DBD have reversed the concept of their logo for these tees, which usually have the skull as the larger head and the little face on the hat. The cool thing about this is that it is interesting to hardcore fans of the brand since it does represent something different to them, but to casual people approaching the brand for the first time it’s still wearable. Tees are £25 each and the varsity jacket is £50.

When visiting my Dad last year in South Africa I went to the storage room and pulled down some of my dusty storage boxes to rummage and reminisce. Inside the clutter I found two t-shirts, both of which had belonged to my dad. It got me thinking that It would be nice to know of other t-shirts (or other garments) that people have and their history.

Here are a few I have so far.

A Double Scottish Serving

So I might as well start with my first two t-shirts. This first white tee is blady tiny! I stress this as it was something my dad wore and I feel time and tumble driers have shrunk this to a kids size, literally… I think my dad used to wear it as a vest when he went off road scrambling on his massive two wheeled beast. The t-shirt design is a character called Oor Wullie from an old Scottish Comic strip. This lad was one cheeky bugger and so was Oor Wullie (badum tish). This tee is anywhere between 25-30 years old.

The second is  the Scottish 1986 World Cup Football strip. I guess that in itself is relatively historical.

Half Life and T-shirt Cushions

These next  t-shirts are from Ben. The first one is a signed Half Life logo t-shirt that was sent to Ben personally from Gabe Newell, CEO of Valve, the creators of the game Half Life. I find it ironic that this is a ‘Half Life’ logo t-shirt, that is actually about 7 years old. The next set of t-shirts have been reborn as cushions created by Ben’s mother. I’m sure you will agree with me when I say how unusual they are and cool at the same time.

Rob Zombie Tour T-shirt

Dee La Beau (DEEHYA) brings this aged rock t-shirt to the table, a t-shirt that her ex boyfriend bought on the 1995 Rob Zombie tour. Dee now has this t-shirt, a sentimental reminder of the good times and because it’s damn comfortable. Dee rocks tees like no other!

The Trusty Denim Jacket

Trust Leah to trump the rest of us with regards to her jacket being old, very old actually. This Wrangler denim jacket was bought by Leah’s mom as a teenager in 1979. From that day forward it was worn religiously; so religiously in fact that she even wore it to church, much to the ire of her father. This infamous denim jacket took on a double life in later years when her mom met her father to be as they soon shared this jacket between them. Years later at her parents marriage, the confetti had barely settled and her mom was already wearing this jacket. Class! Leah owns it now so who knows where it will be next.

Margin London has been kindly invited to contribute to HideYourArms. We’ll be posting some news about up-and-coming labels that will be exhibiting at Margin in February 2013, which takes place on the 10th & 11th, but firstly we think we should introduce ourselves.

Started back in 2002 as an affordable platform for new designers, Margin is the longest-running independent trade exhibition in London. The show presents designer women’s and men’s tailoring and accessories, as well as streetwear for men and women, to invited store buyers and press.

The humble tee has long been a starting point for numerous labels, and we’ve seen many an exhibitor start off with a t-shirt offering which has grown over the seasons to include a full range of clothing. Supremebeing, Lazy Oaf, Seventyseven, Dephect, YourEyesLie, and many others all started at Margin with tees before growing their stockist base and extending their range to include clothing, bags, jewellery (or jewelry for Americans!), and hats.

Margin has been providing a launchpad for brands to meet with key buyers and press for 10 years to date, and 2012 marked a decade of exhibitions.

To commemorate the occasion, a limited-edition 10 year book was printed for visitors to the show, but it’s also available to download as a PDF or as a super-interactive book for iPad. The iPad version features extensive galleries of previous seasons, as well as videos, and can be downloaded here.

I was actually thinking to myself over the weekend that Glyn from Sturban hasn’t been in touch for a while, and then when I started work on Monday morning I noticed an e-mail from him, spooky!

I know King Apparel and I have one of their jackets that I wear everyday in the cold morning walking my dogs, it performs and I know the Duck Camo RainMac will too and not only that it looks very, very, VERY cool, sorry did I repeat myself there

And yet somehow I’m almost considered a professional writer, madness!

This collection from OLOW seems somehow more highbrow than I’m used to posting, but I’m cool with that since it’s really nice looking stuff and there’s no reason why HYA can’t comb it’s hair and smarten up every once in a while.

