Matthew Skiff has a store now

by David SEIBEI on May 4, 2012

The world of independent t-shirt companies is deceptively large (I know I had no idea just how many tee companies were out there until I really started looking), but if you’ve followed it for any length of time, you’re probably familiar with Matthew Skiff’s work. With a client list that includes 410 BC, 8-Bit Zombie, Dance Party Massacre, Death Shred, Ruckus, and more, the man is a proven hit maker, which is why it’s great to see that he’s now launched his own webstore.

This is all you really need to know about Skiff's webstore.

(all images ruthlessly stolen from Skiff’s website – sorry dude)

Opening with just three products, Skiff is the first to admit that it’s not much, but it’s a start. That said, the three products are all perfectly executed – the Double Death tee that perfectly encapsulates Skiff’s great balance of childhood nostalgia and sense of the macabre, a rad sticker pack, and this “What If He-Man and Skeletor Were Best Friends” art print, which I probably need to man up and purchase before they all get snatched up:

Eternia Pizza Party!

It’s like the menu at In-N-Out Burger – it’s a short list and not a wide selection by any means, but damn if every piece isn’t perfectly done and reasonably priced.

If you like what you see and you want to encourage the dude to put out more stuff, your best bet is to get on over there and buy something.

8-Bit Zombie Bub’s Records Top Review

by Ben_P on April 30, 2012

Post image for 8-Bit Zombie Bub’s Records Top Review

While I was waiting for my 8-Bit Zombie (8BZ) package, I felt like one of Pavlov’s Dogs. The door bell would ring and my mouth would salivate over the thought of the fresh, sweet joy of a new top. To my dismay however on most of the occasions it was just a door-to-door sales person or something equally uninspiring. Alas.

Success occurred finally and I was blessed with the presence of a delightful looking package neatly stuck together with an 8BZ logo sticker. The package didn’t stay neat for long. Upon opening the pack I found the top, a hat and a slew of goodies which greatly surprised me. The goodies contained a few badges, trading cards based on 80’s films and games and a vintage Muscle Man toy. I digress.

This is the first vest top that I’ve actually ever worn so for me it was an unusual feeling. It certainly felt snug and nice against my skin but I don’t think the top flattered my physique in any way shape or form, however this may be the gentle kick I need to get in to shape. The design is based upon Bub’s from George A Romero’s film Day Of The Dead. Having watched the film I struggled to remember the character but a few quick google searches and I could see the inspiration clearly.

The print quality is fantastic and certainly feels like it will last a long time and even if it were to crack it certainly wouldn’t ruin the design of the shirt unlike other designs out there. I’ve yet to actually wash the top because frankly I don’t want to take it off, but I have faith that it will wash and iron well.

(I want to note here that I am truly sorry for my appalling photo, I’m in no way shape or form a photogenic person.  Please don’t let this reflect poorly upon the top! )

The top is both printed on the front and the back and the design is something I absolutely love and reflects my punk rock taste, it will certainly become one of my most worn tops. For the amount of work that has clearly gone into this I think $20 is brilliant value for the top. I’ve already received positive comments and general jealousy toward this top from my friends, this coupled with the fact the design is almost sold out entirely on the website shows just how popular the top really is. Here is to hoping he gets more reprints in so more people can enjoy the shirts!

The top really goes well with the black and white snap-back hat that Ross kindly sent me too. The hat has Gizmo from Gremlins on it with a multicolour screen print on the peak too. Again the print quality is great and I’m very curious to see the process behind screen printing the peak of the hat, because it certainly looks like it could be fiddly. It’s nice to see some really unique hats being made as well because I like my all of my clothes to reflect my tastes, not just my tops. I don’t generally wear hats because I find hats that are readily available in the UK to either be flat peaks which I don’t think I can pull off, or boring designs. This is neither and is likely to become my main hat of choice in my wardrobe.

(Because I was so un photogenic I decided to use my lovely nephew for a hat pose! He photos far better than I. Proud uncle here!)

