A blog about hoodies & t-shirts, with news from the independent clothing world

wrongwroks3827.jpg

Ahh, wrongwroks, I don’t necessarily think that everything this Vancouver-based crew do is amazing, but there’s just something about them that intrigues me, I mean seriously, who else would think of making a Swarovski pink panther hoodie?

wrongwrokscarpet-ad.jpg

If you’re a fan of all things Doradimon then this hoodie might be up your street too. They’re using carpet on the blue of the character, which is a pretty cool idea since it gives the piece a bit of texture and innovation.

There’s a load more stuff in the collection, a few tees and quite a few hats (which I think are a far more acceptable place for Swarovski crystals to be found on clothing) which are worth checking out.

Oddica, in their continued commitment to being one of the best labels out there for artists and fans alike, have released all their latest designs as tees, hoodies and polo shirts. I think that’s a great move, I don’t know if they’re going to be doing it for all their future releases, but it gives everyone the choice that they’d like, and nothing feels better than choice. Even though ‘Monkey Business‘ and ‘There Goes the Neighborhood‘ are good designs, ‘Lionize’ (pictured) really has some power to it and is my pick of this current crop from the guys in the Land of Odd.

Costiness=$20 $40 $27 (tee, hoodie & polo, respectively)

Fresh off their article in the New York Times, Attus Apparel have released a fresh round (oh yeah, that’s a pun!) of ‘Shot Up Shirts‘. If you wanna see the shirts being shot up with shotguns, check out this YouTube link. If you wanna see my cousin shooting a pineapple with his shotgun, check out this YouTube link.

*The L and XXL sizes have already sold (there’s only one shirt per size), so be quick placing your order if you want it*

When I read this article on TV Squad I was left with the understanding that a clothing line had been created around one of my favourite shows, HBO’s Entourage, but when I actually look at the items, it looks like fairly standard merchandise. Although the idea of having jeans that are Entourage branded/endorsed seems quite unusual.

vikingquest.jpg

The tees don’t really impress me, the Viking Quest tee doesn’t really capture the spirit of the fake show that I would expect, why does this tee look like a rather lackluster crest tee rather than something that would have actually been worn by the nerdy fans of Viking Quest? And why bother having a tee that says “Let’s hug it out” when everyone who watches the shows knows that the actual quote is “let’s hug it out, bitch”, especially when they have a more accurate, though admittedly not as attractive, tee for sale in the official HBO store.

And $68 a tee? That’s just crazy.

Attus blow stuff up

I wouldn’t normally link to a Youtube video, even if it was hoodie based, but since its the weekend, and since I don’t give Attus the love they deserve, so here they are blowing up their own shirts with fireworks with rather hopeful reasoning that its justified by July 4th celebrations. Remember boys, safety first!

I usually try and let news items build up a bit before I post…. I may well have left things for a bit too long this time, since I’ve got almost a dozen sites/items for you to check out. Also, sorry about not posting on Friday, but when the sun is shining on Cumbria you’ve really got to make the most of it!

Rosa Loves: Very cool idea, even if they don’t spell it out simply enough on the info section of their site. As far as I can tell, tees are designed with certain real life stories as the inspiration, and some of the proceeds from the sale goes towards helping the people in the stories. Whether you’re down with the charity aspect or not, the tees look good, and the web site is nicely designed.

Shirt A Day: I was pretty skeptical of this site at first… when I didn’t understand it. Now I understand, and I like it. Shirts go on sale for one day, and one day only, the more people order the shirt the cheaper it becomes, at the end of the day everyone pays the final price (so everyone pays the lowest price in the end). Tees are then typically printed and shipped out in 4 days. The designs I saw were pretty good, although I guess they can be quite adventurous with their designs since don’t print up tees before they’re on the site, so they’ll have no stock lying around if they offer a lemon of a design.

Planet Truth: I’m not sure how much more environmentally friendly organic tees are compared to regular ones, but they probably use less water and chemicals (I think I read that in WorldChanging, not sure), and Planet Truth have some decent designs, so do your conscience a favour and check them out.

Oddica Hoodie Blowout: One of my favourite online stores are selling off their hoodies cheap for the rest of the month, I can testify that they’re nicely made and printed, so buy with confidence.

Imperfect Articles: Hands on review of them coming up sometimes next week (tomorrow, probably) but I like their designs so much that I thought I’d give them a mention anyway.

Aloha Victory: Only a small collection of tees at the moment but very cool all the same, some with a slightly retro vibe. I know what you’re thinking, they’re Hawaiian, nope, Florida. Yeah, I thought that was weird too. Oh yeah, they offer free shipping, yay!

AMP Street: Some fantastic designs from this Bangkok outfit, definitely worth a click and a few minutes of your time. I know it’s not exactly my area of expertise, but their bags look pretty cool. I’m very impressed with these guys, can’t wait to see what else they do.

