A blog about hoodies & t-shirts

‘New’ basically means that Linty Fresh announced these tees almost 2 weeks ago and I haven’t managed to get a post out about them, so whilst one of these tees is called ‘F is for Fresh’, I’m afraid that if these tees were strawberries they would have perished many days ago. Luckily, they aren’t strawberries, so they still look damn good.

The blue tee, ‘F is for Fresh‘, is… crazy, I have no idea what’s going on, and I think that’s kind of the aim, read Eric’s (Mr. Linty Fresh) description of the tee and it’ll start to make sense:

It seems that lately my most effective method for producing designs has been unpredictable and unplanned, and this tee is a good example.

It started with the letter “f”. I took it, vectored it, sliced it up, tugged at the corners and bent the curves, and eventually got to noticing that I could spot faces in the negative space it formed. So I went with it. (Why not?) Soon there were a small myriad of mutated f’s combining to create different characters at every angle. Naturally, a whale, a choppy sea, and gentleman from the turn of the century wheedled their way in, too.

It’s kind of the digital, grown-up version of what most kids do when they look at clouds and try to spot things. It’s cool to know I haven’t lost touch with that sort of thing.

The green tee, Eye Scream, started out life as a collaboration between LF and J3concepts that was meant to be a tiled pattern hoodie (see a mockup of it here), but when it turned out that would be hella expensive the design was simplified and turned into a t-shirt. It is possible that the hoodie will see production though, so I’ll be keeping my eye on that.

Wolfrudel Weiss by Marthuba

Look at all those foxes!

A tip ‘o the hat to Notcot once again for finding the tee version of this hoodie (though I have also seen it featured on this excellent shirtspotting post), but I figured that since HYA is meant to be a sleeved clothing blog I’d mention the long sleeved version, even if you don’t often find yourself wearing them all that much during these sunny summer months. The tee version is pretty much the same, except the background colour is white and the pack of foxes (I think wolfsrudel means ‘wolf’ but they look more like foxes to me) remain a dark grey, but to me is makes more sense to have a dark base colour because then the print blends in a bit, which adds to the traditional sneakiness of the foxes, although I doubt many animals can maintain their sneakiness when they smell a kill. It’s nice to see Marthuba making use of the funnel collar as well. I guess that me posting an item from a Swiss company is a good way for me to prove that I’m not at all bitter about England not being in Euro 2008… not bitter at all…

deathshirtd Two new design, two new colours and some exclusive pictures from Akumu Ink roseshirtc Two new design, two new colours and some exclusive pictures from Akumu Ink

In my previous looks at Akumu Ink I’ve mentioned more than once that they’re pretty dark (in the literal and figurative senses), not that that’s a bad thing, but having designs that are always printed onto a black tee are going to pigeon-hole you a bit. I guess that Summer must have arrived in Montreal (here’s some bad pictures I took when I was there 6 years ago), because they’ve seen the light(er colours) and are now offering some of their designs on Army (olive green) for the guys and raspberry for the girls. In addition to adding two new colours to their palette they’ve also added two new designs to their inventory. Death’s Embrace (shown in raspberry) is a rather Nightmare Before Christmas style design in which a skeleton is shooting itself.in the head. The skull on the character is actually handpainted, whilst the rest of the body is screenprinted, and AI sent over some exclusive for HYA (and Kat) that I’ve put at the bottom of the post. The Black Rose (shown in Army), has a really cool print placement that wraps the thorny stem of the rose around the side of the tee.One point that I raised in my sample review was that AI put a pretty large print of their logo on the lower back of each tee, one of the joys of individually screen printing each t-shirt is that if you don’t want that logo being printed there, you don’t have to have it printed there, you just need to let them know and they’ll sort that out for you.

One last bit of AI news, they’re going to be at ‘Northern Ink Xposure‘ at the Toronto Hilton, June 13th-15th. I don’t really know much about tattoos, but if you do, and you’re in Toronto, then I imagine you’d want to swing by this event.

neweio-copy EIO Clothing: Summer is finally here

Excess is Ok again, because its starting to feel a lot like summer in the UK, and that means that EIO are comfortable freeing the beast that is their summer range. I’m happy to report that they have gone big with the majority of their designs, and also rectangular, which, as I’ve been telling you for months, is so hot right now. Gee, I really am gracious when I get things right, aren’t I?The price won’t be all that attractive to Americans at around £30 a tee, and I guess that us Brits might find them a bit pricey too since we can still taken advantage of the £:$ exchange rate (even if it has fallen a little recently). Although, even at £30 they aren’t bad value, my sample tee is still going strong after seven months even with such a detailed design, and we just have to accept the fact that things in Britain generally tend to cost more.EIO Clothing
