I don’t think it gets much cuter than that ‘Marilyn Monroecake’ design at Goodjoe this week, it almost made me break out the word ‘adorbs‘ again. Both shirts are $12 each during the pre-order phase this week, then up to $18.

We could all do a bit more for charity, it’s even better when you can do your bit whilst also receiving a massively amazing tee which with not only look great but can be a conversation stimulator and you can convince other folks to grab a tee and support charities too! I would imagine word of mouth is something that works so amazingly well for www.sevenly.org.

Basically this site releases a different tee each week each supporting a different cause, the one I received (pictures above and below) was supporting a charity called ‘Living Water International’ which is dedicated to helping villages in developing countries in developing countries gain access to clean water.

This weeks charity is ‘Clothes4Souls‘ helps recycling be ensuring gently worn clothing is reused and give to people less fortunate.  The types of charities supports are slavery, water, hunger, aid, poverty, medical & disaster.

One thing I love about this site (which I am surprised about) is that most of the designs are all pretty similar just altering the text slightly or the colours slightly but essentially a lot of the designs have a similar format. They are not super brightly coloured and most convey the message in an obvious way without blasting it in the audience’s face.

The fit of the ladies V-neck is by far the nicest V-neck tee I have ever had in my life, it is the most flattering and comfy tee and the V is low enough that it shows off my chest without being so low that you can see my bra! Perfection. Next time I see a charity story on this site strike a chord in my heart I will be happy to purchase another V neck tee from Sevenly!

The website is contemporary, the product images are perfect, you can see how much was donated from each tee that has been released in the past, this website is just utterly fantastic and you should bookmark it, ‘Like them on Facebook, follow them on Twitter but find some time to swing by and see the amazing work that they do and bag yourself a high quality and heart warming tee.

MASScanvas have a knack for teaming up with big names in the entertainment world, and this latest collaboration is now different. They joined forces with Stan Lee to hold a design contest to find 5 great comic book inspired t-shirt designs, from which a portion of all sales will be going to the John Wayne Cancer Institute. Stan picked all the winners himself, and I’d say he picked a good looking bunch of t-shirts.

Just Jared have a story about Zac Efron giving over three hundred items from his wardrobe to the Children’s Resource Center and it made me hate him that little bit less*. The cynic in me could easily think that this is a shameless attempt to gain exposure in the run up to his latest movie being released, but I’m just going to take it at face value and be happy that Zac has helped those a lot less fortunate than he is, and most of us are.

I tried to hunt down the tee that he’s wearing but came up with nothing since it’s not a clear shot, sorry celebrity tee hunters.

The 100% Natural t-shirt winning t-shirt design from this year’s T-ShirtForums t-shirt design contest is now for sale through Storenvy. All proceeds will be donated to a local food bank charity

The Contest

Each year, T-ShirtForums.com holds a t-shirt design contest (extravaganza) that asks designers to come up with a design based on a certain theme. The designs don’t have the t-shirtforums.com logo on them, as they are supposed to appeal to a universal audience.

The Voting

Once all the designs are in, they are voted on ANONYMOUSLY. This anonymous voting proces avoids vote campaigning or votes based on the popularity of the designer. Each design must stand on its own merits

The Design Theme

Since I’m a (literally) big fan of great food, this year’s design theme was “FOOD”

The WINNER

The “100% Natural” design by forum member Whyball (of 1400 Designs) devoured the competition through 2 rounds of voting.

Here’s what the winner “Whyball” had to say about his design:

“The idea came while thinking at all those “natural” products, and seeing how they look in those days, with all the genetic modifications on animals and on all those vegetables in unusual colors,are far from what they where in the past, so maybe in the future we can customize our food at home starting mixing CMYK.”

The T-Shirt & Printing Process
This t-shirt was professionally screen printed as a 9 color oversized design on super comfortable ringpun natural American Apparel brand t-shirts using a combination of water based inks for the background details and plastisol inks for the bright CMYK colors to bring out the highlights in the design. The printer also added a gel ink the the ink splatters to give the t-shirt a cool “wet” look that really stands out.

The Charity

All proceeds from the sale of this t-shirt design will be donated to River City Food Bank in Sacramento, California. That means the WHOLE $15 of every $15 t-shirt sale will be donated to the charity. For 40 years, River City Food Bank has been sharing its philosophy of “No one should be hungry” with the Sacramento community. They are open every weekday providing nutritionally balanced meals, compassion and hope to those in need. I’m lucky enough that I live in a world where I get to choose what I eat most days, sure, I’m not eating lobster stuffed with tacos for breakfast, but I have never been in a situation where I’ve had to go hungry, and I probably take that for granted, so it’s crazy for me to have to think about children that might not get to eat all day. It’s a horrible situation that I all too often turn a blind eye to, so I’m glad there are people out there like Jeff at Ugmonk trying to help and raise awareness.

Jeff has temaed up with Rice Bowls for his 4th annual Ugmonk Charity drive, something he always does at this time of year, often instead of engaging in the usual clamour for sales that you find with people offering large discounts on their goods. For every item (not every order, every item) that is sold through to the end of the year Ugmonk will make sure that a hungry child will receive a full day of meals.

Personally, I’m a little uneasy about the Christian aspect of the charity, but at the end of the day they are changing lives so I should accept that the good outweighs any moral qualms I have, and it wouldn’t stop me from making a purchase at Ugmonk over the holiday season.

What’s the buzz about ‘Movember’ then? You can’t avoid it, it’s all over my twitter and FB and it’s all for a good cause. If you’re not aware of what it’s about, it’s a challenge for men to start off November clean shaven and then commit to growing a moustache through out the month. They can raise money and awareness for men’s health issues such as prostate cancer. You can find out more about it on Movember.com.

I thought it would be quite cool to post a blog about some tees which support this cause and show you the efforts of some of my friends!

More T Vicar is a website I used frequently with my kids were babies because they stock No Added Sugar stuff. I do love this Mo tee, the slogan make me chortle and with all profits going to Prostate Cancer during November you’re doing a good deed and you get a cool item!

I’m going to dedicate this blog to three of my male buddies who are wearing their mo with pride. In fact one of them is dying their tache a mental colour in order to raise even more pennies for Movember. I got an e-mail from John at Abuv almost a month ago, and it’s taken me until now to get around to writing about them. That may provide some comfort to those of you that have e-mailed me an I haven’t got back to you yet. I say yet because I do intend to reply to everyone, there’s just only so many hours in the day, you know?

Abuv aren’t just a company that makes t-shirts (4 designs in at the moment, one of them is not pictured), webbing belts and bracelets, they’re setting themselves apart by offering 10% of all sales (not just 10% of profits) to charity, so if you make a purchase with them then you know precisely how much of your order will be going to charity. I’m not a bracelet wearer, but John from Abuv makes the bracelets by hand himself, and I think it’s cool that there is that personal connection to the items that they’re selling. I know that there’s always a connection when I talk about tee brands because they have the designs made or design them themselves and then get a printer company to produce finish product (it’s a smaller and smaller percentage of brands printing their own shirts these days), but it feels a little different with the idea of handmade bracelets.

The range available in their store isn’t massive at the moment, but everyone has to grow from something and I look forward to see what they come up with in the future.
