A blog about hoodies & t-shirts

Woodstock

Come on guys, lets dip our toes in the morally ambiguous water of me writing about my advertisers! The problem with writing about my advertisers is that I like what they do, so I’m not being a shill, but it does look kind of odd, I must admit.
Creem Milk Bottle by Robert Crumb

Waterloo, have returned to what I feel are their roots, tees about music and movies that were released before I was born. But as well know, being alive when it happened doesn’t mean you can’t care about it. A man walked on the moon (the freakin’ moon) twenty five years before I was born, but I still know it was important, then again, I was a history student, so I should understand the importance of the past. The three tees celebrate the Woodstock festival (by using its poster image), music magazine Creem (using Robert Crumb’s iconic milk bottle image), and John Lennon & Yoko Ono (JL and I have the same birthday, fun fact!). I think my favourite of the three is the Woodstock one, just for the simplicity and it not being a truly in-your-face reference to the festival, although I guess that the Creem one achieves that obliqueness too.

All three are available for $22.95 on presale, which lasts until March 31st, when the price will be raised by 10%.

Threaded Hoody by Electronic Poet

I can’t find this on sale anywhere, but it was too cool to let pass by just because it lacked the convenience of a ‘buy’ button. Nice to see someone doing something different, isn’t it?

Coffee Lovers by FFee Clothing

Coffee Lovers by FFee Clothing

I’ve never been one of those ‘wake up, drink coffee’ kinds of people. Maybe that’s why I’m always so tired? Or maybe that’s because I haven’t been to bed before 1AM for a few years. I’ve been getting into jasmine and green tea thanks to my Asian adventures, so maybe one day I will join the ranks of the perma-buzzed.

Even if I don’t have a coffee addiction I can still appreciate this tee. I really like the concept, I’m just not so sure about how they’ve mixed the two illustration styles, the way that the heart looks fairly realistic whereas the coffee pot looks like a sign in an airport.

Just a month (and a week) after the event actually occurred, I’m finally treating you to some reports on brands that I found at Margin. As most of the vendors at Margin didn’t want photos being taken of their goods (and a few at The Park were pretty rude over the whole photo situation), and I can understand why, the clothes world can be pretty cut throat, I won’t be using any personally taken photos of the brands I met, but I think that I was able to get a much better insight into what all the brands were about, so there should be a bit more authority to these posts than my regular ‘hey, that looks cool’ offerings.

Terratag
were the first brand I chatted too, so I thought it would be appropriate that I profiled them first. It’s hardly surprising that Terratag made a big impression on me, they love robots, perhaps even more than I do (they’re putting together a book with more than 200 robot t-shirts in it), and the way that their designs seamlessly mix British and Japanese pop culture really pushes my buttons (in a good way). They employ lots of strong images, often inspired by the extremely popular Gundam series, which helps to explain why Japan is one of their biggest sources of international orders. They also have no fear in using metallic inks, something that I’m happy to see. But to make it seem as if Terratag are robot obsesses is pretty unfair, their designs run a fairly wide gamut of subject matter, they like to dabble in graffiti style and vivid, neon colourways (some of which actually glow under UV light!) that are bound to get a lot of attention.

Overall, a very impressive line, who had a friendly guy working their booth that didn’t appear to mind answering my annoying newbie-journo questions.
