A blog about hoodies & t-shirts, with news from the independent clothing world

Okay, this isn’t a clothes related post, but I love mimobots and hopefully by entering the contest that they’re running with tokidoki (whom I also love) you’ll be able to love them too. All you have to do is go to this page and sign up to the mimoco newsletter and you’ll be put in the hat for the following prizes:

GRAND PRIZE (1 winner):
* Full set of the tokidoki for MIMOBOT designs!
* 8″ Sahara Qee by tokidoki signed by Simone Legno
* Simone Action Figure
* Metropark $150 Gift Card

RUNNER-UP (3 winners):
* Choice of tokidoki for MIMOBOT USB Flash Drive
* Metropark $50 Gift Card

You can also be entered into the sweepstakes by buying a Tokidoki x Mimoco mimobot in their online store, or at any Metropark store. The sweepstakes run from now until May 20th

Mimoco x Tokidoki Sweepstakes

I’ve just spotted that Josh Spear are running a mimobot competition too, but this one requires a little more creative thought. You need to go to this page and leave a comment discussing what the mimobot in the picture are doing, just write a little story. There was only been 10 comments when I wrote this post, so you’ve got a decent chance of winning, as long as you get your entry in before May 5th.

Nick Mannion MOD:1

The Urban Retro crew are clearly just waiting for the day when our robot slaves inevitably rise-up, stop riding bicycles for our amusment, and enslave the rest of us because they’ve been appeasing the robot world with so many fine, fine robot-based products in their store. They’ve added t-shirts by Dephect and Terratag, vinyl toys, iPod & iPhone gelaskins and even some Poketo wallets that all benefit from that extra touch of awesome that can only come from having a robot-based design.

Throughout the whole month of April you can get 15% off your order (that doesn’t necessarily have to involve robot products… I think) by using the coupon code LOVEROBOTS. There’s that number 15 again, this is getting kinda weird!

Check out their blog post all about the latest releases.

Not clothes related, but still pretty cool anyway. Popdeck, the skateboard design competition, are having a ‘deal or no deal sale’ where you buy a deck then find out later how much discount you get. Here’s the details:

We are holding our 1st “Deal or No Deal Sale”. Basically, how it works is behind every number, there is a predetermined discount amount ranging anywhere from 1 penny to 40 dollars off!. The sale will run for 3 days and after the third day, we will post in our talk section the final discount value for each number and you will be refunded the difference. Keep in mind that discounts for each number are consistent for every board and some deals will include discounts on future orders.

They’ve got some cool decks available (all strictly limited editions), and if you aren’t a skater, you could always just hang it on the wall as art.

In a land of doves and picturesque mountains, bad days are hard to come by. Welcome to Dove Mountain. Design also available on a clock.

I love it when artistic blurb gives way to practicalities!

Chris (Joe Dempsie) wearing a Chateau Roux ‘I Heart Hate’ T-shirt on Skins Series 2 Episode 4

Its taken me until now to realise just how great Skins is, I really think that its the best British TV show on at the moment, and I watch a lot of TV, so I must know what I’m talking about. So I was pretty excited when I noticed that Chateau Roux was all over Skins like a rash, and a very sexy rash at that.

I noticed Chris (played by Joe Dempsie, pictured) wearing an ‘I [heart] hate’ tee in the 4th episode and realised that it was from CR, then in episode 5 when Jal (Larissa Wilson) wore a badass looking Chateau necklace (pictured above, with a little box incase you didn’t know what a necklace is) I figured I was compelled to write a post about it. To their credit, the creators of Skins maintain a blog that has a style section on it where people discuss what was worn by who in different episodes, apparently prompted by the volume of request they receive on the subject. They don’t link to where the stuff is purchasable, but it certainly does make things easier in case you are desperate to look like Maxxie or Sid.

*Excuse the pictures, my TV has developed a yellow spot problem with a broken colour tube, and trying to correct the colours in Photoshop made them look a bit funny.*

Both items are available through the Chateau Roux website, and possibly in their retail store at 17 Newburgh Street, London (near Carnaby Street).

Next weekend I’m going to be making the long trek (well, 3 hours on the train) to London for Margin, a streetwear and directional tailoring trade-show being held in central London (February 10th, 11th & 12th). Hopefully I’ll find out about a load of new and exciting brands, so get ready for an invasion of British brands on the blog over the next month or so.I’m going to be down in the big smoke for three days, and presume that I’ll only be at Margin for one day, so I’m throwing my itinerary open to the HYA masses. I’m making up a list of stores that I have to go to. including checking out Concrete Hermit’s latest show, Magma’s Covent Garden Store, the Sunday (Up)Market (note: hangover dependent), the Design Museum, and wherever Yutaka tells me via this excellent website that Virgin seem to have had a hand in.

