Threadless: Bestees news

Threadless just dropped some knowledge on us about their upcoming awards:

Woohoo! I think we’re all ready for a much-anticipated update on the annual Threadless Awards aka The Bestees, huh?

The 27 categories will be announced in all of their glory on Monday, December 31!

As mentioned in the previous newspost, we’ll be awarding $100,000 in cash and it breaks down as follows: Five $10,000 prizes. Seven $5,000 prizes. Fifteen $1,000 prizes. We’re also going to be awarding ten extra “honorary” Bestees! All of the winners will be receiving the incredible Bestee The Elephant trophy!

scratchanitch Scratch An Itch by Artful Dodger @ Karmaloop

This isn’t the kind of tee that I would expect to see when I think about Artful Dodger, that’s probably just me incorrectly lumping them in with other streetwear labels, but this tee really has something about it, a lovely piece of illustrative work. And yes, that it probably the first time that anyone has described something by Artful Dodger as ‘lovely’. And its good to see the print being carried over the shoulder to the back of the tee in a natural fashion too.

pro-3-5 The Contraption by Ten Bills

I got really excited when I took a look at Ten Bills latest newsletter and it announced that they were bringing us “the FIRST EVER Ten Bills Full Zipped Hood.” I was expecting something along the lines of Anticon’s popular mask hoodie concept, or the redonkulously hyped ‘Dead Serious‘ by LRG. But in reality its ‘just’ a zip-up hoodie. Admittedly, its a very fine hoodie, but I couldn’t help but feel a little bit disappointed that it wasn’t what I was hoping for.

But let’s take nothing away from it, this is an excellent hoodie. I really like the touch of printing the Tenbills name and logo on the inside of the hood, which is something I almost always enjoy on a hoodie because it shows that the designs were really thinking of the design as a whole rather than just porting a t-shirt design onto a hooded garment. There’s metallic in on the black version as well, which helps to kick this up a couple of notches in my book.

Monsieur T.: The second half of their latest season has been released, which means there is now some girls stuff available to buy, head on over to check out the goodness.

Imaginary Foundation: New designs released, and some reprints too, and I think that they might have managed to surpass the high standard that they usually set for themselves with these releases.

Organic Cotton Facts: Check out this cute little video about the use of pesticides in cotton by an illustrator called Chris Haughton.

Waterloo: They’ve released a series of beautifully illustrated called ‘Swimmers’, I don’t think that they are based on anything from music or movies like a lot of their designs, but feel free to educate me!

The Source by Design By Humans

thesourcedbh The Source by Design By Humans

I know this tee has been around for a few weeks, but its just been named as November’s tee of the month, and boy does it deserve it!

Clearly, its the wrap around colours that really stand out in this design. I don’t want to take anything away from the designer, dhectwenty, they’ve done a great job, but for me this design really shows off what Design By Humans can achieve in the manufacturing process. There’s so many beautifully rich colours, and embroidering the hummingbird on top of the thin-striped pattern is really something special.
