Deckpeck, like Cafepress, but cool

by Andy on November 17, 2008

The guys behind Popdeck, the skateboard design competition, opened up Deckpeck a while ago. Deckpeck allowed people to sell their own board designs, and quite a few recognisable artists signed up and uploaded some great looking decks to their shops. A few days ago they expanded their product range, but its doesn’t include the usual gubbins that you’d expect from a print-on-demand company, there’s snowboards, longboards, skate wheels, t-shirts (of course), journals and Vans slip-on shoes. I think its really cool that Popdeck are making it easy for people to make custom versions of unusual items when I’d assume that in the past people’s only options would have probably been either very expensive or very DIY.

Looks young but promising. I’m a bit concerned about legitimacy though since a lot of links are dead and when you click on the terms of agreement nothing displays. If it becomes a bit more popular, I’ll definitely check it out. Good post, thanks!

Popdeck has been around for a while, so its fair to say its legit, but I think there’s a very small team working on it, so maybe they’ve just forgotten to tie off a few loose ends.

I just tried it out in all major browsers and could not get the site to work. I was excited about checking it out. :(

Hi Nate, I just checked it out in Firefox 3 and it came straight up, maybe they were down for maintenance?

Andy, it wasn’t that the site didn’t come up. I wasn’t able to navigate the site correctly. For instance, clicking on the Create main navigation link just refreshes the current page, and goes nowhere.

Ahhh, I see, I hope you can understand my confusion. I think I read someone saying something similar over on Emptees, so I think that this beta truly is a beta.
