A blog about hoodies & t-shirts, with news from the independent clothing world

Lazer Stripe by Subscript @ Karmaloop

You might have noticed that I haven’t been posting many items of sleeved clothing recently, which is pretty odd since hoodies are the backbone of HYA, but when I’m spending my days wearing shorts and a t-shirt, sitting by lakes enjoying a cool beverage, writing about hoodies doesn’t make a huge amount of sense. I’ll keep posting about them, just not as much as usual whilst its as hot as it is at the moment.

At the very least, today’s hoodie recommendation comes in a cool and refreshing colourway, which is probably why I’m inclined to post it on a day when I literally can’t see a cloud in the sky out of the window.

I guess looking at this hoodie you don’t think that there’s anything really special going on, just a guy climbing a ladder on on top of a splash of colour, right?

Wrong. As far as I can tell, nothing on this hoodie is printed, it’s all stitched, which I’m guessing is quite a lot of work considering how much is going on at the back of this hoodie. I can’t decide whether I’d actually wear it, but I am certainly impressed by it.

One Shot One Kill by Orisue @ Karmaloop

I guess its kind of an aggressive message, but I really like the way that they’ve got an image running across all the words, and the massive print looks pretty good too.Costiness=$24 Link

It’s not often that you see a hoodie which has shoulder straps on it, in fact I don’t think I can’t recall ever seeing one, which makes this hoodie from Freshjive quite the novelty. Other than the shoulder straps it is a fairly simple hoodie, with the exception of ‘Freshjive’ being written on the lower back, in a style which is a bit too gangster for me, but the black/heather grey contrast works pretty well.

The Bandit hoodie by Cardboard Robot @ Karmaloop

See guys, I told you that I liked funnel hoodies!I’m not actually all that excited by the pattern on this piece, it kind of looks like you’ve already had it for years when you first get the parcel, and the way that they’ve tried to match up the two sides going across the zip is pretty lame, but for some reason I still like it overall. Possibly because if I were going to be a bandit, I probably would own an old hoodie, and I’d probably be too busy dealing with bandit related business to be concerned with the pattern not lining up across the zipper.

Oooh, you logo haters and not gonna be happy with this one, there’s about forty logos on this hoodie, although I think that its quite cool that KR3W have used lots of different versions of their logo, so perhaps you wouldn’t feel like as much of a billboard as usual if you were to slip this item on.

There’s more logos in the hood lining as well, which I think looks quite cool since as you know I’m a fan of labels doing anything interesting with the inside of the hood, and to put a print on instead of just a different colour fabric is a pleasant change of pace.

Question: Do we need more videos on HYA? Answers in the comments please.

Chelsea from Karmaloop TV got in touch with me about one of their latest videos, the one embedded above, which is all about the making of their latest ad for Missbehave Magazine. It’s kind of fun to see interviews with the models that I’ve been posting for the past couple of years, and the video is pretty funny, so watching it wouldn’t be the worst way to spend 3:19 of your life.

This vid also reminded me to check out some more of the content available on Karmaloop TV. I’ve gotta say that I’m impressed with the quality and professionalism of the vids, its way above what you’d expect, so if you’d forgotten about it or written them off in the past, pop on over and give it a second look.

Holy 80s Batman!Seriously, have you ever seen a tee design that wasn’t made in the 80s that looked more 80s than this? I do have a little knit to pick though, the eye on the left (as we look at it) does seem to be a bit too far on the left, although I guess there could be a case of model boob distortion changing the way that the design appears.

I’m really becoming a fan of funnel collars and hoods, they make you feel so much warmer, and you look pretty damn cool in the process, which is always a plus!

Other than the funnel collar, this is actually a pretty simple hoodie, apart from the rather odd addition of making this a short sleeved sweatshirt. I’m not really a fan of the way that they’ve dealt with those sleeves, the bunched up, elasticated hem just seems a bit lazy to me.

I know that this tee is called ‘I Funk NY’, but I’m pretty sure that if you walked up to anyone and got them to read this tee they’d say ‘I rock NY’ unless throwing the horns has changed its meaning since back in the days when I used to rock hard.

Whatever its name, this shirt is yet another fun twist on the classic ‘I [heart] NY’ tee that still gets so much love from tee designers.
