HYA is going to Japan, back in 3 weeks

by Andy on March 20, 2014

I’m heading off to Japan tomorrow morning for a three week trip around the country, so there will be no new posts on HYA until the middle of April, unless some of the HYA writers get a flash of inspiration and post something.

Otherwise, keep an eye on the HYA Facebook and Instragram accounts where I will surely be posting many pictures of my lunch and random Japanese fashion trends.

STRENGTH IN NUMBERS

by Andy on March 20, 2014

Regardless New York is a product of its environments and the blurred line between uptown opulence and downtown irreverence. Regardless inhabits a place where inspiration from David Hockney and Basquiat, Mike Tyson, 90’s basketball, Rodney Mullen, Glenn Danzig, Patagonia, Indian Motorcycles, Wu-tang, vintage military and workwear can all coexist with an undiscerned reason. That unspoken cultural cohesion is what makes Regardless authentic.

Andy: Lovely photography, thanks a lot for the submission.

Electric Family clothing for EDM fans

by Andy on March 20, 2014

Electric Family is a lifestyle brand catering towards the electronic dance music scene. We felt that there was a serious need for a brand that allowed fans to support the scene on a daily basis. A majority of the apparel made for EDM can only worn to festivals and is not wearable in everyday life. Our clean designs can be worn by any streetwear fan.

KickStarter Book

by Andy on March 19, 2014

The VigilanTees book will showcase all the amazing art seen on a daily basis across the limited shirt sites. There is so much incredible work being produced and shared that it makes sense to view this output in a different medium.

I am looking to put together a KickStarter project to get this book made. To make this work, however, I need you – and I need your opinions.

Please take two minutes to fill in my survey https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/BYKV769

Thanks chaps

Andy: Interesting idea, I look forward to seeing how this one progresses.

It’s March, so prepare for everyone and their sports-illiterate grandma to be feverishly filling out brackets around you. It’s crazy. Nay: MADNESS!

For those who simply don’t get it, Switzerfan™ (For the Sports-Neutral) recently launched a small but snazzy line of Spring Sanity™ t-shirts. The designs are a tranquil yet subtly-tenacious alternative to the lemming-like fervor that sweeps our lovely nation every year around this time.

Check ‘em out at http://www.springsanity.com, and get sane!

Andy: Nice concept, thanks for the submission!

New Tees from 360º Clothing

by Andy on March 17, 2014

The bodyboard onfire with 360º clothing.

Andy: You might buy one of these on the beach after a long day in the surf, but to me sat in my office on a damp day in England these designs just lack the quality needed for me to get excited about them.

Bob’s Burgers at Teefury today

by Andy on March 15, 2014

Bob’s Burgers isn’t on UK TV much, sometimes it’s tucked away on C4 late at night but otherwise it has to be found by other means. Still, the bits I have seen have been really fun so I thought it was worth mentioning this design at TeeFury today.

The San Francisco-based men’s lifestyle brand FAZE Apparel is known for being FEARLESS when it comes to its unselfish use of color and fabric combinations. The main theme for the brand’s Spring/Summer release is an obvious one – color, and lots of it! FAZE Apparel’s “Color is Power” collection, as it is called, takes a path that is familiar for the brand but one that is different from some of today’s fashion trends. The current landscape of fashion has been a darker one and this new collection is here to add color…plan and simple.

When it comes to detail no stone has been left unturned with the “Color is Power” collection. Some of the highlights include the Fearless Society tee which sports a colorful lightning bolt pattern and vibrant red heather tanktop that the “W” design graces, Check out some of these lookbook images to get a glimpse of the collection yourself. You are able to get your hands on Delivery 1 of the “Color is Power” collection at the FAZE flagship store located at 3236 21st Street, San Fran, CA and online at www.fazeapparel.com. Stay FAZE’d!

Kicking off 2014 with a bang, Still Proud brings us their first drop of the year. Aptly titled “Memoirs,” the release is a trip down memory lane for SP featuring reprints of some of their most popular designs throughout the brands 5 year existence. Heavy on a theme of self empowerment & defiance, the release encompasses three graphic t’s (inc two girl prints), a snapback, windbreaker, raglan tee & tank-top. This release is even more limited then their previous ones keeping the quantities (minus the snapback) at 25 pieces and under so be sure to hit their store (http://stillproudclothing.bigcartel.com/) & scoop something up quickly!

I haven’t managed to magically learn the history of hip hop since last week, so all I can appreciate at My Main Man Pat is the typework, though I wouldn’t walk around with a ‘bitch’ written on my shirt, though I presume that it’s from a lyric.

Second Glass Clothing from Indonesia

by Andy on March 13, 2014

Indie Clothing Line from Surabaya, Indonesia
Started in 20011
SIMPLE but ELEGANT

Andy: The first thing that springs to mind when seeing these tees is not ‘elegant’, but that just be a mistranslation so I’ll let it slide.

So you’ve just raised $68,000 on Kickstarter for your innovative framing system, now what?

Well, that was the task that faced Ugmonk, and they (because it can’t just be Jeff anymore, right?) have produced a fascinating blog post detailing what problems they faced with such a successful funding period. Well worth taking a couple of minutes over if you are thinking of funding your next line with Kickstarter.

I was going to be snarky about how there must be loads of people with all these totes (which are often marketed to be an environmentally friendly alternative to disposable shopping bags) but I rarely see people with tote bags…. but that is a pretty nice tote.

I wonder if there was a conversation in the Snorg office about whether it was a smart move to release a t-shirt abut planes in the same week that a plane carrying 239 people disappeared from the skies without a trace. One their Facebook page a commenter did say it wasn’t particularly funny, which received this response:

“Hey this design was something our artist came up with a long time ago…the release timing is just a bad coincidence.”

Here’s the thing, I’m pretty sure no one thought that they saw the news and though, “guys, we can totally make a shirt about this plane story, people are going to LOVE IT.” Maybe just put off the release for a week and replace it with something else, or just offer two new shirts this week, since this probably isn’t going to be a big seller anyway, especially this week when it might make people a bit uneasy. That response makes it seem like they were powerless to do anything about the release, which is just odd, wait a week and no one would think badly of the company, but this just makes them look bad.

On the plus side, the other two shirts don’t suck, so there’s that!

*Update: I just received the regular weekly e-mail from Snorg that shows what new goods that they have this week and the plane tee is not mentioned at all.*
