Regular readers will notice that I have stopped doing the daily roundup of t-shirts from places like TeeFury and RIPT. It’s not that I don’t like those sites anymore, it was just an awful lot of work for not a lot of return, and there’s only so many times I can complain about ridiculous mashups without getting very bored. So it’s actually kind of a pity that as soon as I stop with those posts along comes a shirt-a-day site that is offering something a bit different.

Quoted Tee shun the usual pop culture references, instead selling a different typographic t-shirt every day and from what I have seen so far the quality level has been high. Shirts are $11 for the first 24 hours, but are available beyond that for $21, so even if you miss out first time around you’ll still be able to pick up a shirt.

Fingers crossed that this site can stand the test of time instead of falling by the wayside as many other shirt-a-day sites have done. It is a side-project of the Wear Viral team so hopefully that is a positive sign, since all their eggs aren’t in one basket.

I’m running out of good things to say about Random Objects, they are easily in the top 5 brands that I like (I don’t have a real list, but you know what I mean). Luckily for us, this is just the first part of their Spring collection, so I’m looking forward to the next lot of goods arriving sooner rather than later. Tees are $24 each.

A week or so back I received a T-Shirt from Known. Ironically they were not Known to me, safe to say though I now am thoroughly informed. They certainly give off the impression of a well designed and made brand especially since they were only established in 2012, so I have high hopes for 2013 and onwards.

The Tee I received ‘All Day Every Day‘ which is probably a slogan for their company as I’m sure they work round the on polishing their brand, I definitely commend them on their efforts so far. It’s a nice grey tee with a lovely printed All Day Every Day in two colours one shadowing the other and an accompanying Known Logo which is simple but effective. It’s available in 3 different colours too which is nice. I’m not certain on who the tee is actually manufactured by as they have removed the previous tags and put their own Known tag inside – which is always a nice touch, the quality of the garment is decent however I’ve received better tees in the past but this certainly could stand up against anything on the high street. The screen printing on the garment looks a tad thick so I’m concerned about whether it will crack in the future as I have only washed it a few times since receiving it, but saying this the thickness of it really does make it pop.

If I’m going to be honest I’m not a huge fan of the design, while the font work and everything is beautifully crafted I can’t foresee it being a troublesome design to create compared to others out there. Especially at almost £30.00 I personally wouldn’t buy it in shop, but that’s just me – I resent paying anything for tee’s really! However it seems that a lot of tees nowadays do cost upwards of that and more, the choice is yours as the consumer really. I don’t want to sound like I’m really beating down on this brand because I’m not. I just think on occasion some companies need a bit of a reality check to a certain degree. While I have been somewhat negative about this tee I do like it because it goes well as a tee that you wear with a zip hoodie, it’s understated but effective at the same time.

Overall Known look to be a well polished brand and really do give off a more established brand vibe but personally I think they need to give their designs a little bit more of a kick to it. I know on certain occasions I do think less is more, but as a consumer I’d like to feel that someone’s heart and soul has gone into a design (well maybe not that far) but I just feel Known need to give people more of a reason to want to buy their stuff. This is a bit of an odd review and will be split into two sections I was receiving a tee from Wildcard Clothing (Hipster Hate Tee) and also received one at the same time from Territorial Clothing (who’s range you can purchase from Wildcard Clothing). Tee Inception! Anyway I’ll start first with the Hipster Hate Tee from Wildcard Clothing which I received.

It certainly took me back because I had no idea what I was receiving so was slightly hesitant, however upon opening the package I noticed a bright blue almost tie dyed shirt (it’s not actually tie die it’s an Acid Wash which I will explain further), with a really well printed HATE design on it. While this design isn’t something I’d usually wear I could really appreciate the effort that had gone into it, I’m not really a huge fan of the fact that it says HATE all over the tee but the actual design of it impresses me that I enjoy wearing it.

The first thing you will see though is the tie dye effect, now I mentioned before that this was created using an acid wash. It’s pretty retro I think started in the 80′s in the jeans market. Essentially what they have done is take a blue tee and used chemicals to remove colours from sections of the tee, which in turn makes every tee unique (who doesn’t love unique clothes?!), my guess would be that they’ve used some form of bleach to create this effect as in prior years I’ve managed to do the same to a lot of my clothes when bleaching my hair (woops). They’ve then screen printed over the top of the tee and the result is pretty nice, it gives a very home made feel to the design which some of you may love and some of you may hate. I found myself quite liking this design even though I thought I wouldn’t, it’s so different and a bit crazy from the tees I usually wear so it was quite a breath of fresh air. Even though the tee itself looks a bit home made the printing upon it is excellent. I can’t fault it or the design apart form my initial dislike of the word hate, perhaps they can make a love version in the future?

So if you’re into a quirky and unique tee definitely give this one a purchase. Considering it’s hand finished design it’s pretty reasonably priced at £18.00 and if you just like the design and not hippy enough they also do a non acid wash version for £10! Which is a steal –  so you really have no excuse. I certainly know that if I ever need to bleach my hair again I can wear this one.

And on to the tee that I was originally being sent by Territorial Clothing! I really like this tee, I usually don’t like or go for typography t-shirts but I love the message and it’s clear they’ve put a lot of thought into it and picked their lettering accordingly.

‘Family is always sacred territory’ is something that I’m sure everyone can relate too, so I particularly enjoyed the message and in general everything about it. The border to the design also gives me the impression of lions hair which further reflects the territorial aspect. The changing of the font and style throughout the message is awesome as if it were all one style I’d feel a bit cheated and it’s cool because it reflects the different members of peoples family in a way, or perhaps I’m reading far too much into it!

The actual T-shirt is Gildan which while isn’t the best – certainly isn’t something that should deter anyone from making a purchase. They’re a well made budget tee. These guys give off an air of professionalism that I’d expect from well established brands, so for them to be pushing out these kinds of designs is quite impressive, just hoping that in the future they might be able to bring out some American Apparel tees – I have, like most people, a love affair with them!

Whilst I’m not an Oasis fan at all, I do like the look of this shirt, possibly because I constantly pair red with blue.

This little package arrived on my doorstep a few days ago. In case you’re incapable of reading, it’s a package from blu-boy, a tee brand started up by Bev O’Shea when a freelance graphic designer in Ireland. “I guess it’s safe to say that I got bored of playing it safe and sticking to the norm,” Bev said in a covering email. Not sticking to the norm results in some brilliant t-shirts.

Opening the package was great. For what is a relatively young brand, blu-boy have managed to put together a really professional style of presentation that makes receiving a tee more of an event. As a little attempt to bring something new I used Vine to produce a 6-second unboxing of the shirt itself here.

The shirt blu-boy sent was their ‘Exquisite’ design (€25.00) on a black crew neck – and I can’t fault it one bit. It’s one of the least brash designs they do, and I think the sort of understated nature makes it excellent. I’m a strong type fan, and this is great use of it. It’s subtle enough that you don’t feel overly self-conscious wearing it while standing out enough that it’s not the sort of thing you find ten a penny on the racks at any high street shop.

Everything about this seems well made, from the thick card stock used for the brand tag on the back of the neck to the printing itself (blu-boy use water-based inks, for those of you who are concerned about the environment and want your tees to have a green-friendly provenance).

All told, this is a really great tee – which means I’m stuck for having much to say. What I will say is that this isn’t the only good design that the guys at blu-boy have online, and it’s well worth a look at their online store to see if there are any others out there you might fancy.