It really must seem that I’ve been paid* to write fantastic words about 8BZ but in all honesty I love the shirts and it’s the main reason I started getting in contact with them because I was so drawn in by the designs. I’m not sure why I’m defending myself to you the readers, but I’m sure if you check out or purchase any of the stuff from 8BZ you are likely to agree with me. If you are interested in 8-Bit Zombie then definitely check out their website for more interesting retro shirts (and hats)

My Favourite Shows, My Favourite Tees

by Ben_P on April 6, 2012

I watch a lot of television shows… and I mean a lot. As a fan of different shows I also love telling the world about it and what better way of expressing my views than through a T-shirt. A lot of these T-shirts are going to be the officially licensed shirts but I will try to include unique and independently designed shirts that pay homage to these shows too.

One of my favourite shows of all time has to be Chuck. The not so sauve comedy spy series about a nerd. Some of the best story lines in this show are the spin offs and that’s why this Jeffster T-Shirt is amazing, for you non-Chuck fans Jeffster is a band in the series. Surprisingly a really nifty design for an officially licensed product, they usually in my opinion lack creativity and are dull. However in this case I’d certainly wear this shirt. You can also find a slew of other merchandise including tees on the Chuck site.

Parks & Recreation, another amazing show that I’ve only just gotten into, but I slammed through every episode out within the period of a week, and you know why, because I’m Ron Swanson. Okay, maybe I’m not but I can definitely feel the part wearing this shirt. It’s basic, it’s not particularly creative but the sheer fact that it’s Ron Swanson makes up for this in my opinion.

If Ron Swanson isn’t your guy (how dare you) then no one can deny the brilliance of Li’l Sebastian. If you don’t like Li’l Sebastian you are heartless and that is a fact.

Dexter, the amazing show about the serial killer. While searching for the shirts for this I’ve stumbled across many creative pieces for this show. Two shirts really stood out to me available at RedBubble, I’m a big fan of comedy mash up shirts so these really suited my personal taste. First a humorous Scream / Dexter combination. The second a Captain Morgan’s / Dexter mash up which is just delightful.

As a huge Sopranos fan I found this next shirt quite funny. If you don’t get the reference you need to watch more of the show. Over at Cafe Press you can get a variety of merchandise with this design on it. If you’d rather a more authentic shirt showing off the cast of the Sopranos there are many available, but really they’re not as interesting and I prefer the little references like Cleaver or Bada Bing.

This list would not be complete without It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia being mentioned. Some of the best shirts are from this show, although I am biased because I absolutely LOVE it. The most famous being Charlie’s horse shirt. There are so many more shirts though, such as Mac’s famous Riot shirt.

There are so many more TV shows that I watch and may more shirts that I could post but I don’t want to condense it all down into one blog post which many people may be unwilling to read through. So I’ll leave it at this, but in the future I will put up more posts regarding television T-Shirts.

8-Bit Zombie Tees

by Ben_P on March 23, 2012

Post image for 8-Bit Zombie Tees

I was looking through the Tee Madness 2012 contestants and I came across 8-Bit Zombie, the name sounded awesome so I decided to check them out. After going through the cheesy, but quirky, homepage I discovered a whole slew of kick ass looking t-shirts. There are definitely t-shirts to suit the taste of anyone who enjoys a (8)bit of 80’s retro nostalgia. My personal favourite being the Bettlejuice t-shirt, even though I’ve not watched the film I still love the colours and design of it. I’m certainly considering buying one because my girlfriend would love the Labyrinth design. 8-Bit Zombie guys also managed to get into the second round of Tee Madness, if you want to vote in round 2 head on over to the site.

Post image for “Pinup Zombie Girl” t-shirt from ZombieFriedTees at Etsy

While browsing through Etsy I stumbled across this shirt, which brings together two of the greatest inventions ever. Sexy vintage pinup ladies and zombies. Now whether or not the end product is something that everyone will like is up for debate, it is however undeniable that it’s an awesome concept. My problem with the shirt is that the positioning of the design leaves a lot of empty space. I also feel that the dark colour of the shirt overshadows the design a tad, personally a lighter colour, such as grey, would have shown off the image a bit better.

firefly t-shirt

Serenity/Firefly tee up at TeeFury.

