pac man t-shirt

I must have my dates mixed up because I was sure that Go Ape existed before HYA, but since we celebrated 6 years of the site in January and Go Ape is just mentioning it now I guess that’s not the case.

This latest shirt, showing how the ghosts became ghosts in Pac Man, is typically Go Ape, and was designed by the rather well known t-shirt Aled Lewis.

Threadless New Today / Back Today Round Up

by DeeHYA on May 31, 2012

Bit of a Threadless catch up tonight, full time work is making me every such a snoozy bunny. However here is the round up of the New Today / Back Today tees so far this week.

On Monday we had I Can See Through You by Andrea Orlic is a simple but effective tee depicting ribs, I think this tee looks much better on the Asphalt tee than it would of been in black. Simply too obvious.

Not sure whether the back today tee from Monday is as relevant as it was when it was first printed. Occupy the Fridge by Vaughn Pinpin, I do love the design and face with food is always a hit on the old Threadless.

My fave of the tees this week is Pin Cushion Pin-Up by Andy Gonsalves appeals to the retired burlesque artist in me, have to admit, I wish that his had been super bright candy colours but the design is beautiful!

Ok so the next reprinted tee isn’t going to win any awards for originality or prettieness, but it’s not awful there are loads of poorer designs on Threadless. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot by Esther Aarts kind of looks like a uniform for someone who works in an off licence.

Next design is just ADORABLENESS! Lovely warm creme tee covered in ickle kitties. I can think of plenty of girly friends and crazy cat ladies who would love Bonsai Cats by Marina Tkach.

Reprinted tee from yesterday is a colour explosion on the eyes, the black alongside the vivid oranges and blues, Surface to Air by Niel Quisaba would be a lovely space / abstract addition to any Threadless collection.

Finally we’re on to today. Today’s addition to Threadless, is pretty cool it has a very retro poster feel to it which has been exaggerated further by doing a brown print on cream. Demolition Derby by Sebastian Arango Guerrero is a tee that is worth a close up look to really see all of the details.

Lastly for this blog, I am sure you are very sick of my ramblings by now. Back Today we have Ambition Killed The Cat by Neil Gregory. First win is that it’s about cats, second win is that it’s purple. Threadless could do with more purple in my opinion (although this tee is Asphalt for guys).

Our shirts are sure to tickle your funny bone… if you’re clever enough to get the joke, that is. But we go deeper than that. With backgrounds in fine art as well as contemporary design, our graphic artists draw inspiration from pop culture, vintage rock shirts, street art, album cover design, and contemporary typography trends.

Be sure to enter the coupon codeTD-OFF” on our website to receive a $10 discount.

Andy: Can’t say I’m seeing a lot of the fine art background of their artists in these shirts, and you don’t need to be particularly clever to get the play on words of the brand name, but different strokes for different folks. Would be useful to see the actual shirts being worn, as ever, but it looks like they’re quite new so I can forgive them for not having a proper photoshoot yet.

triangle motif

Triangle Motif got in touch recently to say hello and let me know about their fledgling brand. Usually when people e-mail me they ask for advice, and whilst I’m not here to be a free consultant for brands I do usually find myself repeating the same things to people when they send in a submission, mainly that they need to get better images, explain what makes them special, and don’t pretend to have reinvented the wheel. However, with these guys I can’t see anything that they’re doing wrong, they’ve got some beautiful lookbook images to go with their regular studio product shots, they’re reasonably priced at $25 and they’ve got a nice clean website. That tells me that all they need to do is get their name out there more and they’ll surely gain fans and hopefully propel themselves on to many more collections to come.

Unrestricted Swag Clothing Company sets out to redefine the meaning of Swag.

Fed up with mass production, founders of Unrestricted Swag decide to create a custom run, limited edition company, set at affordable prices, with a twist. They make custom limited edition sets, custom packaging and numbering. For the initial release, G3 SERIES(military inspired), includes cool gear such as a working gas mask, buttons, a bag, a dog tag, and official numbered authenticity certificate with each set. After all of the sets are sold out, that is it, nothing is reproduced. The first edition is 25 sets each. Editions come in as little as 12 and no more than 100. The brand focuses on individuality and personal style aka swag.

Andy: When I saw the word ‘swag’ I presumed that I was going to hate this brand, and the designs are not for me as I’m sure you’d imagine, but there’s not really a lot going wrong here.

Usually if I see a teaser video for a brand and it’s two minutes long it’s pretty unlikely that I’m going to be watching it through to the end (two minutes? That’s a lifetime!), but this lookbook video teasing for Socially Exceptional‘s impending shirt release on June 11th is awfully stylish and well put together so I was sat enraptured until the screen went black at the end. Bloody nice shirts, too.

As usual, I will try and remember to let you know when the shirts have been released, but as usual I expect I’ll probably forget.

Big Summer Release from OMUNKY

by Andy on May 30, 2012

omunky summer t-shirt release

Top work from Rick with his Summer release, incorporating three new animal designs, an old design on a new colourway (the elephant), and the popular giraffe design is now available in children’s sizes. In fact, most of the designs at OMUNKY are available for kids and toddlers in one way or another, and I think that the style fits really well with what kids like and what adults would want to buy for their kids so hopefully that will be a popular side of the business for Rick. The t-shirts are all available now and will cost you $20 a pop.

aaron andrews apparel

I’m really digging the style to the photography (and video) on this release from Aaron Andrews Apparel. I hadn’t heard of him/them before, so it’s nice to be introduced to them by way of some pictures that show off the designs to their full potential. The tees and the tank top come in at $24.99 each and are available now.

vaughn de heart t-shirt

Quite a compact collection from Vaughn de Heart for the season, consisting of just four pieces, but it’s clear that RoyLyn is trying to cover all the bases with the shirts all being in different colours and styles and also a tank top for those days when it’s just too hot to keep your mighty guns confined to a t-shirt. Personal favourite for me is the heather grey ‘Courageux’ shirt. Shirt prices are $23.95-24.95, the tank top is $22.95 and they’re all available now.

game of thrones beer t-shirt

Nice and subtle Game of Thrones shirt at TeeFury, I’m sure non-watchers would probably think it was for a craft brewery they’ve never heard of.

Shirt.Woot have a Game of Thrones design as well.

Pretty sure this Zelda design has been somewhere other than RIPT before, not that it really matters.

Pretty impressive stuff from Anything Goes, looks like they’ve put together some really nice quality products, and it’s cool to see them branching out to the bamboo iPhone case as well.
