November 2008

Curiously, I haven’t seen this mentioned anywhere else, no even the Linty Fresh blog (*update, it just came up in my feedreader), I just happened upon it whilst checking out my contacts on Flickr, so I may well have scored myself something of an unintentional scoop.

As the image says, enter the code “FALLISFRESH” and you’ll get 20% off your order. Maybe I’ll finally take this as an opportunity to pick up one of Eric’s belts.

In addition to the already fine service and quality that the EIO crew provide on a regular basis (don’t forget that you can get 15% off by using HYAs exclusive coupon code that can be found on their ad on the lower right of this page), during this festive season they’re going to be gift wrapping each and every order, so that all you have to do is slip it under the Christmas tree. Or, if you’re a selfish, you could just enjoy the fun of opening a present before December 25th.

As always, prices include worldwide shipping. Please note that the new hoodies are only available in women’s sizes. Screengrabs of the rest of the new designs can be seen in the gallery.

DIY Guitar Hero by Ruby Red at RedBubble

by Andy on November 26, 2008

This is pretty clever, its all the component parts of a Les Paul laid out on a tee. I’ve got an order from RedBubble that should be making its way to me fairly soon, so I’ll be able to give you a full report on the quality to be expected from them.

Brit Biker by Harajuku Lovers at Hoodie People

by Andy on November 26, 2008

Ever want to look a bit like a biker without having to actually look like a biker? Well then, this is the perfect hoodie for you!

I’ve been on a bit of an asymmetric kick recently haven’t I?

When it was my birthday last month Scribtee very kindly send me over a coupon to get one of their tees for free. I know that doesn’t seem like much of a difference for me, I get sent free tees pretty much every week, but its pretty rare that I get to choose them, in fact, I usually tell tee labels to pick their favourite design and send me that when they ask me to pick one. For some reason that makes me feel like I can do a more impartial review, and it helps me to get into the head of the company as well.

Since it was a birthday present I refuse to actually to a ‘proper’ review of this tee, but I will tell you that the quality is excellent, it arrived quickly, and aliadotony is one hell of a designer.

It’s a good thing that I like Wotto‘s work, because otherwise him winning every design competition under the sun would be pretty annoying.

Its taken them way too long, but the new Ten Bills site (which I like a lot more than the previous versions) finally allows us to truly see the tees with previews big enough to do the their designs justice.

The new tee is pretty cool too, riffing on the now familiar subject of making your chest look like an AV nerds wet dream. I’ve seen quite a few tees like this, but I think that the hand-drawn look adds a fun little twist on the theme.

You can get 10% off your order from now until the end of the month (which is Sunday) by using the coupon code SQUASH.

Terrratag, they’ll give women the vote next!

by Andy on November 25, 2008

Just 6 short years after the brand was founded, Terratag have released a series of tees to compliment the curves of the female form (did that sound creepy? It feels like it sounds creepy.). From what I can tell, there aren’t any fresh Japanese-inspired designs amongst this bunch, but its nice that they’ve doubled the amount of people that can wear their tees now. See all the designs on sale in the gallery.

New tees at Wrongwroks

by Andy on November 25, 2008

You know what surprised me about Hong Kong? Charlie Brown is huge over there, to the point at which I simply had to check it out and go in one of the Charlie Brown coffee shops and try some of the cheesecake (and good grief it was tasty). The place was totally surreal, everything was CB branded and styled, it felt like I was sat in a cartoon.

I guess that the fascination with Charlie Brown might be why Wrongwroks were inspired to create this simple but instantly recognisable design. There’s also a couple of other designs/colourways in the gallery.

I was just taking a look around Glass Boutique‘s seasonal sale (which is pretty impressive in its own right), when I took a fancy to these two tees by Won Hundred. I can’t really see the polaroid aspect of the polaroid tee, but it looks pretty cool.

A unicorn!

by Andy on November 25, 2008

The tee isn’t exactly my kind of thing, but I thought that the promo photo was so awesome that I just had to post this, I don’t get nearly enough opportunities to put unicorns on HYA, so I need to grasp at them when I get the chance.

Friday night saw the return of Graham Lineham’s excellent ‘The IT Crowd‘ for it’s third season. Over the past few seasons I think I may well have enjoyed all the geeky in-jokes, references and props more than the storylines and acting (though I still enjoy that too), and it seems that this year is no exception as the IT department has had a makeover that seems to involve even more stickers than the back of my laptop.