I tried to make nacho cheese a couple of weeks ago, it was hideous, America, what are you thinking with that stuff? Shirt.Woot.

TMNT meets Queen in this unexpected mashup at RIPT.

I don’t think I ever considered that I’d post a horror Mary Poppins t-shirt, but Qwertee have filled in that gap.

Goonies in the style of Peanuts anyone? Shirt Punch.

24tee may have posted this previously, but it still made me smile, it’s just so bold!

Hmmm, I get the feeling that I haven’t seen the episode of Community that this TeeRaiders shirt is referring to.

Tusken Raiders new in at Tshirt Contest. Can anyone else think of a place that they’ve seen this concept before, I’m sure I’ve seen it elsewhere?

That’s pretty cool, DBH.

“Don’t use the Z word” is a Shaun of the Dead shirt up at GraphicLab for the rest of the week (I’m glad the lateness of this design was just a blip, I was a little worried about them).

Made in the Now have a shirt about love letters that recently went on display at a museum in California sent by Richard Nixon to his future bride.

Tilteed have an old shirt with a massive anteater on it.

Emma Stone hates cancer, possibly likes Star Wars.

Jake Nickell has a good blog post about why Threadless exists.

To celebrate 4 years of having his own store Glennz is offering a massive 40% off until Friday with the coupon code gt4years.

TwinSrpnt are offering 25% of tees all this month.

This is a dog wearing a t-shirt.

Disturbia SS12 out now!

by Andy on March 12, 2012

disturbia clothing

I was a little bit out of the loop with the latest release at Disturbia, as the collection went on sale a bit over a week ago, but it’s still pretty fresh news if you ask me.

It’s a pretty big release, but that’s hardly surprising since they’re pretty big now, we all know I’m not big into my horror designs, but they’ve made a name for themselves in that niche and they have quite a lot of stuff that I’d wear even though I don’t spend much time in that corner of the market, which suggest to me that they’re doing something right. Check out the lookout after the break.

T-shirt news for March 9th

how I met your mother t-shirt

Considering how popular How I Met Your Mother is there are surprisingly few t-shirts about it, TeeFury are bucking that trend.

Shirt.Woot‘s description suggests that this shirt has nothing to do with the Brady Bunch.

Whiskey and zombies, a match made in the apocalypse (and at RIPT).

An Asian take on the three-eyed fish from the early days of The Simpsons are Qwertee.

Zelda inspired shirt at Shirt Punch.

A surprisingly intricate Vader design at The Yetee.

I might be reading a bit more into this that there really is, but today is the anniversary of the Notorious B.I.G’s death, and he had a song called ‘Recognize a Pimp’ so…. 24tee, did I crack the code?

Hydro74 has one of those styles you can recognise really easily, here he is at DBH today.

Today’s Made in the Now shirt references the story of a cupcake vending machine in Beverly Hills.

BustedTees ‘Control Freak’ design is down to $11 from $20.

Cute design gets another outing at Tilteed.

Tee and Toast are gearing up for St. Patrick’s Day with these Guiness brooches.

Last Exit to Nowhere were approached to be the official producer of crew t-shirts for John Carter (which is released today, just by chance), and they’ve been allowed to sell the shirts for a limited time.

SS12 is now online at Dephect.

New Diamond Supply Co snapbacks are in at Street Casuals.

SpringLeap have teamed up with Stimorol for their biggest ever design contest, and this time it’s for packaging, not tees.

New shirts and restocks at Seventh.Ink

by Andy on February 22, 2012

knocked speechless t-shirt

I’m still trying to get through the backlog of e-mails I received whilst I was falling down the mountains in Italy, which is why despite this realease going live at Seventh.Ink almost two weeks ago I’m still regarding it as new, because if I haven’t seen it, it’s new to me.

The skull shirt is the most interesting release of course, with it being the only original art in the collection, the Lucky Brains shirt is a restock, and I do like those shirt colours for some fresh variations on their logo tee.

cookie monster t-shirt

Again with the Muppets at TeeFury!

