Y’know, I’m pretty sick of how being ecologically sound and environmentally conscientious is now just another buzzword for cranking up prices. Sure, put your shopping in an organic cotton tote bag rather than using plastic bags, but doesn’t it seem a bit silly to pay $60 for that bag?I guess that’s what this tee is all about, challenging people to stop being so damned smug about how eco-friendly they are… and, trying to stop people from eating pandas? My French isn’t great, but I’m pretty sure that’s what it means. For the record, I will never stop eating panda until they stop tasting so finger ling ling good!

I don’t know why, but I kinda like clothes that have crowd scenes on them. I also quite like the way that Eothen have done it in the silhouette style, it gives the crowd a kind of homogenous quality, as if all the people are the same, but wearing the crowd scene helps you to stand out from the crowd? I dunno, my detective skills ain’t what they used to be.Costiness=£43.95 Link

HYA goes to Margin, you pick where else

margin HYA goes to Margin, you pick where else

Next weekend I’m going to be making the long trek (well, 3 hours on the train) to London for Margin, a streetwear and directional tailoring trade-show being held in central London (February 10th, 11th & 12th). Hopefully I’ll find out about a load of new and exciting brands, so get ready for an invasion of British brands on the blog over the next month or so.I’m going to be down in the big smoke for three days, and presume that I’ll only be at Margin for one day, so I’m throwing my itinerary open to the HYA masses. I’m making up a list of stores that I have to go to. including checking out Concrete Hermit‘s latest show, Magma‘s Covent Garden Store, the Sunday (Up)Market (note: hangover dependent), the Design Museum, and wherever Yutaka tells me via this excellent website that Virgin seem to have had a hand in.

I guess that makes it look as if I’ve got a pretty busy schedule, but I’d still like a few more tips about great stores that you think I should check out. I’m no stranger to London as my brother lived there for a few years, I know my way around fairly well and I’ve done all the tourist stuff that I want to do, so I’m after interesting off-the-beaten-path type stuff. If you leave a comment or drop me an e-mail and I go there I’ll try and take pics and do some mini-reviews of wherever I’m sent, so if you own a store this could be potentially useful for you too.

So, here’s another of those slightly awkward moments when I tell you how much I like one of the products of my advertisers. I like Black Sea, they’ve got great designs and they care about what they do, so why the devil shouldn’t I mention them every so often?

I really like the grittiness of this design, there just seems to be something immediately confrontational and slightly aggressive about the image of the teeth, especially with the strong contrasts of the washed out colours.

I’ve run some tees and hoodies in the past that were based upon the human anatomy, some were fairly scientific and some were… well… worn by Kanye West. Obviously, this tee is not on the scientific side of things, but the effect still works pretty well even when it looks a lot more like a cartoon than a medical textbook.Costiness=$28 Link

Start Living by Dance Party Massacre

31.01.2008

It feels as if I’ve been meaning to write about Dance Party Massacre since last Halloween. It would have made a lot more sense since the DPM crew seem to be pretty obsessed with making tees that are all about the horror, whilst trying not to horrify you. But, I guess that since their front [...]
