steve mcqueen leather jacket

imageleatherjacket 480x695 Lewis Leathers Re introduce an iconic leather jacket once worn by Steve McQueen
Motorbikes scare me. The thought of riding one scares me, the thought of hitting one whilst I’m driving scares me, even them being behind me as I’m driving makes me nervous because I know that they are usually waiting for the next opportunity to pass me. I think that part of this stems from a guy overtaking me on his bike and then me finding him trapped under a car on the next bend, so I think I’m quite justified in not seeing the value of moving very fast with minimal protection.

However, some people are a lot more brave/foolhardy than I am, and that’s their choice and things will always be that way, so they might as well look good doing it. The leather jacket you can see above first came into production back in the 1930s and remained as an integral part of Lewis Leathers range until the middle of the 1960s, which is a lifespan that most designs don’t enjoy today. Steve McQueen was a fan of the jacket, picking it up whilst The Great Escape was being filmed, and he wore it in 1963 during the 500 mile Greenhorn Enduro race across the Mohave desert. Lewis have now decided to bring the jacket back into production and have reproduced the original in painstaking detail.

As my opening paragraph suggests, I don’t know much about motorbikes, and the clothing for them remains just as much of a mystery, but I would assume that a jacket like this can be worn both on and off your bike, and whether you’d want to risk wearing a £675 leather jacket whilst riding your bike is a whole other question.

Jacket available now from Lewis Leathers now.

These Supremebeing shirts at Street Casuals are a bit of a departure from the usual HYA fayre of printed graphics, but I quite like the change. There’s lots of strong and bold colourways here that I think would look really good being paired up with a lightly more muted top layer like a darker jakcet or zip up hoodie. Also in this release from Supremebeing is a couple hats and a few sweaters & light jackets but the tees looked the most interesting to me and this post had more than enough pictures in already anyway. If you’re looking to pick up a tee you’ll be spending £30, which does seem like quite a lot to me, but then again I haven’t paid for a t-shirt for a few years now so my perceptions of value are slightly warped.

I’m not nearly cool enough to have heard of Marshall Artist before Street Casuals dropped me an e-mail about them, but I like their style, everything is very clean and wearable. I could natter on for a while but to be honest the SC press release about the goods is far too well put together for me to ignore, so you can find that after the break.

pacman mario t-shirt

I like the concept but I’m not too into the style of the artwork in this Pcamn x Mario mashup tee at TeeFury today. It looks more like a comic (and a well illustrated one, let me be clear) than a t-shirt design.

YMC jacket

Yes, it is more than a little pricey at £95, but sometimes things just aren’t cheap and this is one of those times, and you should know by now that I like the idea of something in a conservative colourway (that still looks damn good) covering over a bright tee, juxtaposition my friends!

Costiness=£95 Buy it at Glass Boutique

Albatross jacket by La Merde

by Andy on November 14, 2009

La Merde Fall 2009 Men Jackets Hoodies 1258117896752 480x214 Albatross jacket by La Merde

I don’t think you need to be French to know what this label (which is actually part of the No Star Clothing group) is called in English. I may have derided Slut clothing earlier in the week for their choice of name (surprisingly they haven’t thanked me for that review yet), but with La Merde I can see how it works, their name is French, and therefore classy, but the translation is pretty cheeky, which is a lot like their clothing.

Costiness=$165 Available from La Merde.

A damn fine looking windbreaker from Johnny Cupcakes

November 2, 2009

The Johnny Cupcakes Juggernaut rolls on with yet more “hey, that’s not a t-shirt” items. I wasn’t too into the ties that were released recently, but then again, I write about t-shirts, so when would I ever wear a tie? This windbreaker though, this I can get into, I love the colourway, and the subtle [...]

Military Jacket by Obakki at Matthew Izzo

No Star introduces La Merde

March 16, 2009

When you think of No Star Clothing, your probably think of funny tees, a pretty light label, certainly not a premium brand. I guess that’s why the people behind No Star have launched La Merde (and yes, I know what that means), a new premium hoodie and jacket label. Gone are the funny slogans, and [...]

Billionaire Boys Club’s ‘Tuxedo’ Jacket – AKA “when streetwear goes wrong”

Stereopanda haven’t been on HYA for far too long, so I’m glad to welcome them back by actually writing about something that actually hides your arms, which is something of a novelty at the moment, but since Summer seems to be long gone I think its time to get back in the hoodie habit. SP [...]
