video game t-shirts

Rockhart Clothing are a startup aiming to sell t-shirts about video games that aren’t totally lame. Whilst the video game tee world isn’t all bad, a lot of them seem to cater to stereotypical gamers that live in their parent’s basements and live vicariously through their WoW characters, so I can understand why Rockhart would want to make some cooler shirts for gamers. Judging from the mockups and what’s going in the goodie bag I think they’re well on their way to achieving that aim, but they do have one little issue, they need funding on Kickstarter so they can make it happen.

As I write this they’re more than a third of the way to their goal with 17 days to go so it’s looking fairly good that they’ll make it, so if you are tempted to pledge some money it’s pretty likely you’ll get a tee out of it.

The 100% Natural t-shirt winning t-shirt design from this year’s T-ShirtForums t-shirt design contest is now for sale through Storenvy. All proceeds will be donated to a local food bank charity

The Contest

Each year, T-ShirtForums.com holds a t-shirt design contest (extravaganza) that asks designers to come up with a design based on a certain theme. The designs don’t have the t-shirtforums.com logo on them, as they are supposed to appeal to a universal audience.

The Voting

Once all the designs are in, they are voted on ANONYMOUSLY. This anonymous voting proces avoids vote campaigning or votes based on the popularity of the designer. Each design must stand on its own merits :)

The Design Theme

Since I’m a (literally) big fan of great food, this year’s design theme was “FOOD”

The WINNER

The “100% Natural” design by forum member Whyball (of 1400 Designs) devoured the competition through 2 rounds of voting.

Here’s what the winner “Whyball” had to say about his design:

“The idea came while thinking at all those “natural” products, and seeing how they look in those days, with all the genetic modifications on animals and on all those vegetables in unusual colors, are far from what they where in the past, so maybe in the future we can customize our food at home starting mixing CMYK.”

The T-Shirt & Printing Process
This t-shirt was professionally screen printed as a 9 color oversized design on super comfortable ringpun natural American Apparel brand t-shirts using a combination of water based inks for the background details and plastisol inks for the bright CMYK colors to bring out the highlights in the design. The printer also added a gel ink the the ink splatters to give the t-shirt a cool “wet” look that really stands out.

The Charity

All proceeds from the sale of this t-shirt design will be donated to River City Food Bank in Sacramento, California. That means the WHOLE $15 of every $15 t-shirt sale will be donated to the charity. For 40 years, River City Food Bank has been sharing its philosophy of “No one should be hungry” with the Sacramento community. They are open every weekday providing nutritionally balanced meals, compassion and hope to those in need. T-ShirtForums.com is proud to partner with RCFB to do our part in giving back to our community.

Type – Eat Fast Die Young [Review]

by Abigail on November 30, 2011

I received a tshirt last week from Euan Gallacher of Type, a Scottish brand run by a talented graphic designer. It came with stickers and flyers (all beautifully designed) and in its own vacuum pack bag (like meat) which I was very impressed with, I have seen all manner of packaging but this was simple yet effective and assured me that the tshirt got to me in good condition.

The tshirt is Gildan Heavy Cotton, I wear a small and much prefer the fit of a small men’s shirt to a girl’s fitted tshirt, the design is striking, along with the rest of the designs on the Type shop (which can be seen here)

I am a sucker for brands that offer something a bit different like art, club nights or vinyl toys thrown into the mix and Type do stock a print but I think the brand could lean a lot more on the art aspect, as the designs are striking and would all make great prints!

Massive new Winter Line from Seventh.Ink

by Andy on November 30, 2011

seventh.ink winter collection So what have we got here:

Card wallets, wrist cuffs, button packs, Christmas greeting cards, six t-shirts, a henley, and two hoodies.

That, it’s fair to say, is a pretty huge release from Seventh.Ink for the Winter. A lot of the items were produced in limited amounts, so if there’s anything you want be sure to place an order sooner rather than later.

50% of Threadless with FUZZY2011

by DeeHYA on November 29, 2011

So if I’m honest I don’t think the tees this jolly Monday were New Tees, upon looking at the top/most recent designs I saw that there were lost of comments like ‘Thank you for the reprint’ ‘Whoo hoo this has been reprinted etc etc however you can get 50% of a vast number of Threadless tees (or40% off hoodies), check website for exclusions. They have kinda funked up the website too recently so it’s deffo worth a look. Don’t forget your code FUZZY2011

Although it’s quite bland and very much cream I find the design on Nailed It by Jaco Haasbroek very sweet! Quite simple but it made me crack a smile, I’m particularly enjoying the expression on their faces!

I love how intricate some designs are, I like to imagine myself staring a people’s belly’s at a Threadless party like it’s some kind of gallery.  The design and mixture of patterns, and the placement of the design makes Almost Home by David Fleck a very interesting tee indeed.

Just for a splash of colour, and of course my favourite colour, purple, Spin by Lucas de Alcantara, shows a spinning top carousel cross over! I think this design looks even better because the design is off centre. Would have been far to obvious to have it dead centre.