Not for me at Shirt.Woot today, but there’s nothing wrong with it.

Not sure if I’d wear this shirt just because it’s on white, but I certainly to like this Walking Dead design at RIPT.

T-shirt News for January 18th

dexter t-shirt

Any Dexter fans in the house? I’m sure this TeeFury design will be right up your street.

I don’t think that sounds like a good idea AT ALL. Shirt.Woot.

RIPT couldn’t decide on a reference today so they had to just use all of them.

I don’t get it. Nowhere Bad.

Awful lot of skulls today at Shirt Punch.

One for the atheists over at

I don’t watch Archer, but I’m fairly sure that’s what this TeeMinus24 shirt is referencing.

There’s a new Doctor Who t-shirt at 24tee.

As long as you like all-over prints this shirt at DBH is rather lovely.

Hey look, Tilteed are selling that cool sushi t-shirt again.

Design Juices showcase 50 t-shirts with interesting typography.

T-Post are giving away the T-shirt Stories documentary DVD (which I can’t find anywhere in the UK, and I don’t know if I can order it off French Amazon) to people who subscribe to their tee service.

Green Day are running a t-shirt design contest, except you have to be part of their ‘Idiot Club’ to enter, and that has a $20 annual subscription, so you effectively have to pay to enter this contest… lame.

Miles To Go are running a poster sale until Friday.

Wrongwroks have opened a 2nd store in China, it’s fun to watch Tony’s brand expanding.

HYA isn’t going dark in protest of SOPA/PIPA (mostly because I don’t think anyone would miss it) but a lot of other websites are.

Rigu is still a thing.

Karmaloop have a video about L’il Wayne’s new clothing line (that doesn’t look at all like every other BAPE-esque brand out there), TRUKFIT.

604Republic have upped the prize in their design competition.

Daily T-shirt News Roundup for January 13th

by Andy on January 13, 2012

exorcist rolling stones t-shirt

This shirt at TeeFury is a mashup of The Exorcist and the Rolling Stones, which is pretty appropriate for Friday the 13th, it’s almost like they planned it!

I’m fairly sure that I’ve seen this Firefly shirt somewhere else before it docked at Qwertee.

Shirt.Woot have the kind of shirt I would put on a level with Three Wolf Moon, except with no ironic redemption.

RIPT are getting into the Hobbit spirit a little early.

TeeMinus24 must have been watching LOTR too.

This 24tee shirt doesn’t really work with my British mind.

One for the Star Wars fans at TeeRaiders.

An Ozzy Osbourne/Iron Man parody for you today at Shirt Punch.

Now that’s an angry bear at DBH (who I notice have made a few little tweaks to their homepage).

Loviu are doing mystery tees for 7€ from now until the end of the month. The text says “order 3 mystery tees only 7 euros each” but I think that three is the maximum for one transaction, not the minimum, as I was able to add one tee to the cart when I gave it at go.

BustedTees have got their Hunger Games t-shirt on sale for $11.99 instead of $20 for the rest of today.

Hey look, Tilteed, are selling ‘Expansion II’ again.

Details of Graniph‘s design award have been announced. Submissions open on February 1st, and the top prize is 500,000 yen, which is probably a lot of money.

Graniph are also having their winter sale at the moment, loads of goods marked down by as much as 50%.

Turista Clothing have a 35% off coupon code at the moment, HPY2012, that will be live until January 15th. They also have some new tees you many want to check out. [via TTG]

Kid Robot have a decent sale on, with 50% off all of last year’s designs.

The first of Obey’s Spring 2012 line has dropped at Urban Industry.

I think that only a mother could love these (recently restocked) barcode hoodies at Methods NYC, but the coupon code of BRICK getting you 25% off your order on anything in the store until tomorrow at midnight (EST, presumably) is a lot more tantalising.

Taken Clothing have got everything on sale for $20 until January 17th. I’m not sure how much things cost before the sale, but presumably it was more than $20.

