Pac-Man Faux Ugly Sweater at 80sTees

Pac Man Faux Ugly Sweater 480x810 Pac Man Faux Ugly Sweater at 80sTees
It’s probably a bit early to be getting into the ‘ugly Christmas jumper’ spirit, but this sweatshirt at 80sTees got me wondering where there aren’t more Pac-Man tees out there considering the large effect that the game had on gaming culture moving into the mainstream. I remember my parents being obsessed with it when I was young and they don’t play any games now. I think that this design would look good (and not ironically good) on a black tee.

The Dudes Factory [Margin Reports]

by Mr Four Fingers on March 5, 2013

The Dudes Factory

A couple of years ago whilst visiting a friends house I noticed a cool hand drawn illustration print framed on her wall. It was a curious cartoon-esque drawing by French illustrator McBess. I was supremely happy to find out that clothing brand The Dudes Factory were being showcased at the Margin Trade show as the crux of their designs are created by the talented McBess. The Dudes Factory were at Margin with the support of Boy Parker, an independent t-shirt brand and also part distributer who brought this brand from Berlin to our cloudy shores.

The Dudes Factory are awesome. Yes, I’m trying to stop using that word but in this case the description is perfect. All the designs I saw at Margin were creations of Mcbess, including a printed plate and a beer mug with the words ‘piss’ written on the front but there are other artists that flourish under the umbrella of The Dudes Factory. Here are some of the other great illustrators : Ugo Gattoni, Genius Inc., Dave The Chimp, Network Awesome, Oblast, Fidia and Carolin Loebbert.

By chatting to the different brands at Margin we gleaned information about them in various ways. The levels of professionalism and the essence of their brand was best shown in their lookbook/catalogue. By this I mean the actual design, style and photography. The Dudes Factory simply nailed theirs with fantastic product and location photography. This should be a benchmark for brands to aspire to.

Is it just me or does their model look a bit like Adam Buxton, except with longer hair and and even bigger beard?

Really impressive new collection from OLOW, lots of premium goods here and I love the lookbook. Very impressive, if not particularly wallet friendly.

Exciting times lie ahead for young streetwear brand Less Clothing.

As well as just launching their new website, Less will be making their trade show debut at Margin, the longest-running independent exhibition in London.

Handcrafted in London, Less Clothing produce men’s and women’s streetwear with a sharp attention to detail, from the signature cuffs to the embossed leather labels.

We love the vibe of the label and their lookbook, the sun-drenched images and their association with musicians and DJs give the brand a real “Ibiza” vibe that we’re happy to buy into for some sunshine (especially during such a cold grey winter!).

Renowned amongst key buyers and press as the launchpad for new brands, Margin has been providing an affordable platform for new brands since 2002.

Margin London at HideYourArms

by Margin London on December 17, 2012

Margin London at HideYourArms

Margin London has been kindly invited to contribute to HideYourArms. We’ll be posting some news about up-and-coming labels that will be exhibiting at Margin in February 2013, which takes place on the 10th & 11th, but firstly we think we should introduce ourselves.

Started back in 2002 as an affordable platform for new designers, Margin is the longest-running independent trade exhibition in London. The show presents designer women’s and men’s tailoring and accessories, as well as streetwear for men and women, to invited store buyers and press.

The humble tee has long been a starting point for numerous labels, and we’ve seen many an exhibitor start off with a t-shirt offering which has grown over the seasons to include a full range of clothing. Supremebeing, Lazy Oaf, Seventyseven, Dephect, YourEyesLie, and many others all started at Margin with tees before growing their stockist base and extending their range to include clothing, bags, jewellery (or jewelry for Americans!), and hats.

Margin has been providing a launchpad for brands to meet with key buyers and press for 10 years to date, and 2012 marked a decade of exhibitions.

To commemorate the occasion, a limited-edition 10 year book was printed for visitors to the show, but it’s also available to download as a PDF or as a super-interactive book for iPad. The iPad version features extensive galleries of previous seasons, as well as videos, and can be downloaded here.

Here’s the link to posts where HideYourArms mentions Margin including brand updates from when they last visited (well overdue for a revisit but Andy & the HideYourArms London correspondent are returning in February 2013!).

Margin is an intimate showroom exhibition in a white gallery space in the heart of Central London, and the only tradeshow in the UK where buyers and press can discover new & emerging design talent (most making their debut launch).  When we say “NEW”, we don’t just mean new to Margin, we mean brand-spanking, never-been-seen-before, new!