Have to admit I done a bit of a naughty and treated myself to the following tee with my Streetteam point to console myself after Threadless sold out of the sushi tee I have wanted for ages in double quick time. Next time it will be mine! However I am very much looking forward to Playin’ In The Sprinkler by Jason Bergsieker. You can’t deny that the design has major cute and smiley factor. The purple baby onesie is simply adorable too!

Quite a lot of cream and grey hanging about this week, not to my liking at all. Even though this one is Star Wars based it’s not yanking my chain, although to be fair I prefer the more camp Star Wars tees than the serious ones. Sure Ink Empire by Sebastien Ducourtieux will appeal to many a geek though.

Lastly because it’s both seasonal and cute ‘It’s a Polar Bear Blinking in a Blizzard by Skylar and Brock Hogan’ would be an awesome Christmas gift or winter tee for yourself. This has either sold out really really quickly or has only been reprinted for guys, either way it’s a sweet design worth an oggle.

Threadless are also pimping out a whole host of other gift items, waterbottles, bags, laptop cases, I also like the very small number of scarves they have. So just because you don’t know someone’s size, doesn’t mean you can’t buy Threadless! Happy window shopping :)

76 Garments is happy to add a 4th shirt to the lineup: Old Glory, available for pre-order now.

Old Glory re-casts the banner of patriotism with violent energy, honoring the blood, sweat, and tears that have watered American soil. This is the flag of a rugged country—full of rips and stains, but always as persistent as her people.

Andy: Thanks for the submission!

ugmonk charity drive

I’m lucky enough that I live in a world where I get to choose what I eat most days, sure, I’m not eating lobster stuffed with tacos for breakfast, but I have never been in a situation where I’ve had to go hungry, and I probably take that for granted, so it’s crazy for me to have to think about children that might not get to eat all day. It’s a horrible situation that I all too often turn a blind eye to, so I’m glad there are people out there like Jeff at Ugmonk trying to help and raise awareness.

Jeff has temaed up with Rice Bowls for his 4th annual Ugmonk Charity drive, something he always does at this time of year, often instead of engaging in the usual clamour for sales that you find with people offering large discounts on their goods. For every item (not every order, every item) that is sold through to the end of the year Ugmonk will make sure that a hungry child will receive a full day of meals.

Personally, I’m a little uneasy about the Christian aspect of the charity, but at the end of the day they are changing lives so I should accept that the good outweighs any moral qualms I have, and it wouldn’t stop me from making a purchase at Ugmonk over the holiday season.

Daily Tees & News for November 29th

by Andy on November 29, 2011

night of the living dead t-shirt

Very cool Night of the Living Dead shirt from TeeFury today.

Here’s another Firefly design I don’t understand at Qwertee, and I’m all the more confused because it is a Jurassic Park mashup too.

Song Bird makes another appearance at Tilteed.

Good use of negative space from Stupidhurts.us today.

Nice take on the old proverb from Shirt.Woot.

I guess that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles must be popular again since there is a definite rise in the amount of TMNT shirts I’ve been seeing recently, and I’m not exactly hunting them out. From $10 at RIPT.

I previously featured this shirt a couple of weeks ago when it was on RedBubble, but now it has made it’s way over to The Yetee for the next few days.

I haven’t seen Machete but this parody shirt from OtherTees still makes me laugh.

How depressed does Snuffaluffagus look? 24tee.

As a big Community fan I am very pleased to see this ‘Troy & Abed in the morning’ shirt up at TeeRaiders.

The infinite Swiss army knife makes a return to Loviu.

Nice to see a Zoidberg/Futurama shirt on Shirt Punch today.

I think I’d probably like this latest DBH shirt if it didn’t have the sea turtle on it, but it’s still wearable nevertheless.

Don’t worry, it’s cool to be a nerd now! $11 down from $20 at BustedTees today.

The Cool Hunting gift guide is now live.

I Am The Trend have an excellent post introducing Grave Takers, a new brand from Kyle Crawford of Electric Zombie fame.

RUReppin found some useful articles for t-shirt designers.

Threadless 50% off coupon code!

by Andy on November 29, 2011

threadless 50% off coupon code
Threadless may have just had their big Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales, but they aren’t done with savings for the year yet!

If you use the code FUZZY2011 at the checkout you’ll receive a massive 50% off your order at Threadless. I’ve been a Threadless fan for a long time and I’m pretty certain that they’ve never released a coupon that big before, so now would be a good time to take advantage of those savings and pick up some cheap tees (or hoodies, or other things) and clear a few names off your Christmas list. After clearing those names off your list you can rightly feel smug for being far more organised than me and rest assured that you can enjoy the run up to Christmas without stressing about getting people presents.

The coupon code will expire on December 6th, so you’ve got about a week to take advantage of those savings with the code FUZZY2011. If you aren’t sure what to pick up then check out all the posts from HYAs resident Threadless nerd, Dee, and she’ll point you in the direction of some great choices.

Update: I forgot to mention that you can also get free shipping (in the US) if you spend over $60.

soparanos satriales t-shirt

I can’t decide if it’s sign that I’m becoming uncool or not, but I’m really starting to enjoy certain aspects of the 80sTees catalogue, mostly their ‘in-universe’ designs that celebrate more obscure elements of pop culture. I haven’t even seen that much of The Sopranos (I know, I know), but I really like this design and the idea that a fan of the show could see someone on the street wearing the shirt, it would be like being in a secret club, because surely you’d have to be a pretty hardcore fan to know that Satriale’s was in the show.

