American Dad Newspaper Headline

Ahh, too truer words have never been said, people that I meet always think that they’ve had a great idea for a t-shirt (a lot of people think I make or sell t-shirts, not just write about them), and they’re usually lame, so I have to smile politely and nod to spare their feelings. Clearly this isn’t just a UK issue, as shown by this newspaper headline from the title sequence of American Dad (season 3, episode 13 for those of you that are interested).

MILF Island t-shirt from NBC

I know I’m pretty late posting this, we Brits don’t usually get American shows for a while after they’ve aired (although The Daily Show and Colbert Report are only on a one-day delay, thankfully), but I’m a fan of 30 Rock and whilst I wouldn’t buy this tee (over-priced, and slightly offensive to all but the tiny minority of people in the UK that watch 30 Rock) I think its really cool that NBC actually sell items from fictional TV shows that have appeared in their own shows, in fact, of the 9 items of apparel in the 30 Rock mini store only 2 pieces have the boring show logo on them, the rest are just things from the show, like the Sheinhardt Wig company or the Tracy Jordan Meat Machine (”Meat is the new bread!”), which I guess makes a lot of sense since only fans of the show are going to buy this stuff, and they’re going to understand what all the quotes and jokes on the tees are about.

Chris (Joe Dempsie) wearing a Chateau Roux ‘I Heart Hate’ T-shirt on Skins Series 2 Episode 4

Its taken me until now to realise just how great Skins is, I really think that its the best British TV show on at the moment, and I watch a lot of TV, so I must know what I’m talking about. So I was pretty excited when I noticed that Chateau Roux was all over Skins like a rash, and a very sexy rash at that.

I noticed Chris (played by Joe Dempsie, pictured) wearing an ‘I [heart] hate’ tee in the 4th episode and realised that it was from CR, then in episode 5 when Jal (Larissa Wilson) wore a badass looking Chateau necklace (pictured above, with a little box incase you didn’t know what a necklace is) I figured I was compelled to write a post about it. To their credit, the creators of Skins maintain a blog that has a style section on it where people discuss what was worn by who in different episodes, apparently prompted by the volume of request they receive on the subject. They don’t link to where the stuff is purchasable, but it certainly does make things easier in case you are desperate to look like Maxxie or Sid.

*Excuse the pictures, my TV has developed a yellow spot problem with a broken colour tube, and trying to correct the colours in Photoshop made them look a bit funny.*

Both items are available through the Chateau Roux website, and possibly in their retail store at 17 Newburgh Street, London (near Carnaby Street).

Of Salad and Friends by Glarkware

Let’s file this under ‘I’m really sorry I didn’t post this one earlier’, because I’m afraid that it was a limited edition pre-order (until Feb. 29th) and won’t be going on general sale, so we’ve all missed our chance. I thought it was still worth a look, even if it was just so that I could evoke a few Simpsons memories for you guys (conga line!). But hey, at least we get the treat of Glarkware’s typically enjoyable blurbage:

Planning the menu for a dinner party these days is like walking through a minefield. Chances are that your guest list will include someone with severe food allergies; someone on an exotically restricted diet; a vegetarian; a vegan; someone who only eats raw; someone who only eats organic; and someone who keeps kosher. The odds that everyone will be able to partake of every dish are extremely slim. But lest you try to please the entire group with one lowest-common-denominator meal, don’t forget: you don’t win friends with salad.

I remember a few months ago when I was watching this episode of BBC2s ‘Mock the Week’ (I never miss is, thanks Sky+!) that I could have sworn I’d seen the t-shirt being worn by Russel Howard before. Incidentally, if you don’t know who Russel Howard is, you should, he’s a very funny man and a real up-and-comer in the UK standup world, there’s lots of his stuff on YouTube, or if you aren’t a fan of copyright infringement, try his own website. Back to the tee, I had seen it before, on EIOs website, as its part of their marvelous Autumn/Winter07 collection.

