I don’t think that this is one of their newer designs, but hot damn it is a good looking tee, the colour palette is just superb. Although I don’t really know what the general perception would be amongst the public of someone wearing a tee that appears to have a woman taking her top off on it…

You can still get 20% “off the whole damn store” at XLarge, but even better news is that you can get 50% off their Archives, older designs that have been “preserved in special polly” bags.

Review: Hairy Family by Paper Root Clothing

25 Review: Hairy Family by Paper Root Clothing

I’ve been looking at Paper Root’s various designs, and I’ve noticed that none of them are all that similar, and yet, they also manage to have the same general feel or presumed-ethos about them. That’s a pretty important characteristic to have when you’re trying to establish a brand and get your name out there, and something that’s hard to achieve when you’ve got a surprisingly large number of artists contributing their designs to a label.

This tee kinda reminds me of illustrations from books that I used to read as a kid, and yeah, I guess in retrospect those images were probably a little bit creepy to be in a children’s book, but nevertheless, my comparison remains! I guess that’s what makes me feel as if this is a retro looking image, or at least a retro kind of style for a tee, although illustrations in this style are still pretty popular. The image itself.is really impressive, I like the almost doodle-like quality, as if the designer was just working on different hairy characters and this was what their sketchbook looked at the end of the day. Also, this tee works with my totally lame theory that nature (bees, in this case) provides a good basis for a colourway.

Quality is impressive. The stock tee is provided by American Apparel, so I’d imagine that if you’re reading this review then you’ve got an AA tee in your wardrobe and know all about the softness of the tee and its rather slim (but not too slim) cut. The print itself is pretty soft, especially when being warn, so have no fears over it it being scratchy..