The Pizza Shirt – Dumb or Awesome?

by Andy on November 28, 2011

pizza shirt

I don’t know what to make of a shirt that looks like it’s made of pizza toppings. I definitely wouldn’t wear it, and that makes me think that it’s probably a slice (oh yes I did just say that!) of ironic anti-fashion, but on the other they seem to be fairly serious about this project, soliciting suggestions for the next shirt/flavour to be printed.

detroit roller derby hoodie

Established in 1978, the Motor City Rollers were the first in a series of underground derby teams that would meet in and around the city to practice and perform their craft. The derby meets were always kept secret and private, those who were there only had stories and memories to pass along after the night ended (as no photos were allowed). Rumor has it that the last of the derby matches were held in late 1985.

In 2005, derby would return to the city of Detroit thanks to the Detroit Derby Girls. As part of the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association, the Derby Girls encompass five teams and usually hold matches at Cobo Hall or the Masonic Temple

pokemon t-shirt

I stopped updating the Black Friday t-shirt deal list once it hit 109 items and I got a migraine, but please remember that not all those deals were just for Black Friday, a lot of them carry on until today and a few beyond that too.

Not often that you’ll see a Pokemon x Katamari Damacy shirt, but TeeFury have given us a great one today.

Qwertee have a shirt about The Hulk today.

The dance of the blue footed boobie makes a return at Tilteed.

Nowhere Bad have dropped a shirt about National Lampoons Christmas Vacation, of course.

I don’t know if there’s any significance to XYZ on the shirt, but I like the idea of the zip in the Y. Stupidhurts.us.

This rather magical tee at Shirt.Woot is also available as a long-sleeve tee.

Swiss Army Wolverine, huh, didn’t see that one coming, RIPT.

Very clever shirt from The Yetee, I wouldn’t call myself a massive fans of the Aliens series, but this concept works really well.

A fairly oblique reference to Futurama from TeeMinus24, but it’s always good to see a Futurama t-shirt.

Very interesting Bowser shirt from 24tee today, good style to it.

TeeRaiders are responsible for our Doctor Who shirt today.

GraphicLab have dropped their latest shirt and it’s a delightful mashup or Scott Pilgrim and Back To The Future.

Very nice musical shirt at Loviu today.

Can anyone enlighten me as to what the Japanese (right?) text says on this Back To The Future tee at Shirt Punch?

Tshirt Contest are parodying Game of Thrones with this bacon flavoured t-shirt.

No new shirt from DBH today, but every tee is $15 for Cyber Monday, I think that’s a pretty good deal!

Kissmetrics take a look at whether having your phone number om your website will increase sales. Hint, it usually does.

Honour Over Glory have released their Autumn/Winter Range, so obviously they had to make a promo video featuring hot girls in the woods.

BustedTees Cyber Monday offering is already down to 20% off.

166 Days have knocked theer shirts down to £9.99 for the week.

Social Fabrik are offering 15% off all their shirts today with the coupon code CYBERMONDAY.

Don’t forget the Threadless Sale! $10 tees!

by DeeHYA on November 26, 2011

Bet you’d love 7 clones of yourself in your favourite Threadless tees lazing around in your lounge. The sale my friends is the perfect opportunity to get your hands on some quality tees at half price.

Firstly delighted this tee has been reprinted, I missed it last time and I was gutted so it’s well and truly in my basket! Sadly not in my size but I can switch one size up for this awesome tee. I love sushi, I like it on clothes, jewellery and in my belly so Sushi by Benjamin Ang is well and truly on my NEED list.

Next because it’s appropriate for the season and some places in the UK have been experiencing snow, Watch The Snow Fall by Cory Remjeske would be a fab tee to have and wear frequently over winter, or a perfect $10 stocking filler. Who wouldn’t love a Threadless tee for Christmas?

Yay another tee I own, I love when I’ve chose a tee that ends up getting reprinting! Retold with Unicorns by Branko Ricov and Jonah Block is an amazing combination of Unicorns and Star Wars, two of my favourite things in fiction, and this is one of my all time fave Threadless tees.

Next tee I am blogging because I really like camera tees, I don’t know whether it’s because I’m in a relationship with a photographer or what? The intrigue me as objects and I like to wear that interest on my chest/belly, I could do this with Nature Photography by Alex Solis, gentle but effective.

I also like sea based t-shirts and the Threadless sea tees always have something original about them, Electric Jellyfish by Adam Wilson features a jellyfish made up of electric plugs, the bright blue works really well against the drab grey.

Lastly a tee that gets printed time and time again, I’ve blogged it many times, not so much because I like it but the Threadless shoppers obviously do! Harry Potter fans need to get an rock House Brawl by Alex Solis and Alice X Zhang a welcome addition to most geek’s t-shirt collections! Also available in boat neck tee for girls, I have to say I find these particularly flattering on my larger chest.