Even if usually when I watch Mythbusters I spend half my time picking apart their methodology (Andy doesn’t understand the trade off between good science and good television), I am a really huge fan of it, and when I was sent an e-mail from the maker of the above tee being worn by every geeks fantasy woman, Kari Byron, I couldn’t help myself but give it a mention.

It was featured pretty prominently in their recent season finale, in which the team ’supersized’ previous myths, and the Junior team (Kari, Tory and Grant) were charged with finding out whether a car would fly over if it drove behind a jet (it did, big time). Sure, this had been done by the British show Top Gear several years ago, but not whilst one of the presenters was wearing a cool tee!

The tee comes from a small tee label based in Lincoln, Nebraska, called Craze One who only have a few designs, but they’re pretty darned impressive, although not all as badass as the tee above.

I think we’ve covered in the past how often I’m disappointed by the quality of official merchandise for TV shows and movies, even pointing out my disappointment with some of Entourage’s merchandise. So I was pleasantly surprised when I saw this post on Uncrate pointing me towards this shirt for the fictional movie Medellin from the TV show Entourage. I like the way that it doesn’t mention Entourage or HBO on the tee anywhere, giving it some nudge-nidge-wink-wink credibility. And kudos to HBO on not going with a standard across the chest placement too.

Even though ‘The Chaser’s War on Everything’ is an Australian show and has a lot of Aussie-centric content, I still really like it, although for some reason I often find myself wanting to see the “Hey you, person I just freaked out, you’re on TV!” bits of their skits that are the premise of so many candid camera TV shows that I don’t enjoy (I found myself watching India’s #1 candid camera show today… terrible!). I also think its interesting that the cast, who do some pretty shameful stuff, can still have more credibility than most of the people that they’re lampooning.

One of the guys on the show (Craig Reaucassel) has a bit of a habit of wearing some pretty cool tees, and like a man with cotton-based OCD I found myself compelled to find them. Luckily, both of the ones I recognised turned up at Defunker, possibly the most sober of the CollegeHumor frathouse of sites (or Connected Ventures if you want to ruin my fun analogy). If anyone could tip me off to the original creators of the tees then I’d appreciate it since I don’t think these are in-house designs.

After last weeks 7 tee marathon, The IT Crowd took things easier with an episode that took place over the course of one day in TV time, which meant no wardrobe changes for Roy, and resulted in me finding the tee before the credits had even rolled on the sixth and final episode of the second series.

It’s quite a cool tee, if that’s your sort of thing, I like the size of the graphic and the colours are pretty complimentary, although I’m not really a fan of the text that’s on the back (”Guns don’t kill people magic missiles do”) since it takes this tee from having a bit of 8-bit charm to being straight up nerdy, but I guess that if you’re buying tees from J!NX then you’ve accepted your geeky fate already.

The tee that Roy is wearing in the episode appears to be slightly lighter than the one on the product page, suggesting that its from the now discontinued ‘forest green’ colourway (available in 2XL and small till they run out I guess), but you can buy the same design in the slightly darker ‘deep forest’ colourway.

So, are there any other shows you guys think I should be tracking?

I knew it! I knew I’d be able to cram Halo 3 into my posts this week!

HYA’s copy of H3 is on pre-order so I guess it won’t be turning up tomorrow on the European release date, so we’ll have to wait a while before you all kick my ass on multiplayer, but thanks to Toby at Public Domain I can capitalise on the Halo mania and show you pictures of quite possibly the whitest teeth in Hollywood. Seriously, Zac Efron must spend more time in front of the mirror than… a mirror salesman, who buys his suits at the toilet store.

Anyway, Zac Efron was spotted at a Halo 3 launch event wearing a tee by Public Domain that still isn’t available on their site, but I thought it was worth a mention since I reviewed the tee a few months ago. Fans of PDC should keep their eyes out for their designs in the massively-hyped Chuck on NBC.