Human Empire: Yeah, I’ve mentioned them before, but they e-mailed me and I was reminded just how good their designs were, how’s about you get reminded too?

Rote Raupe*: I’d never heard of Rote Raupe before, probably because I don’t speak German, but I really like this little project they’ve got going. Every three months they’re going to release a limited edition t-shirt by some of their favourite artists. In December it was Yack Fou, who I’ve mentioned a few times before, and this month it’s Human Empire, who I mentioned a couple of sentences ago. Hmmm, an indie website releasing clothes by their favourite designers, now there’s a thought…

[2 one 5] sale: Everything in the branded collection is down to $20.

Danger Russ: Fresh off having a design printed by Threadless as both a tee, a hoodie, and even baked as a cake, Taylor isn’t resting on his laurels, he’s trying to shift some of his old hoodies that were previously HYA mentioned, and offering a Threadless Gift Certificate contest as a sweetener on the deal. Click through to have it explained in a much better way.

Crooked Monkey: I know some people groan when they hear the term ‘funny college shirts’, and I would count myself among those people, but I must say that Crooked Monkey are of a higher quality than most, they’ve actually got some original ideas, and you wouldn’t be ashamed letting your mother wash them (which is always a big consideration for me!).

C&C California Faded Tunic

CCCA-WD42_V1.jpg

Ok, I’m not exactly going to be adding a ‘tunic’ category to the sidebar, but I thought you might appreciate a change of pace.

Whilst I do think this looks nice, I’m really struggling to think of a decent description, so I’m afraid that you’re going to have to make do with this rather boring bit of blurb:

• Color - Faded Black
• 100% cotton
• Slit sides
• Open V front with hood
• Drawstring babydoll seam

And yes, two hot models in two days, shoot me.

There’s a lot of good tee and clothes blogs out there, so I thought that instead of me writing a little bit of blurb about news items that aren’t about hoodies I’d just point you at what some other people think.

Ichabods: Some seriously good designs from New Orleans, they have a decent range of hoodies so I’ll be giving them a better look later. [see what the Tcritic had to say]

Owl Movement: Nico gives you the lowdown on Owl Movements new releases.

Click Tees: No idea how/where you buy these but they sure do look good. [via DESIGNSPOTTER]

Fantastic Bonanza: These guys have some schweeeet looking tees, and Nico has a good hands on review of their, ummm, goods.

SALES!: Rangga over at T-Shirt Island has a looooong list of stores with holiday sales, I’m sure the last day of posting has past now, but you can still get savings for yourself.

Azalea Online: A very comprehensive store that caters towards the higher end of the fashion market. Expect to see a few picks from here in the coming weeks. [via Josh Spear]

Imaginary Foundation: HipHipUK mentions yet more stunning work from the Swiss people who seem to operate on a level above me. Adam makes a good point though, it’s art, but would you wear it?

Indie Clothing Blog
: You know how long I spent thinking up ‘Hide Your Arms’? Hours, why didn’t I just call it ‘Sleeved Clothing Blog’, then you’d know what you were getting. My tongue-in-cheek bitchy comments aside, this blog is a good resources for anyone thinking of gettin in the tee printing game.

Tagged: Jason has a good rundown of the ruckus that went down at Threadless when they accidentally made a tee from unoriginal work. Seriously, if I ripped someone that badly at uni I’d have been thrown out.

Now don’t forget about Andy when you’re reading different clothes blogs (I promise a hoodie later tonight)!

scouthoodeddress.jpg

I know it’s getting colder and that dresses aren’t really a warm option in December (y’know, if you’re in the best hemisphere!), but when I found this hoodie/dress on Stylehive I thought it was really cool, even if I personally wouldn’t wear it, mostly because I don’t like to wear white…

I for one think this is pretty innovative, it’s safe to presume that someone has made a dress with a hood before, but I ain’t seen one, and this has a bit of design flair to it, like the, ahem, flared sleeves. Despite what I said about it perhaps being a bit cool for a dress, the designers disagree, proclaiming that it’s “the perfect layer with boots for fall!” But I guess you can where whatever you want whenever you want when you live in LA.

Attention all sneaker freaks

I wouldn’t normally do this, but everyone’s best friend (google) isn’t helping me and I thought that you guys would probably know more about buying sneakers online than I do.

I’m trying to find a pair of Vans XL2’s (they might have Rowley and/or Slims in the name) in navy, grey & white, in a UK size 10 or 11 (which is US size 11 or 12). I wouldn’t usually buy the same pair of shoes, but I really like these ones (my current pair are worn through to the foam, so I can’t wear them anywhere that might be damp) and they’re really comfortable too, and I have dodgy ankles so comfort is a major factor to me.

So if anyone knows where I find a pair that would be awesome. Also, if you want to enlighten me and suggest some sites that have some good sneakers on them, comment away.

*Aha! The reason why I can’t find them is because the XLIII version is out… These ones look pretty much like what I have now, but I’d still love to get some feedback about good online shoe stores*
