mailgooglecom Dont Panic, its Balls to Bullfighting with this competition

(I thought you’d rather see that nice image from Don’t Panic rather than a bull being killed in the name of sport)I’ve never actually watched a bullfight, but I have visited many arenas where the events are held (I really liked this one). In the south of France and Spain, Roman arenas that have stood the tests of time have been converted from man/man combat to man/beast combat, not much of a change I guess, and in some places you still sit on the same pieces of stone that Romans would have. I don’t think I could ever bring myself to watch a bullfight at one of these arenas, even the blood-coloured sand that can sometimes be spotted on the arena floor makes me feel slightly uneasy.

Luckily, t-shirts are here to save the day again. Don’t Panic (who’re usually more accustomed to printing posters), in conjunction with the League Against Cruel Sports, are running a design competition to find a great t-shirt design for their ‘Balls to Bullfighting’ design. There is no prize for this competition other than having your name and skills associated with what I deem to be a good cause, and also raising money for the cause (all the profits from the tee go to the League Against Cruel Sports), which would probably be prize enough for most of you.

The competition is open from now until July 15th, after which time the top 20 designs will be put on the Don’t Panic site and then judged by a panel.

Check out the current entries and get a more detailed design brief and explanation here.

june08email jpg Resist Today Summer Sale & Design Competition

If the title and graphic weren’t enough, I’m going to tell you as well, Resist Today (Iron-On Resistance to those of us that are old skool) are holding a summer sale in which t-shirts are $15 and wallets are $29. I can’t remember how much their tees usually are, but I think they were probably $20+ so this does represent a pretty decent deal. They’re also running a bit of a design competition, where you remix their artwork (they’re giving you really high quality files to work with, one of them is 50MB), and if they like it a lot then it’ll be printed up and they’ll split the profits 50/50.

I can’t remember writing about a t-shirt that has a technical illustrative style for quite a long time, so it was about time I posted one, and to post one that ‘guarantees fresh rhymes’ only makes the deal all the sweeter, although I guess that if you’re American the price is about as sweet as lemon juice being squeezed into your eye whilst chowing down on coffee grounds.

ssf3002 new singer 350 New Singer by Super Superficial

I’m always curious about Japanese writing on clothing, curious because we all know it can look pretty cool, but also pretty scared, scared because I cannot read kanji (right? its been a while since I even looked at my ‘learn japanese’ book) and wouldn’t want to wear something where the text might be something crazy like ‘Super Homosexual‘ and I’d have no idea. Even though Super Superficial say that the text reads “Spring chanson show by new singers” I get the feeling that it might say “this guy has no idea what this design says”.

Obviously, its a pretty simple design, but I do like the baby blue/white/black colourway.

photo10 Fuzzy Ink (the mustache invasion continues!)

I feel kinda sorry for Fuzzy Ink, every time someone mentions them, they also have to mention Fantastic Bonanza’s Fancy Mustachio design, and of course, Mustache & Friends. Some people might be thinking that they’re jumping on some kind of mustache based band wagon, but let’s think about this, take a look at their site, you don’t wake up one day and go “mustache’s are popular at the moment for some reason,” whip up a site and some t-shirt designs, it takes time, quite a lot of time judging by the polished job they’re done on the site.

The designs are surprisingly original, I never thought I was going to see another original ‘Say Anything’ parody until I saw John Cusack holding a mighty mustache aloft, so clearly the Fuzzy Ink crew are willing to put ‘taches pretty much anywhere that they see fit.

One really cool idea that they’ve had is to give people the chance to get an 11% discount their order by answering a trivia question correctly. I don’t know what the questions are, but it might be a good idea to bone up on famous people who have mustaches.