Seeing a jacket in a release from a clotihng company makes me sad because I feel like we’ve barely had a Summer here in the UK and people are already turning their attention to Fall/Autumn. Still, it’s a damn good looking jacket at Glamour Kills (and the rest of the collection is pretty nifty too), so head over and check it out.

Motorbikes scare me. The thought of riding one scares me, the thought of hitting one whilst I’m driving scares me, even them being behind me as I’m driving makes me nervous because I know that they are usually waiting for the next opportunity to pass me. I think that part of this stems from a guy overtaking me on his bike and then me finding him trapped under a car on the next bend, so I think I’m quite justified in not seeing the value of moving very fast with minimal protection.

However, some people are a lot more brave/foolhardy than I am, and that’s their choice and things will always be that way, so they might as well look good doing it. The leather jacket you can see above first came into production back in the 1930s and remained as an integral part of Lewis Leathers range until the middle of the 1960s, which is a lifespan that most designs don’t enjoy today. Steve McQueen was a fan of the jacket, picking it up whilst The Great Escape was being filmed, and he wore it in 1963 during the 500 mile Greenhorn Enduro race across the Mohave desert. Lewis have now decided to bring the jacket back into production and have reproduced the original in painstaking detail.

As my opening paragraph suggests, I don’t know much about motorbikes, and the clothing for them remains just as much of a mystery, but I would assume that a jacket like this can be worn both on and off your bike, and whether you’d want to risk wearing a £675 leather jacket whilst riding your bike is a whole other question.

These Supremebeing shirts at Street Casuals are a bit of a departure from the usual HYA fayre of printed graphics, but I quite like the change. There’s lots of strong and bold colourways here that I think would look really good being paired up with a lightly more muted top layer like a darker jakcet or zip up hoodie. Also in this release from Supremebeing is a couple hats and a few sweaters & light jackets but the tees looked the most interesting to me and this post had more than enough pictures in already anyway. If you’re looking to pick up a tee you’ll be spending £30, which does seem like quite a lot to me, but then again I haven’t paid for a t-shirt for a few years now so my perceptions of value are slightly warped.

I’m not nearly cool enough to have heard of Marshall Artist before Street Casuals dropped me an e-mail about them, but I like their style, everything is very clean and wearable. I could natter on for a while but to be honest the SC press release about the goods is far too well put together for me to ignore, so you can find that after the break.

Marshall Artist spring summer 2012 collection is now available at streetcasuals.com. With Marshall Artist’s signature spin on modern British tailoring, this collection is set to be the strongest yet and is packed with some great pieces and nods to it’s British heritage.

The outerwear, always a strong area for Marshall Artist has some great new designs and re-workings of classic styles. The Tailored Golf Blazer is based on a traditional 1930′s golfing blazer and is a must have piece for Spring 2012. The blazer is constructed from a medium wale brush corduroy and features 2 large bellow pockets, a small leather welted ticket pocket, reinforced canvas shoulder details and a slanted chest pocket with button flap.

In addition we also have the classic Nautical jacket, a staple in the Marshall artist collection and this season made in a indigo waxed chambray fabric.This classic vintage sailing jacket has a centre front storm flap concealing a full length zip and features several beautifully finished leather details. The Nautical jacket also features metal cantilever clasps at the chest and is constructed from a summer weight waxed cotton chambray fabric.

The nautical theme continues in the knitwear collection with the sailing cardigan a fully-fashioned shawl collar cardigan made from 100% cotton. This piece features vintage buttons on the centre front placket and a canvas patch pocket and single welt pocket at the lower front, a shawl collar and two contrast stripes on the sleeve.

In the jersey section we feature the classic sweatshirt, aptly named as it is a vintage washed fleece sweater, a Marshall artist classic for spring 2012. This piece is constructed from unbrushed french terry cotton and features a leather welt stash pocket on the chest, leather branding and embroidered eyelets.

In the t-shirt section we highlight the Naval gym t-shirt a classic jersey tee with excellent attention to detail. The t-shirt features contrast cover stitching details under the arms, a concealed woven patch pocket at the inside of the lower front body and a small button placket at the throat.

Finally we have the very timely release of the vintage Sherlock t-shirt, constructed from super soft cotton jersey and features a floral silhouette print of the British icon Sherlock Holmes and finished in a vintage wash for a worn in look.

I like the concept but I’m not too into the style of the artwork in this Pcamn x Mario mashup tee at TeeFury today. It looks more like a comic (and a well illustrated one, let me be clear) than a t-shirt design.
