I think we all know that I’m a lover of puns, I’ll use them whenever I can, no matter how bad they are and how much they make my friends groan, I guess you could say I’m a pun addict (almost as much as alliteration), but you also might have noticed that I rarely write about clothing that has a pun-based design. They usually make me groan, and if they do make me laugh I feel a bit guilty about it because I’ve always been of the opinion that puns are just a cheap laugh when it comes to tees, but I guess that’s just snobbery, puns can be funny, people like them, so why should I just neglect such a large section of the tee-world?

The Vintage Vantage team have come up with a great vintage-style image here. It really has the feel of an illustration that you’d find in an old book from the 70s that tried to teach you the proper techniques to use in a workout… except its some dudes from the underworld that are trying to ‘max the envelope’ and sculpt their guns.

Vintage Vantage know what they’re doing when it comes to quality, you’ll struggle to find anyone else that comes close to them for trying to reproduce an authentic vintage-style t-shirt. The tees are soft and pleasingly stretchy if you need them to be, with a fade on the print that has more of a vintage-look than most distressed prints that you see, although I guess that might be because the image itself has a vintage illustration style to it. I found the tee to be a little bit long for my tastes, but since it is pretty well fitted and stretchy it wasn’t billowing around, so I didn’t find it too much of an issue. From my experience of the last batch of VV tees I received, they stand up well to repeated washes, although if you get oil on them whilst eating fried chicken then you might struggle to get it out, but admittedly that’s not exactly a regular tee test!

Argos by Brooklyn Industries

Argos Jacket by Brooklyn Industries

I thought we’d kick the week off with something simple that would be good at showing off a t-shirt design with a graphic on it. The way that the stripes run across the body and the sleeves, and the contrast hood lining and drawstring is pretty cool. A 100% nylon garment probably won’t be too nice when summer comes around though…

T-Sketch: The light up tee

T-Sketch

I’m pretty tempted to file this on under ‘lame’, but its a fairly interesting concept and so probably deserves a quick mention.

From what I can tell, you draw on that little section of the tee, and can then light up your message using an attached battery pack. I can’t really think of a decent use for this beyond novelty. If it could be possible to have a much larger ‘canvas’ which looked more naturally like part of the tee (rather than having a frame around it) then I think this could be a lot of fun, possibly even useful to artists who wanted to prototype designs. Imagine if you could plug in a memory card and it would scroll through several different designs automatically. Obviously, that’s a bit ahead of our time, but maybe when I’m a grey-haired, old t-blogger they’ll be commonplace.

Ive just had a thought for a DIY version of this, just glue an Etch-A-Sketch to a tee and carry a torch around. Much cheaper, and you’ll be able to make countless nipple-twiddling jokes!

The Biker’s Jacket by Freshjive @ Karmaloop

Freshjive have been impressing me more and more recently, although I guess it might just be the case that I’ve just been taking more notice of them since picking up one of their beanies.

I’m not entirely sure whether this is an asymmetric zip, but it appears to be, and I like that, it just gives this jacket a little bit of extra interest and makes it stand out from the competition, and the unusual way that the over-sized lapel on the left (right for the wearer) seems to come from underneath the zip is a pretty cool idea too.
