Gap worked in close partnership with the Whitney Museum of American Art and Art Production Fund to create the collection with the 13 artists, who are all previous Whitney Biennial participants. The Whitney Biennial is a special exhibition held every two years at the Whitney Museum of American Art that features the most important contemporary art in the United States. Gap is a proud sponsor of the 2008 Whitney Biennial.
Is it just me or does that read like part of a press release? I hadn’t actually heard of any of the artists (I’m no art buff), but that doesn’t stop them from being a damn fine line of t-shirts. They’re available from select GAP stores (so the ones in big cities then?), online at GAP.com, a few art museums in the US, and Colette in Paris for between $28 and $32.

Check out Glass Boutique’s blog for some of the better entries to their design competition, I’m pretty impressed by the quality level. I’m guessing that they aren’t getting the same level of interest and publicity as the big guns like Threadless and DBH, this could be a good opportunity for people who are new to the t-shirt design scene to get some experience in the design competition world.

To coincide with the launch of eBoy’s current exhibition Concrete Hermit have produced a special limited edition of 100 T-shirts. Hand screen-printed in London these t-shirts show a detail from eBoy’s colour rich panoramic cityscape of Los Angeles. A series of prints and other products including a unique pure wool blanket have also been produced to mark the occasion and will be available exclusively from Concrete Hermit. The exhibition runs from 9th May - 30th June. Concrete Hermit Gallery, 5a Club Row, London, E1 6JX. Open 10am – 6pm Tuesday-Sunday.

CH also have a pretty wide range of eBoy’s city prints for £12, and a very limited edition (just 10 available) blanket for £180.

All you have to do is design a tee for the music festival, which I presume is pretty simple**, and if your design is chosen then you’ll win 2 weekend camping tickets for the very sold out festival (the lineup for which includes The Verve, The Chemical Brothers, Rage Against the Machine, REM, The Prodigy, Aphex Twin, Justice, Ian Brown, Primal Scream, MGMT, Hot Chip), a two man tent, two sleeping bags, two roll mats, five of the competition winning tees, and £100 in Teetonic vouchers.Considering this tee will probably be bought by thousands of festival-goers, I think that the prize package is actually a little light, but I guess that if you’re a t-shirt designer then being able to say that you designed an official tee for one of the UKs biggest music festivals would be pretty good for your portfolio, but some cash to cover your expenses at the festival probably wouldn’t have gone amiss. The competition is open for submissions until May 30th.

*Well, it can, if you’re willing to pay through the nose for a ticket on eBay.
** Kidding, kidding.
I know that there a few people who read HYA that want to start their own t-shirt lines (I’m one of them… eventually friends, eventually), so when I found this list on Emptees of website and MySpace designers that would probably be of help to those of you that know how to design a badass t-shirt, but don’t know the first thing when it comes to designing a website.
My last Johnny Cupcakes post was titled “Johnny Cupcakes is turning into Willie Wonka”, and take a guess what he said in the latest mailout?
I almost feel like the Willy Wonka of t-shirts. I enjoy making people feel like kids again.
Yep, I’m feeling pretty good right now, why? Because I totally called it! If you haven’t noticed, I’m a really bad winner (hell, you don’t want to see me lose), so when I get something right its usually best to just walk away for about five minutes until I’ve stopped gloating.
Anyway, JC has dropped a video (feed reader… readers may need to click through to watch the embedded vid) that explains all the goings on at the new store, it doesn’t give us much more information, but its good to have a video to help me visualise the shop. When this place opens if there aren’t any good pictures on Flickr or the JC site I might have to get my guy in LA to cover it.