Since the exhibitions first started back in 2002, Margin can lay claim to providing the successful trade launch-pad for many brands such as Chateau Roux, Your Eyes Lie, Supremebeing, Dephect, Emily & Fin, Miyson, 1 in a 100, Missmilne, Worn By, Ashley Marc Hovelle, Humdrum, Worn Free, Sugarhill, King Apparel, Terratag, Lazy Oaf, Famous Forever, and Ruby Rocks, as well as the UK launching point of overseas brands including Silas, Upper Playground, Tank Theory, Eastpak Apparel, Loreak Mendian, Syndrome, Al & Alicia, Gama-Go, Mimobots, Double Goose, Stereo Sound Agency, Diamond Supply Co, Urban Originals, and Uzi amongst many others.

hideyourarmsintrothumb Margin London at HideYourArmsMargin has welcomed key stores to the exhibitions since first launching in 2002; from online players like ASOS, My-Wardrobe, and Urban Industry; multiples such as Ark, Joy, Beams, and Ships; department stores, such as Selfridges, Harvey Nichols, Liberty, House of Fraser, Psyche, Fenwick, El Corte Ingles, Galleries Lafayette, & Engelhorn Trendhaus; as well as the key independents Margin is renowned for, including Colette, Hip, Sakis, Wood, Royal Cheese, Natterjacks, 290sqm, Coggles, Market, Atoo, My Yard, Donuts, Caliroots, and Get Cutie, to name a few.

Star Wars Ugly Christmas Sweater at 80sTees

by Andy on November 6, 2012

Post image for Star Wars Ugly Christmas Sweater at 80sTees

Well, it’s not really and ugly Christmas sweater, it’s a sweatshirt!

Even the Empire celebrates Christmas. Here’s our Faux Star Wars Ugly Sweater with Darth Vader putting the final touches on the Super Star Destroyer’s Christmas tree. Unlike us normal folks who have to deal with scratchy arms and step ladders to decorate the tree Anakin simply uses the force to drop the Death Star angel in place. I’m sure he made some Storm Troopers place the little Tie Fighters and X-Wing Fighter ornaments. This design was Kevin’s idea. He was crushed once he found out we were labeling it as ugly.

80sTees released loads of new Star Wars items recently, so I’ll probably be posting a few of them since there’s some good ones in there.

It looks like fairly simple stuff, but that’s where the quality lies, there’s nothing here that I wouldn’t want to wear, and that’s the mark of a good release from Editions.

Post image for Young Love Apparel impress with their first collection

untitled 6 5 480x600 Young Love Apparel impress with their first collection

Young Love Apparel are a recently launched brand that describe themselves thusly:

Alternative clothing for girls and boys. Our designs are formed from our
interests in music, photography and literature. Our simple black and white
aesthetic has been influenced by guys like Raymond Pettibon, Daniel Johnston and
Charles Burns among others. We are a independent Manchester based clothing
company.

Here’s another great example of why product shots matter, imagine if these designs from Young Love Apparel were just on a boring mockup, you probably wouldn’t want to buy any of them, right? But with these well taken product shots which have a bit of personality (and attractive models) all of a sudden I want to wear this stuff and think it looks really cool, the photos really bring out the potential of the designs. T-shirts will run you between £18 and £22.50, and a sweatshirt is £28. Definitely looking forward to seeing what these guys come up with, especially since they’re just (two hours) down the road in Manchester.

Post image for King Apparel AW12 arrives at Sturban Clothing

kg1228 lg 480x480 King Apparel AW12 arrives at Sturban Clothing
I was actually thinking to myself over the weekend that Glyn from Sturban hasn’t been in touch for a while, and then when I started work on Monday morning I noticed an e-mail from him, spooky!

He wanted to let us know that King Apparel’s AW12 collection is now in stock at Sturban, and in the process I found that he is a far better writer than I, so instead of me trying to mumble through telling you about the line and end up telling a story about myself in the process, I’ll just copy/paste what he told me:

As winter approaches here in the UK the aut/win clothing ranges start to arrive and one of the first with their split delivery meaning clothing suitable for the UK’s autumn weather is King Apparel.

