full_lolita_img_51 Leah McSweeney gets the SpearTalks treatment

I might have mentioned Married to the M.O.B (Most Official Bitches) in the past, I can’t remember, but I’m sure I’ve at least intended to, because they put out some really impressive pieces, and are a pretty big deal when it comes to the oft neglected world of womens streetwear. Leah McSweeney, the founder of MOB, had an interview posted on JoshSpear.com a few weeks ago and it is a pretty entertaining read, packed full of language that sailors would approve of. It really speaks to me about the power of personalities behind brands, with Johnny of Johnny Cupcakes being the other guy that immediately springs to mind when this issue comes up, along with Nigo at A Bathing Ape, and Pharrell Williams (and Nigo, again) at BBC/Ice Cream on the higher-end of things. The cult of personality can have a huge effect when it comes to clothing brands, if people like the designer, then they’re going to be a lot more inclined to buy something from that person, whereas if you’re kind of a dick, don’t expect many sales from Andy, or much love from the media.SpearTalks: Leah McSweeney - Married to the M.O.B

Gamer Hoody by Split Reason

Gamer Hoody by Split Reason

There’s a lot of apparel out there for gamers, but most of it doesn’t cut the mustard for me, usually they’re built upon solid concepts, but they can be somewhat lacking in the design department. Fortunately, Split Reason don’t suffer from that particular problem. I guess that purists would probably have a bit of a whine about the Pacman and the ghost being too big to fit into the maze, but I’m sure that was just done for reasons of practicality.

I know that some people think that $25 is a lot for a shirt, I don’t because I’m British and our pound laughs at your puny dollar. But I think that even the stingiest Shirt.Woot forum poster couldn’t be annoyed at paying $25 for this tee since 100% of sales is going to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation as part of The Quiet Life’s Good Cause t-shirt design competition. I’ll let them explain what exactly that is:

This design is the winner of our online “DESIGN A T-SHIRT FOR A GOOD CAUSE CONTEST” and is the first t-shirt design in our new GOOD CAUSE project. The idea behind GOOD CAUSE is to help raise funds and awareness for The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The cost of these shirts, the screen printing cost, and all other costs were donated to us by our vendors so that 100% of the proceeds from the sales of this design could go directly to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. To find out more about the Cystic Firbrosis Foundation please visit cff.org

It’s a… nice graphic, not exaclty anything spectacular, but I like it because of the simplicity and use of space, in fact, I feel as if it needs this kind of simplicity for the graphic to work, and of course I like the way that the arm goes all the way to the side of the body.

Now this, this looks pretty badass. Kinda looks like leather (actually ‘coated cotton’), has a rock ‘n roll side-zip, and a big flared collar that gives it a bit of a hard-boiled private detective vibe. Tying the straps at the bottom into a bow do bring back a sense of femininity to the occasion though!

CH have dropped a couple of new designs on us, and hot-damn are they fantastic. The level of detail on the white tee by Supermundane pretty much demands that you click through and look at the close-up pictures, and Kate Moross‘ ‘Block City‘ has a quite beautiful restrained simplicity about it, and is rocking that large rectangular print that is so de rigeur. I was actually given a sneak peak of Kate’s design when I visited Concrete Hermit’s gallery in February, there’s not much more story there, I just thought it was cool that I walked into a gallery and someone knew who “Andy from Hide Your Arms” was. Both of these tees are strictly limited to 100 pieces each, and I can see them being pretty popular so stake your claim early if you want one.

As is usual with CHs release schedule, the tees are being released to go with the exhibition that is currently going on at the gallery (Tri Hard Err: Kate Moross, Super Mundane & Chris Knight, 7th-30th March), the launch night for which was apparently a big success. If you’re ‘darn sarf’ head on down and check it out, the gallery isn’t a long walk from Liverpool Street station if you have the ability to read a map (unlike me!), but if you can’t make it or just prefer the staying inside, check out their Flickr pool for a few pics.

Paris Hilton wearing a barbie tee

I know that a lot of people find their way to HYA by searching for what celebrities wear, even though celebrity-based posts account for less than 1% of all the posts written, so I’m sure that quite a lot of people will be interested in Spoiled Brat. SB is a site that sources clothing that celebrities have been spotted wearing, and lets you buy them, simple as that. You can even search through the clothing by celebrity; lets say you’re a fan of Lindsay Lohan’s style, you can just click on her page and a selection of items she’s been seen wearing pops up. For some of the celebrities the selection is rather lacking, just one item for Avril Lavigne and Scarlett Johansson, but then for someone like Paris Hilton there’s three pages of items. It’s not just for women either, men can get in on the action too, admit it dudes, you want to look like David Beckham. Since its a British site there is obviously a skew towards British celebrities, so you Americans might be a bit confused as to who some of the people are, and the prices are definitely British too (=high).

Spoiled Brat (and yes, this was meant to be a ‘quick’ post)
