40s Bling by Triko

triko 40s Bling by Triko

Here’s something that surprised me today, other than finding my route to the supermarket blocked off by the cycling tour of Great Britain (which was odd), Triko, a well known streetwear brand, are at heart a bunch of hippie environmentalists. According to this post on Treehugger, Triko is “streetwear with a soul”, among other things “Triko is a sweatshop-free enterprise, strives to source fabrics and materials from sustainable sources and supports clean energy through the purchase of renewable energy credits.” It might just be me, but I always thought that streetwear labels were more about excessive consumption than being sustainable and helping endangered species (something they’re also involved in).

Of course, the goods need to match up to the heart-warming story, and I’m pleased to say that they usually do, even if it isn’t always the kind of thing that I’d wear, I particularly thought that the cartoon characters patterns on this all-over print hoodie was interesting.

Party with the Tcritic in Las Vegas

PICT5577

Even though I live thousands of miles away, I would be sorely tempted to go to this event, but ‘unfortunately’ I’ll be working in St. Tropez again, so I’m afraid I’ll have to raise a glass to you tee lovers from on top of a yacht.

Karl Long (aka, the Tcritic) is hoping to host a party in Las Vegas later next month for people that like tees. As if people needed an excuse to go to, he’s making the deal even sweeter by giving everyone who goes their choice of tee from Threadless, and putting $1200 behind the bar (free booze!). He’s also hoping to get some tee companies involved, maybe with a fashion show or something similar.

If you wanna go, or if you wanna help sponsor the event, check out this page on Tcritic.

That’s not exactly a whole lot more information I can give you beyond the headline. Here’s the link. Maybe 25% off will make their shipping prices more palatable. Oh, and this one is just for the men, sorry ladies.

pelican Cotton Gang bands together to help others

Maybe I should just accept that I’ve lost my titling mojo for good and stick to the informative style?

Cotton gang are running a pretty interesting concept for their line of tees, I’ll let their blurb explain it far more succinctly than I possibly could.

The aim of this new venture is to continue producing art and getting a chance
to work with some of our favorite artists. The concept is simple; we pick an
artist every season and give them a blank Canvas on three shirts. Then we create
three shirts of our own, which the artist collaborates on. The result is a
totally original line every season.

The second part of this venture is to create income for the artist, so that
they may continue creating art. So large portions of the sale are given directly
to the artist. This is coupled with our sponsorship of a charity a season, in
which we donate two dollars from every sale to that specific charity. This
months charity is Kristi House (KristiHouse.org) which is a place where sexually
abused children in Miami can get therapy.

Collaborations are big right now, I’ve just got done reading Jeremyville’s Sessions book (available in his online shop), and that’s taught me a lot about the value of collaboration in art, and I think this is a pretty interesting way of creating a line of tees. And of course, giving $2 dollars from each sale to charity if a really great move.

Their collection of shirts is a little bit bare at the moment, hopefully it will expand in the coming months, but there are some great designs in there, like the one I’ve pointed out in the above picture.

mm_republicant No Star Clothing Gets Political With Two New Tees

I can’t quite decide who’s meant to wear these tees. I can imagine a Republican wearing an ‘ass man’ tee and all of his/her republican thinking it was funny (no matter what their blurb implies), whereas I just can’t imagine a Republican looking at the elephant tee and deciding it was a great way to attack the other side. So, who are these tees for?
