Victoria Beckham gets naked for Marc Jacobs

Have any of you guys seen those tees which have naked celebs on them with a slogan placed to hide all the naughty bits?I know they’re hardly a new concept (the project started in 2006), but I spotted a good roundup and explanation of the project on a blog called “If It’s Hip, It’s Here” and thought that it was pretty interesting. I think the tees are about $35 each, which is probably too much for many, but apparently all proceeds go to the NYU Cancer Institute, so you’re kinda making a $35 donation to a charity and getting a free tee out of it.

Hayden Panettiere Wants to Save The Whales… Again!

Whilst I realise that celebrities selling off their clothes for charity is a noble cause which is hardly new (Elton John does this pretty, regularly I do believe), for some reason the only people I can imagine buying these items is creepy middle-aged guys with a huge, rather age inappropriate, crush on the diminutive Heroes hottie (hey, I can say it, I’m not that much older than her).Still, if it helps save the whales, I’m all for it!

This is another bunch of tees that I personally wouldn’t wear, probably because the word ‘twat’ is far more NSFW in the UK than the US (I think?), but since a portion of each sale goes to Operation Enduring Care (a charity which supports American troops who have been injured) I thought I’d give them a quick link.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama by FerneMillen

Well, apparently, they’re both going to have their own celebrity clothing lines. Yep, because if there’s anyone that I’d like to design my clothes, its a guy that wears an orange sheet!

Fashionista blog reports that street fashion brand Tonic will launch a personally-branded t-shirt line with His Holiness the Dalai Lama, with proceeds benefiting charities of his choosing.

I’m a little bit skeptical about this story to say the least, I first came across it via Boing Boing (where the above quote comes from), who said that Fashionista were reporting it, but the BB link lead to a dead end, and I can’t find a trace of it on the Fashionista site, and no one else seems to have reported it on Google News (obviously there are rather more pressing issues in Tibet for him to be concerned with at the moment which might be affecting my searches). I’m not saying its untrue since it doesn’t seem that crazy for him to have some tees designed (presumably for him, not by him) with a large chunk of the sales going to charities selected by his holiness, but it does seem like the kind of thing that would have more than one source.

Maybe I should just accept that I’ve lost my titling mojo for good and stick to the informative style?

Cotton gang are running a pretty interesting concept for their line of tees, I’ll let their blurb explain it far more succinctly than I possibly could.

The aim of this new venture is to continue producing art and getting a chance
to work with some of our favorite artists. The concept is simple; we pick an
artist every season and give them a blank Canvas on three shirts. Then we create
three shirts of our own, which the artist collaborates on. The result is a
totally original line every season.

The second part of this venture is to create income for the artist, so that
they may continue creating art. So large portions of the sale are given directly
to the artist. This is coupled with our sponsorship of a charity a season, in
which we donate two dollars from every sale to that specific charity. This
months charity is Kristi House (KristiHouse.org) which is a place where sexually
abused children in Miami can get therapy.

Collaborations are big right now, I’ve just got done reading Jeremyville’s Sessions book (available in his online shop), and that’s taught me a lot about the value of collaboration in art, and I think this is a pretty interesting way of creating a line of tees. And of course, giving $2 dollars from each sale to charity if a really great move.

Their collection of shirts is a little bit bare at the moment, hopefully it will expand in the coming months, but there are some great designs in there, like the one I’ve pointed out in the above picture.
