Man, this pattern is just about as hot as they come, its available in a load of colourways, but I think that this black and white combo really sits well with the tone of the design. Blurb:
“The Otani Fleece features an incredible all-over print of a diamond shaped arrangement of four different emblems of skulls, crests, shields, and Adidas logos. Inside the right pocket is a special hidden pocket for an MP3 player, with a loop at the collar to seamlessly integrate your headphones.”
Stylish and functional, what more could you ask for? It being cheaper, obviously (cough, use my 10/20% off code, cough).

One of the biggest gripes that I had about Threadless was that they didn’t pay people when their designs were reprinted. I guess this was something that a lot of people have said since they’ve now changed their policy so that every time a design gets reprinted, the artist gets $500. They’ve even upped the original cash reward to $2500 as well (may they were getting jealous of Design By Humans and their rather well-endowed prize-packages).
They’ve also started the ‘Alumni Club‘, I’ll let their news release explain.
“…we’ve always wanted to do cool random stuff for designers that have been selected other than just paying out cash and now we have the ability to do so. When you first win, you will get access to the Alumni Club area in the blog forum, a membership card, a totally sweet Alumni Club medal of honor, an Alumni Club tee shirt, an Alumni Club coffee mug and a fancy Alumni Club mousepad. We plan to offer other awesome stuff for Alumni Club members in the future so stay tuned! And yes, everyone who has been selected in the past will have the opportunity to get all of these goodies.”
I think that’s something that is sorely needed within the Threadless community, and I’m pretty sure that this is linked getting desingers to pick future Threadless tees, as was recently mentioned in their New York Times article.
I wonder if the $500 for reprints is retrospective, I doubt it, but I’m sure the people that made ‘Flowers in the Attic’ and ‘The Communist Party’ wouldn’t mind their reprint cash!
Here’s the blog post from Threadless.
I haven’t been mentioning the weekly Threadless updates for a while simply because I wasn’t really being wow-ed by any of the new items, but these two tees this week have really blown me away.
‘Play‘ really just feels like a thorough-bred design that has been honed by so many years of people creating ‘that’ Threadless look. The illustration isn’t overly complicated, but still looks really good, and like a lot of Threadless classic designs, it’s funny, but not that funny.
‘Sugar and Spice‘ on the other hand doesn’t really have the Threadless feel, it almost looks like it should have been released as part of the Select range. The level of detail is really impressive as well, though as ever with this kind of design, I do wonder how well it can be printed and how long the print will last, I’ve only ever bought relatively simple Threadless tees, but for some reason I don’t think that their printing process would be able to stand up to repeated washing with this level of detail.
Here’s another brand who’ve spent far too long in my inbox and not enough time on the site, Sehubabe, a group of four Belgians who’re making really rather nice tees. Their website looks pretty nifty too, simplicity can be beauty!
