dunno if its strange that I like seeing their shoes on a hoodie…

No One is Home by Reverie

card_nooneishome No One is Home by Reverie

Reverie contacted me a while back and I was really impressed with the quality of their designs, but its taken me a while to get around to mentioning this hoodie.

There’s quite a lot of layers and elements in the image, I’m generally a fan of this mixed style and Reverie seem to have pulled it off quite nicely. The colour palette is pretty nice as well, although white clothing will always turn some people off simply because you have to be so careful when wearing it.

BlackSea_99 There is Always Hope @ Black Sea Apparel

I know you come here because of my ability to write about hoodies, but sometimes the companies really ‘bring it’ for me:

“Embodying the same concept as our Spiritual Healing design, this design was created to represent hope and renewal. No matter what is in your present and past, there is always hope. Hope to start over. Hope to turn over a new leaf, free of whatever has infected you. Free of making the same mistakes. If you need to start over, do it today. But truly start OVER, don’t just start AGAIN.

*The green print glows in the dark!”

So they’re doing the whole deep and meaningful thing for their blurb, but then they totally go the other way with the glow in the dark printing, love it!

Anyone have any clue how they can be printing this on American Apparel and still only charging $20 for it?

CST_007_lg3 Snake hoodie by Construct Clothing @ elsewares

I really like this hoodie, the dedication to detail in the design is very impressive, admittedly, the pictures aren’t really big enough to make everything out, but it looks like a quality product. Blurb!

“Original design by Robert Mars. The bird that flies into the jaws of the serpent. Very limited edition, get one while you can. Ink graphics on American Apparel hoodie. Made in Brooklyn.”

They aren’t kidding when they say it’s very limited, there’s only sizes small and large left.

It may be a Bank holiday in the UK but I’m not going to let most of the country taking a day off work get in the way of me posting the news!

Le Sucre: The tees aren’t exactly cheap at €33.90, but they do have some utterly fantastic designs.

Hey Unite: The Flickr integration into their website is a little awkward, but they make up for it with some absolutely corking t-shirts. ‘Corking’ is a good thing by the way, but I don’t know what it means.

Attus Apparel: I’m not really the kind of guy that wears polo shirts, but I’m sure that there must be some of you out there that like that kind of thing, and Attus have got some different designs to the usual crocodile and man riding a horse that I see being sported on nights out.

Dynasty Goods: I don’t claim to understand hip hop and the clothing that is associated with it, but I do love their logo!

Blake Hamster: I’ve got a bit of flak recently for featuring items that are too expensive for most people, and that’s cool, I understand, but every so often I enjoy pointing you towards clothes that cost €150 just because the higher end of fashion is good to look at even if you can’t enjoy it. And as that woman said in The Devil Wears Prada, what’s on the high end now ends up on the high street in a few months (yes, I saw The Devil Wears Prada, I was on a ferry and had nothing else to do, but I did rather enjoy it).

Gilbert Clothing: I’m catching the Gilbert train a little late (quite a few designs are now sold out), but they’re still well worth a look, and season two is going to be out pretty soon so I’ll keep an eye out for that and let you know.

Eagle hoodie @ indie shopper

eaglehoodie Eagle hoodie @ indie shopper

Ok, not that I want writing HYA to sound like a chore, I love it. But… it’s Friday night, I’ve got a belly full of Heineken, and my friends that I lived with at university have come up to visit for the weekend and I don’t really want to spend much time on the internet. So I’m just going to give you indie shoppers pretty uninteresting blurb:

“-100% Fleece cotton,
-Kangaroo pocket
-Comfortable hood with drawstring
-Stretchy, comfortably fitted double-stitched cuffs and hem.
-Wrap around design.”

Yeah, you got the facts, but where’s the pizazz?!

bonappetit_big Bonappetit Hoodie by Johnny Cupcake

No trees and birds, disappointed?

Seeing a guy on Sunday wearing a Johnny Cupcakes tee (classic logo tee in black/silver colourway) reminded me that I should see if they had anything in that I hadn’t seen before, and yes, they did. I wouldn’t mind seeing the cupcake print quite a bit bigger, but otherwise I really like the design, and using colours that are pretty close to the French flag is cool too (although the blue is a little too light if we’re going for accuracy points here).

Printed on American Apparel.

Winter hoodie by Artus Clothing

winter_1 Winter hoodie by Artus Clothing

Ok, it’s no longer $68 week, but it seems to be rapidly turning into tree and bird week!

Its a pity that they don’t have a real life picture of this hoodie, because I’d like to see it in the fleshcotton to see how the design transferred over to print. But judging by their other pictures of printed up designs being worn by people they look like Artus Clothing know what they’re doing when it comes to having clothes printed up, so I think it’s fairly safe to say that this jacket would look good if you were to make a purchase.

Artus also have some really cool tees that you’ll probably want to check out.