King Apparel are one of the UKs foremost premium streetwear brands remaining resolute as ever; to develop and grow a clothing brand independently, run by those who live and breath the culture; to create cutting edge design; to deliver impeccable quality and to retain the utmost integrity at every point. Keeping things exclusive with a maximum of 300 pieces or less produced in each garment and a no re-runs or repeats philosophy to retain exclusivity.

kg1231 lg 480x480 King Apparel AW12 arrives at Sturban Clothing
With that King Apparel have covered many bases this season with a pricepoint denim coming in at under £55 the Athelstan is set to sell out instantly. Made with the same care and quality of all King garments the Athelstan is setting a new standard, matt black King buttons on the fly, leather K logo patch on the right rear pocket and tan embroidered triple stitch on the rear pockets, these bad boys have been manufactured to perform and sell.

kg1227 lg 480x480 King Apparel AW12 arrives at Sturban Clothing
kg1235 lg 480x480 King Apparel AW12 arrives at Sturban Clothing
Along with denim King have produced some custom, cut and sew crew neck sweat shirts in classic colour combinations and killer designs, The Prestige with the King lion head logo sells out every season and this year comes in the new exclusive colour Baby Blue. That is supported by what will become classic designs Reign Supreme no fifty shades of grey here just athletic grey with a yellow print and the new East London Kings in Navy with blue print or bad boy black and orange, if you know your culture you will get these designs.

kg1234 lg 480x480 King Apparel AW12 arrives at Sturban Clothing
Enough of the classics I said King had covered all the bases and here’s my key piece and whilst others in the streetwear business are playing safe King drop the Duck Camo Rain Mac, BOOM!!!! I love this piece and will be rocking mine any day. King started from scratch and designed the camo and had the fabric produced before they perfected this jacket. I know King Apparel and I have one of their jackets that I wear everyday in the cold morning walking my dogs, it performs and I know the Duck Camo RainMac will too and not only that it looks very, very, VERY cool, sorry did I repeat myself there icon wink King Apparel AW12 arrives at Sturban Clothing

Of course you can get all these pieces plus more from King Apparel and all your other favourite urban streetwear brands from sturbanclothing.com the only place to shop online since 1999 and still keeping it UK and independent all the way.

And yet somehow I’m almost considered a professional writer, madness!

Post image for The ‘Heart Pocket’ tee from Clee Clothing that doesn’t have a pocket

IMG 6977 480x720 The Heart Pocket tee from Clee Clothing that doesnt have a pocket
IMG 6985 480x720 The Heart Pocket tee from Clee Clothing that doesnt have a pocket
To be honest, I don’t care one jot that this design from Clee Clothing doesn’t actually have a pocket on it since to me the pockets are just there for aesthetics anyway, it’s not like anyone really puts stuff in there, so having a printed outline of a pocket is pretty fun, and the stitched on button helps take the illusion that little bit further.

Costiness=£20 White T-shirt, Grey T-shirt (they will customise the tees to turn them into tank tops as pictured above) / £25 Grey Sweatshirt

sutsu summer twelve collection Very nice release from team Sutsu as usual, mixing eco-concious materials with strong, bold designs. Whilst I’m not a skateboarder I am interested in this couple of new decks they’ve released because they’re made with bamboo rather than the traditional maple deck, which apparently gives 3″ more ‘pop’, is lighter and stronger than maple, and of course is much better for the planet since bamboo is amazing. Another cool thing is that for every full-priced item bought at Sutsu this season the buyer will receive a native British tree for them to plant and grow, as part of their efforts to bring native species back to Britain after many were cut down in the 19th century for ship-building and rarely were they replaced.

Sleepy Dan : Customized Hood Sweatie

by Sleepy Dan on January 29, 2012

Sleepy Dan hood sweaties released in December, I had to release one cut n sew project for the first year so you can be sure there will be some more customized designs for the upcoming years! I can not emphasize enough, process is the most important part of any project. The rugby style hoodie is a design just recently hitting trend so I had to make some comfortable enough to bear the Sleepy Dan brand! In my day job as an apparel designer, I have learned how to work with embroidery shops to create apparel patterns, but sometimes several of the finishing steps have to be done on your own to save on cost. That’s how I was able to make these hoodies so affordable.
6677209413 a4dca28ef5 Sleepy Dan : Customized Hood Sweatie
Coming from the manufacturer, I had to make some custom modifications past adding the logo embroidery appliques and the new custom neck labels for outerwear… This hoodie has several exposed cover stitch seams, so you can easily see it’s custom made, but the excess seam fabric had to be trimmed up a little more to be finished.
6677209033 228e7d7af9 Sleepy Dan : Customized Hood Sweatie
After finishing, the logo embroidery appliques are hand stitched to the garment, then the size labels are machine stitched into the neck seam. What makes this hoodie so special is the herringbone cotton twill neck seam, rugby placket, and hood seam edge. The time invested to this project is longer than a t-shirt design, but the fan and blogger reviews of the hood sweatie are amazing for the first cut n sew design. Research and development are a key role in the process of a successful project, so don’t overlook your process at any stage! Hope you got one before they sold out…
