Robots are cool. I think that much we can all agree on, right? I mean, there’s been a fixation on robots for about the past 70 years, with sci-fi films and utopian visions of the future imagining that we’d all be living in space pods, served by robots wearing French maid outfits with pneumatic silver boobs. For some reason, robots just capture the imagination. They seem to connect with us as an image of our potential: eventually we will be able to master creating humanity (of sorts) and will render it in metal.

Which is why I like these two shirts by Design By Humans quite so much. They popped up in my inbox as part of a regular email from the site, and I was drawn to them immediately. You’ve got two separate designs here, I think. Halftone Robot by Old30Bastard is very much a hipster Transformer. It takes up the whole tee, and its shapes are angular and true to life. I particularly like that the robot’s head looks like its a repurposed boombox. At $15, you’d be criminal not to get this.

Then there’s the slightly more expensive ($20) Violin Bot. It’s cute, it’s quirky and it’s the sort of thing you’d see in Futurama. In fact, I’m not entirely sure a similar idea wasn’t in an episode of Futurama when Bender starts a band, playing himself like a washboard. BUt if anything that makes me want this thing more. It’s a beautiful design and it’s sure to bring a smile to people’s faces.

I get the feeling that the world’s obsession with Angry Birds is starting to wane, possibly because everyone who will play it has played it, but this t-shirts from Glennz still made me laugh.

This is my first HYA post, hi. I wanted to start with more than just a random tee, but something with a bit of a story to it. So my friend M found shirt number 1 on ThinkGeek, while we were talking about autistic spectrum disorders. I have Asperger Syndrome, and the neurodiversity movement celebrates all of us who are not “neurotypical”, who are cognitively different due to our neurological make-up.

Anyway, I thought it was pretty great, such a huge brand embracing difference in that way and providing lots of information for the curious. It made me think about how much I love brains and neuroscience (I have a mind-crush on Oliver Sacks), but how the joy of brain-lovin’ has been taken over by zombie talk. You can’t even say “BRAINS!” without the obligatory “Braaaaaaaaaaains” from some blood-spattered fancy dress enthusiast. It’s not that zombies aren’t cool, but they’ve got a bit played out in recent years.

Here, therefore, are a lucky seven shirts that illustrate the awesomeness of the brain without a hint of gore or the undead. Celebrate your noggin!

5. I Love My Brain

I want this tee so much. Especially with the stripes. I DO love my brain, I DO. The lettering is ace, and I love the brain doodle instead of a heart. Gotta be done. Good job super small fits me well.

If you’ve ever had to spend any time learning about different types of graphs, it probably hurt your brain, and you probably thought the scatter graph looked pretty funny. This is for you. A truly graphical shirt. POD can be a bit of a risk when it comes to tee quality, but he illustrator, bumpybrains, has some other tasty brain-related apparel.

I don’t know if we can actually order this one – this shirt comes from Mumbai – or how the shirt feels and fits, but it’s well done and really made me smile. Excellent detail.

Okay, so given the frequency of posts about Glennz you might think we have a little t-shirt crush on him. But we can’t help the fact that the guy turns out fantastic designs time and time again. This one’s another major hit.

“Melting” is something I sometimes wish I could do to the Rubik’s Cube sitting on my bedroom shelf. It’s been there for about 10 years. Every few months I pick it up and twiddle it, often messing up any good work I’d done before. Then it gets set down again, ready to collect dust. If the universe wants to combine to concentrate the sun’s power on the cube and melt it to save me the hassle of having to attempt to be smart every so often (and failing miserably), I’d not necessarily be angry.

I happened to stumble across this shirt last week while browsing online.  Jugrnaut is a streetwear clothing brand and retail store out of Chicago, IL.  While clicking to check out their t-shirts, this gem popped out at me and I couldn’t stop laughing.  Ignoring the fact that I couldn’t figure out the black male cartoon character at first, UNTIL I googled Chip Tha Ripper . He is a music artist who has performed with such performers as Kid Cudi.  Apparently a lot of his albums contain cartoon work of him and thus Jugrnaut collaborated with him (and allegedly has several times before) to bring you this t-shirt.

Why was I laughing? Well come on, if you were born in the 80′s then you definitely grew up watching The Jetson’s, Flintstones, Simpsons, etc, etc.  I don’t know why it tickled me so much but seeing all these female cartoon characters together from my childhood on a t-shirt and after figuring out who Chip was; this design got 100 times funnier.  Especially the fact that I don’t think Jane Jetson would fall for a gansta rapper smoking a doobie.  I mean I can’t even imagine Chip Tha Ripper flying around Orbit City and sneaking into the SkyPad Apartments past Rosey.  Personally I think he’s more Judy’s type.
