This isn’t really just a tee. To the casual observer, yes, it is a tee, but to me its so much more. I’m usually quite detached from the t-shirt creation process, but with this design I know pretty much everything that I could possibly know about it, I feel like I truly understand what went into this design, and because of that I like it a lot more. Fantastic Bonanza have written a series of blog posts titled ‘The Birth of a T-Shirt‘, a seven part series taking this tee from a thought in their heads to a tee in their store. Its very interesting to hear about the process of how this design came to be, reading about the nuts and bolts as opposed to the lofty aims and mission statements that I usually read.

The colourway is what grabs me first with this design, I have no idea how so many strong colours can be so well balanced, in my head the palette makes no sense, and yet, it just feels right. Fantastical images like this might not necessarily be everyone’s bag, y’know, I can accept that there are people out there who might not actually be interested in buying a t-shirt with some kind of radioactive mutant octopus tree on it. Yeah, it sounds crazy doesn’t it?

Let’s talk quality. I know that the FB boys had quite a bit of trouble getting their printers to match up to their needs, but I’m glad to see that those problems appear to be long gone. The colours are bright and vibrant, which really lends to the nature of the design, and I really like the way that the items in the ground aren’t actually printed (you can see it better in the close-ups), I call this ‘negative printing’, which probably isn’t a real term, but I do think it’s a good way of adding an extra bit of texture to the design. Continental Clothing are the suppliers of the stock tee, a brand that I’m seeing used more and more and offer an impressive level of feel and quality.

This tee is just one of four new designs from FB that represent a new direction compared to their previous releases, be sure to check them out as well.
