Threadless Loves… Travel

loveslogo Threadless Loves... Travel

[I'm busy as hell, please excuse the recent rash of blurb-based posts]
This one’s probably the most open-ended contest that Threadless has ever run (apart from the regular contest… obviously), because its theme is just ‘Travel’. The winner gets sent to Iceland which is really cool, even if that country is probably about to go bankrupt.

Community-centric tee shirt company Threadless.com is proposing its design community to describe their taste for adventure in its latest “Threadless Loves Travel” challenge. Whether a tropical getaway, a trip to space, a road trip across the country, or even a walk to the kitchen, designers are asked to bring their stories of continent-hopping and deepest travel desires to life.

The fun doesn’t stop there. Sponsors for the Threadless Loves Travel challenge have made it possible for the creator of the chosen design to actually fulfill his or her dreams of travel. Icelandair, action sports accessories company Dakine, IES Abroad (Institute for the International Education of Students), and even the band Calexico, are each making it possible for the best design to take to the skies in style. The creator of the winning design will receive a bounty of traveling goodies including two round-trip tickets to Iceland on Icelandair, a $1k credit to a travel site of his or her choosing, courtesy of IES, a Dakine Split Roller 90 Travel Bag, and a personalized song, written by Calexico, inspired by the winning design.

“Threadless Loves” challenges give designers an opportunity to flex their skills and design to a particular challenge. Challenges are sponsored and supported by companies relevant to the idea. Previous “Loves” partners include Hot Chip, Moby, MTV’s Human Giant, and the Lomographic Society International.

As always, designers will also receive a $500 Threadless gift certificate and $2,000 in cash!

Deadline for entries is October 22, 2008. For more info on the design challenge and all its partners, hit the links below:

I remember when I went snowboarding one time (I’ve only been one time) that I got pretty cold pretty quickly, which was probably because I was wearing a coat more suited for walking around the Lakeland fells rather than flinging myself down the Alps, so maybe I should look at these Dryride coats next time I’m thinking about falling down in the snow. What’s Dryride you may ask?

DRYRIDE is Burton’s new fabrication technology used in our Outerwear, Gloves, Fleece, Softshell and First Layer. It represents a strict set of criteria that all material must meet to be included in our line. Through a combination of cutting edge textiles and technologies, world class R&D, and a little Burton magic, we’ve built the most comprehensive sheltering system ever. Materials carrying the DRYRIDE name have been designed, developed and tested relentlessly to ensure you stay drier, more comfortable, and on the hill longer.

They’re pretty reasonably priced with none of them costing more than $140, which is a lot less than a lot of the coats I see in Ambleside (a village of about 3,000 people, and about 15 mountaineering stores). The collection is available now at Burton’s flagship store in NYC, but I’d imagine that it will be available at other locations soon.

Design is love…that’s the motto. 180ronin is a team of designers whom like to think outside the box. Regardless the project or task at hand, 180ronin creates and brings unorthodox designs to the masses that demand to send a message or crave attention. From ninjas, robots to sexy pin-ups those are just the few subjects that invigorate 180ronin’s imagination to generate interesting designs for your wearing and viewing pleasure. By not following the normal traditions of everyone and just doing what they love, 180ronin will travel from client to client not to serve but to execute whatever message he/she desires to display for the public eye. Design is love and love is what 180ronin juxtaposes into their work.

I’ve just finished watching Transformers on Blu Ray (a present from my brother), so this post timing is actually pretty apt!

I have no idea why I like this tee so much, but I think it’s pretty beautiful.

Costiness=$xx (I’ve just noticed that it’s sold out, sorry) Don’t buy it at Etsy [Rumplo Link]

Okay, I’m going to try again with Hoodie People (the people who sells hoodies), hopefully this time I’ll get the price right!

I love, love, love the brass clips closures that go over zip on this coat, they really add something to the overall look of this coat, I don’t know why, but I feel like the brass makes the coat seem as if would keep me warmer than if they weren’t there, enough though I know that makes no sense at all. The braided leather hood drawstring is a nice touch too.

Costiness=$143 (although when I bring it up in FireFox it tells me $72.14) Buy it at Hoodie People
