250 Beautiful Typography T-shirts

Typography t-shirts are probably my favourite category of t-shirt design styles, you know why? They get a reaction, they make you think, and they can be some of the most beautiful tees you’ll ever see. I have literally hundreds of t-shirts in my wardrobe, but if I’m in the mood to wear something that people will comment on it has to be a text tee, I’ve literally been stopped in the street to ask where I got some shirts, and that only happens with text tees because when people see text on a tee their eyes are drawn to it. Hmmm, did that last sentence make it seem like I’m desperate for attention? Validate me! Love me, love me, buy my t-shirt (that I persauded myself I shouldn’t include in the list despite it’s custom typework)!

It’s actually quite surprising that with my love of this style of t-shirt that I waited so long to post a ridiculously long list of typography t-shirts. I have no reason, but clearly in my mind people would rather see robot and Star Wars t-shirts (and even a list of t-shirt lists) before typography tees. I have bent the definition of a ‘typography t-shirt’ a bit here, I feel that in their pure form a typography shirt should be composed of great typework, and be about typography, but because that is a bit of a limiting category, I’ve decided to include t-shirts that display good and interesting uses of type.

It should be noted that I would not describe myself as an expert when it comes to typography, far from it, and that isn’t me being modest, I genuinely don’t know the principles of ‘good’ typography, or even if typography should be described as ‘good’. However, I do know a good looking and interesting t-shirt when I see it so hardcore typographers will hopefully not be too disappointed by the selection I’ll be listing today. Similarly, these shirts aren’t ranked in any order, the numbers are just there for reference, in fact I think this is one of the strongest lists I’ve put together, there’s real quality all the way through it, so it’s well worth clicking through to the next page (you thought I was going to put 250 t-shirts on one page?).

Okay, enough waffle, let’s look at a huge amount of t-shirts!

Topweightlossblogs.com – A site HYA readers won’t be interested in!

Following the success of t-shirtblo.gs and ShirtStor.es, I thought I might as well keep going with this new-site frenzy, and I’d try and break out of my usual niche of t-shirts and blogs with something I know very little about (though if yousaw me might think I should!); that subject is weight loss blogs. Thus, I bought and built topweightlossblogs.com, which aims to be the ultimate list of user ranked weight loss blogs on the internet. Since I sold out of small Hide Your Arms t-shirts before any other size, it would appear that hardcore HYA fans probably don’t need to lose much, if any, weight, but if you would like to check it out, rate some blogs, add some URLs if you know any cool weight loss blogs, and leave feedback that would be much appreciated. If I can create a network of sites like this that tick along nicely by themselves they will help me towards my goal of becoming a full-time blogger, and if I can mange that, it means an awful lot more t-shirts coming your way in the future.

Also, what sites would you like to see me producing in the future? I get the feeling that there might be quite a few sneakerheads in the audience, do you think that a sneaker site list would go down well?

ShirtStor.es – The Ultimate list of t-shirt stores!

Let’s be honest, I basically had to, right?

The amount of positive (and constructive) feedback that I’ve received since launching t-shirtblo.gs last week has been pretty amazing. There’s been close to 3,000 visits since launch, and the top 10 blogs on the list have way over 1000 votes between them, those are numbers that I’m really happy with. I, and a lot of other people are also finding out about a lot of cool t-shirt blogs as well. I’d like to think that I’m well integrated into the t-shirt community, and that as a group, there is quite a lot of linking and chatter, but these last 7 days have shown me that there’s a lot more people out there writing about shirts and hunting down great brands and designers, and that can only be a good thing for us all, especially now that we have a list where we can find them.

Every morning when I turn on my PC I load up the admin page for t-shirt blo.gs and check out the URLs that have been submitted overnight, and there’s something wrong with some of the links. They aren’t to t-shirt blogs, they’re to t-shirt stores. So, about mentioning it a couple of times on Twitter, some people said “why not make a list for that?” So I did.

If you’ve seen t-shirtblo.gs, ShirtStor.es will be very familiar to you. The premise is the same, sites are listed, voted on, and ranked using a 5 star system. Highest score wins. I’ve added about 50 sites myself to get the ball rolling, but I want t-shirt stores to be adding themselves, to make sure that they get the description of their site they want, since just having a brand name doesn’t necessarily help the reader know what kind of thing a t-shirt brand sells, after all, would you really think that Threadless sold t-shirts if you just heard their name?

I realise that there are A LOT more t-shirt stores than blogs, and that this list could get messy and ridiculously long quite quickly. To comabt this I am looking into whether it is possible to add pages to the list (say, 100 sites per page), or, and I think that this might be a bit more exciting, whether to send brands into “exile” by deleting the bottom 10 brands at the end of every month, then not allowing them to come back for a few months, how does that sound? As ever, thoughts, ideas, suggestions, and care pacakges of delicious fudge are very much appreciated. Now go, check out ShirtStor.es, vote for brands, and suggest some brands!

Evolution & Atheist T-shirts

This list would have made a lot more sense last year, when people were celebrating Darwin’s 200th birthday, but as it’s evolution, I think it’s appropriate to post anytime. I know you guys usually expect to see 100+ t-shirts in a list from Hide Your Arms, but unsurprisingly a lot more people want to make t-shirts about Star Wars and Robots than evolution.

For what it’s worth, I’m an atheist, I believe in evolution, if you don’t, I respect your right to have a different opinion to me, so please afford me the same respect. Evolution and atheism tend to go hand-in-hand, and for that reason I have included a t-shirts that are more specifically ‘atheist t-shirts’ rather than t-shirts about evolution.

When it comes to t-shirts about the subject of evolution, the first thing a lot of designers think of is “The Evolution of Man“, so that style does make up the bulk of the list, but there are some other really good designs in the list too, enjoy!