I guess that makes it look as if I’ve got a pretty busy schedule, but I’d still like a few more tips about great stores that you think I should check out. I’m no stranger to London as my brother lived there for a few years, I know my way around fairly well and I’ve done all the tourist stuff that I want to do, so I’m after interesting off-the-beaten-path type stuff. If you leave a comment or drop me an e-mail and I go there I’ll try and take pics and do some mini-reviews of wherever I’m sent, so if you own a store this could be potentially useful for you too.

Missile hat by Blanck at the Karmaloop Kazbah
Just for a change, I thought we’d kick the day off with a hat. Have no fear, this blog ain’t turning into ‘Hide Your Scalp’ (hey, there’s an idea!), sometimes I just feel the need to hide my increasingly unruly hair.

I really like the use of the rubber print for the missiles and their name (in Helvetica… refreshing), and the way that it mixes with the lighter bit of embroidery. Do karmaloop gift certificates work on the Kazbah? ‘Cos I might have to pick up one of these.

Plus41, who haven’t been on HYA for a long time, have put out a great range called “242 Hubble Serie”, that looks pretty damned incredible. I’ve got no idea what the quality of these pieces is, but I would like to think that the guys over at Plus41 have the ability to translate the beauty of these images into equally beautiful garments. You can check them all out in their column over at Highsnobriety, there’s a couple of really cool looking skateboard decks that I imagine would look pretty fine on my wall.

And when I say hurry up that’s because if you’re buying things to put under brightly-lit highly flammable trees then you’re gonna have to move pretty quick unless you want to be a chump and pay for fast delivery later in the week.

HYA x Mauve Christmas Giveaways: Because of an error on my part (organising a contest when the people involved are eight timezones apart can be a little troublesome), day one of the the Christmas giveaways is actually going to last for two days. The next stage of the competition will be kicking off at 00:01 PST Wednesday 19th December.

Glass Boutique: Who wants a 25% off their order? You? Yes, you! You can get 25% off everything in their store using the coupon code GLASS DEC07 until 21/12/07, which is their last day of posting before they presumably take a well deserved Christmas break.

Threadless: Their Ho-Ho-Holiday sale is being extended until Wednesday 19th December so you’ve got a few more days to pick up what is still a surprisingly large range of tees.

Palmer Cash: Order by Thursday to receive your tees by the 25th. I’m presuming that this message only applies to the mainland US, and that us international people have missed the cut off.

Fred Flare: Today is the last day that you can get free US ground shipping at Fred Flare using the coupon code staffpicks.1207. After that you’re gonna have to pay if you want your bandages that look like bacon to arrive before Chris Cringle does.

Tobi: Are you looking a bit more at the high-end for your gift buying? Tobi are offering free overnight delivery (and free giftwrap) when you spend more than $250 on your order. How on earth do you have free overnight shipping in a country the size of America, isn’t that just a little bit mind-blowing? No coupon code, the discount is automatically applied at checkout, and is valid from now until 5PM (PST) on 21/12/07. Oh, and you can get 25% off full-priced items using the coupon code PERFECTGIFT.

Resist Today: They’ve got 19 one-of-a-kind wallets available that look really-rather-lovely. Christmas order cutoff is Wednesday 19th (US orders only).

Oak Aquarium: This emporium of all things awesome is offering 20% off your order until New Years (I think, the date isn’t totally clear) with the code EGUG6 which needs to be inputted at the discount line during the check out. US orders need to be placed by Tuesday night (December 18th) to have a shot at arriving before Xmas.

Pretty Hammer: A quick note from the PH guys:

We just released some Holiday Cards that are pretty sweet. 5 free with the purchase of any shirt or the cards are also for sale on their own as well.

Random Shirts: Their range of funny tees is available for just $8 a bargain, which is a crazy price point that I can’t see going on for very long. Order by the 19th for Christmas shipping.

Owl Movement: They’ve got new pillows available and their button packs have been restocked.

Spear Talks: Tado: One of my favourite blogs talks to one of my favourite art/illustration duos. No huge revelations, but a fun little interview.

The Quiet Life: A little holiday bonus from the guys at TQL:

Every order placed before Dec. 25th that’s over $75.00 will receive a free QL Camera Club book (vol. 2) and a free Poo Poodles CD. And every order over $100.00 will recieve a free Camera Club book, a free Poo Poodles CD, and a free QL Tshirt.

Threadbanger: Our friends over at Threadbanger have a new episode out, this ones all about hair! (yeah, I know, this ain’t ‘Hide Your Scalp’…)

Bountee gets a forum: I don’t really understand why all t-shirt design competitions don’t have forums in some form or another, it seems like something that would help to create a better feeling of community. It’s pretty bare bones and quiet at the moment as it was only announced a few days ago, but it still seems like a good addition to this increasingly impressive site.

Glarkware: Free shipping on orders over $75