Get 13% off your order at Trust No One with the coupon code UNLUCKYFORSOME until 9am tomorrow UK time.

Own the Night Clothing have a sale on until midnight UK time. [via TTG]

Complex list the 50 greatest pop culture reference in streetwear.

Lo-fi zombie t-shirts from Antonio Ladrillo

by Andy on January 4, 2012

zombie t-shirts

I don’t think that I’ve ever seen zombie t-shirts like this before. Antonio Ladrillo is an illustrator from Barcelona, Spain, that recently released this interesting mini-collection of tees featuring simple and colourful faces of zombies. Each is available for 29€ in his store, which is more than I’d usually pay for a t-shirt, but then again I rarely buy t-shirts so my view of the value of a shirt is fairly distorted by now.

Daily Tees & News for December 20th

night of the living dead t-shirt

This TeeFury shirt has everything, horror, a movie parody, 80s games, 8-bit, and lots of criticism in their comments about the head looking pasted on!

Not often you see an orange shirt, usually it only happens when Tilteed pull this design out of the closet.

This Shirt.Woot design is simple but I like it. I’ve never ordered anything from Shirt.Woot, what are their delivery times like? Any chance you’ll be able to wear this before Egg Nog season is over?

goodie two sleeves t-shirts

Since I was having connection troubles last week I didn’t get a chance to blog about the latest releases from Goodie Two Sleeves. Apparently Goodie are getting prepared for Halloween 2012 good and early, because they are adding to their already impressive array of zombie t-shirts. Who knows how many they’ll have by the time it’s actually Halloween!

dance party massacre

Quite a cool concept in this release from Dance Party Massacre, they’ve combined three famous horror characters with three of the biggest pop stars of all time. There’s also their eyeconic logo on a sweatshirt, just because it’s cold outside doesn’t mean you can’t show off your DPM fandom.

zombie subway t-shirt

Even though I’d like to think that I shy away from punny parody tees, I do rather like the Subway/zombie shirt that Goodie Two Sleeves have released this week. As always, you get get $5 off your order on any tees (not just the new ones) with the coupon code HIGHFIVE.

boardwalk empire t-shirt

Hope everyone had a good weekend, I did, during my snowboarding lesson at the dry slope it started to snow!

I can’t be the only person that feels kind of scared when this guy comes on screen during Boardwalk Empire, right? Definitely some fine acting going on there. TeeFury.

RIPT have a shirt that I’m sure will not anger any Star Wars or Star Trek fans.

Qwertee have dropped a Shining/Joker shirt for Jack Nicholson fans.

Daily Tees & News for November 29th

by Andy on November 29, 2011

night of the living dead t-shirt

Very cool Night of the Living Dead shirt from TeeFury today.

Here’s another Firefly design I don’t understand at Qwertee, and I’m all the more confused because it is a Jurassic Park mashup too.

Song Bird makes another appearance at Tilteed.

Good use of negative space from today.

Nice take on the old proverb from Shirt.Woot.

I guess that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles must be popular again since there is a definite rise in the amount of TMNT shirts I’ve been seeing recently, and I’m not exactly hunting them out. From $10 at RIPT.

I previously featured this shirt a couple of weeks ago when it was on RedBubble, but now it has made it’s way over to The Yetee for the next few days.

I haven’t seen Machete but this parody shirt from OtherTees still makes me laugh.

How depressed does Snuffaluffagus look? 24tee.

As a big Community fan I am very pleased to see this ‘Troy & Abed in the morning’ shirt up at TeeRaiders.

The infinite Swiss army knife makes a return to Loviu.

Nice to see a Zoidberg/Futurama shirt on Shirt Punch today.

I think I’d probably like this latest DBH shirt if it didn’t have the sea turtle on it, but it’s still wearable nevertheless.

Don’t worry, it’s cool to be a nerd now! $11 down from $20 at BustedTees today.

The Cool Hunting gift guide is now live.

I Am The Trend have an excellent post introducing Grave Takers, a new brand from Kyle Crawford of Electric Zombie fame.

RUReppin found some useful articles for t-shirt designers.
