Bluu Dreams are a contributor on HYA, which means that this post is biased, there’s no way of getting around it, I like Andy the owner and I like his brand, but then again I like a lot of the people that I write about so it’s not really a big issue.

This is Bluu Dreams first release of 2013 and it brings us a baseball-theme mixed with an aquatic twist based on a a couple of fictional teams called the ‘Pelicans’ and Running Divers’. It’s funny, as someone from the UK where baseball isn’t popular at all I’m having a hard time connecting with some of these designs, but then there’s the logo for the Pelicans which has obviously drawn a lot of inspiration from the Phillies logo that I recognise and suddenly I like that design. When you make sports based designs having some kind of familiarity is always going to help. The design work is really solid across the boaes, the Pelicans logo looks like a legit organisation and I’m sure it will fool some people into thinking they’re a minor league team, but the Running Divers design has a bit more attraction to those of us that aren’t too into baseball since it’s a fun illustration that you can immediately understand with no back story. It would be cool to see the Running Divers mascot used in other products, maybe adding some more colour to the design, too.

Price wise things are where you’d expect, $25 for the tee, $40 for a raglan, and $60 for the team jersey since they’re a bit more of a specialised item.

The Art Star Craft Bazaar is one of Philly’s biggest annual ongoing craft markets and this weekend marks the 10th anniversary! Over 100 different artists, crafters, and vendors set up on the Great Plaza at Penn’s Landing for two whole days. Everything from jewelry and t-shirts, to stuffed animals and glassware, prints, paintings, pottery, and more!

This will be my second year participating as a vendor at the Art Star Craft Bazaar and I couldn’t be more excited! As it was my biggest event last year, I decided to center my new releases around the bazaar this year. I will be dropping 5 brand new designs with my Philadelphia inspired t-shirt brand, Wear Liberty. They are all limited edition and will be available for the first time ever starting tomorrow, May 11th at 11am, at the Art Star Craft Bazaar! Artists for this release include Wotto, Yema Yema, againstbound, Sven Palmowski, and local Philadelphian; Hawk Krall.

Joel Wiesner, the co-founder of Create Clothing, sent me an e-mail back in January, I took a quick look at the e-mail on my phone and told myself that I’d give the site a look when I got home and was in work mode. Of course, I completely forgot and have only gotten around to checking them out almost two months later. My bad, they’ve got some really cool stuff.

They had their first birthday back in January, so they’re still new but not that new, and it’s interesting to see how their style has progressed through the year by looking at their store, what I assume to be older stuff at the bottom of the store doesn’t suck, but the newer designs are a lot more impressive and enticing to new customers. Looking forward to seeing more from these guys and hopefully I won’t be such a slacker on the next update.

I’m English and don’t really follow hockey so I have little clue about the Boston Bruins, and only know this is related to the design above because I Googled the name for this post (…journalism!), but that doesn’t stop me from enjoying this as a design, though with the way sports rivalries are I’d imagine that it would be off-putting for fans of other teams. Forever Gold are releasing this as a long-sleeve tee, which is something we don’t see often ’round these parts to celebrate their first year of being in business, it’s heather grey, limited to 50 pieces (never to be printed again), and yours for $25.

LATIN LOVER, a new t-shirt label from Columbia for men & women, with great illustrations & graphics:

I thought I had to post when I saw one of the world’s most famous models wearing a long-sleeve tee that I could go out and buy on the high street, although I think Topshop has a bit better brand image over in the US than in the UK. Also, Kate Upton, any excuse to post Kate Upton.

Margin London has been kindly invited to contribute to HideYourArms. We’ll be posting some news about up-and-coming labels that will be exhibiting at Margin in February 2013, which takes place on the 10th & 11th, but firstly we think we should introduce ourselves.

Started back in 2002 as an affordable platform for new designers, Margin is the longest-running independent trade exhibition in London. The show presents designer women’s and men’s tailoring and accessories, as well as streetwear for men and women, to invited store buyers and press.

The humble tee has long been a starting point for numerous labels, and we’ve seen many an exhibitor start off with a t-shirt offering which has grown over the seasons to include a full range of clothing. Supremebeing, Lazy Oaf, Seventyseven, Dephect, YourEyesLie, and many others all started at Margin with tees before growing their stockist base and extending their range to include clothing, bags, jewellery (or jewelry for Americans!), and hats.

Margin has been providing a launchpad for brands to meet with key buyers and press for 10 years to date, and 2012 marked a decade of exhibitions.

To commemorate the occasion, a limited-edition 10 year book was printed for visitors to the show, but it’s also available to download as a PDF or as a super-interactive book for iPad. The iPad version features extensive galleries of previous seasons, as well as videos, and can be downloaded here.

Andy: I do like the way that Bwazill actually guys his products from the Spreadshirt store so that he can provide a much better product shot of the item than the standard mockup that Spreadshirt provide. I wish that they had a facility so that you could provide your own product image instead of being forced to use their image.

Dark Arts Clothing is an alternative fashion brand featuring dark cartoonish prints. Created by 19 year old Adina Michelle from Seattle, the brand was founded in 2012 and is a start-up company based solely online. The inspiration for the brand came from a constant intake of darker magical realism, which is where the name comes from. Andy: I like that even though these guys are running a Spreadshirt storefront for their printing they’ve at least committed to buying all their designs in one form or another so that they can test the quality and also take some nice lookbook images of the designs which are always going to give you a better look than the standard spreadshirt mockup. It would be nice to see a bit more stuff on the front page of the website though, as it is currently a bit sparse (and the images in the slideshow should all be the same size/orientation, it’s a bit messy to switch from one to the other).