Following on with a grand tradition, I Sky+’d the episode (though forgot to record the HD version) so that I could go back and chronicle the tees Roy wore in S3E1. The first one was really easy, I’d actually already spotted it in the advert. It’s a bit of a classic in the indie tee world, “Musical Elitism Venn Diagram Shirt (Music I Used to Like)” by Diesel Sweeties, who I noticed also have an ‘I [screw] robots’ sticker lurking in the background too.

The second was a bit harder, a black and orange tee where you never really got a decent look at the design. I was about you give up hope when I noticed that there was a shot taken from behind Roy’s head that revealed a J!NX logo on the neck of the tee, which actually made it very easy to find the tee. It’s called “The Cake is a Lie,” which is a statement that left me slightly perplexed, so I Googled it as they suggested, and now I get it. What? You thought I was going to explain it to you?

So, not exactly a huge amount of tee-sleuthing to be done this week, a nice gentle starter I guess, let’s see what comes up next week in episode 2. There’s not too much else in the gallery, just a few shots from different angles, but I figure that since I’ve taken the pictures I might as well upload them.

Split Reason, the great store for gamers and geeks, has teamed up with Hide Your Arms to give one lucky reader a $25 gift certificate. As usual, it is spectacularly, almost insultingly easy to get yourself in with a chance of winning the prize.

All you have to do is leave a comment on this post telling me who your favourite band is or a song you like, or maybe a band that you think I might like, basically, tell me what rocks!

I’m going to keep the competition open until midnight (GMT) this Friday, November 28th, and the winner will be announced on Monday. For those of you that are wondering the band in the picture are my good friends Decorate in Flames (MySpace link), who do rock.

Wowzers, Threadless’ holiday sale has kicked off, which is hardly a surprise, but the fact that they’re selling tees for $5, and that they aren’t the crappy designs, certainly is a bit of a surprise. Other tees can grabbed at the $10, and $15 mark. I dunno when it will end, but these things tend to last a couple of weeks, right>

Bar Trekkin’ by Go Ape Shirts [Review]

by Andy on November 24, 2008

Much like my last review, you can’t actually buy this one either (sorry, again), but this time it isn’t because the tee being limited edition, it’s because Go Ape Shirts got a friendly letter from CBS, who own the copyright to Star Trek, asking them to stop selling the tee. To me, this is quite clearly a parody, and there are lots of shirts out there for sale that are far more blatantly ripping the intellectual property of Star Trek, but Goliath tends to beat David in these situations, which is why I ended up receiving one of these tees. Even if you can’t buy this tee, it does serve as a good reminder that Go Ape consistently release some fantastic designs and have the print quality to do them justice.

I got an e-mail from Nestor over at Tolky Monkys about some new hoodies that they’ve got on sale, and I just expected to find their regular designs has been transferred over to a hoodie. That would have been perfectly fine, its what most people do, but TM decided to put a little bit more effort in and have come up with this absolutely awesome collection of hoodies based on three new characters, with a re-editing of an older one called Hikiko Pacman.

Perhaps I’m going a little bit overboard with the hyerbole, but I am seriously impressed with this collection of hoodies, hell, I might even buy one myself.

Check out all four hoodies here and weigh in at under €50 a piece, and click through to the gallery for a boatload of pictures.

I still think that its quite odd to buy a tee which is seasonal, which is ridiculous considering that I can go for a year without wearing some of my tees. However, I really like this design from La Fraise, and it isn’t so seasonal that you can only wear it in December.

If you are in the mood for some Christmas designs which don’t suck, they’ve got some great ones in their store. There’s a couple of close ups of this tee in the gallery.

That image is probably too small for you to read, but I’m damned if I’m going to start making promo ads for other people.

Goodie Two Sleeves have taken ‘Black Friday’ and decided to turn it into ‘Black Week’, which is almost certainly a good thing, and they’re offering a colossal 50% off by using the coupon code BACKINBLACK between November 28th and December 5th. I’m sure that you’ll forget about that by then so I’m going to mention this again when it actually kicks off, but I thought I’d better give you forewarning in case you made a purchase this week and then got annoyed because you missed out on the savings.

Also, any purchases made during the black week promo will enter you into a competition to win 7 t-shirts, which is a nice little bonus.
