A blog about hoodies & t-shirts, with news from the independent clothing world

I’m really becoming a fan of funnel collars and hoods, they make you feel so much warmer, and you look pretty damn cool in the process, which is always a plus!

Other than the funnel collar, this is actually a pretty simple hoodie, apart from the rather odd addition of making this a short sleeved sweatshirt. I’m not really a fan of the way that they’ve dealt with those sleeves, the bunched up, elasticated hem just seems a bit lazy to me.

Hicalorie’s illustrative designs push my buttons every time I see them. The whole “Pow! Now 33% undercooked” doesn’t really make all that much sense to me, I guess its just a silly slogan, but the illustration is juuuusssttt sooooo cuuuuuute!

I’m keeping this super quick since I’m far too busy making sandwiches with Christmas in themb and gorging myself on the 18lbs of Japanese food that my brother had imported for me (hurrah for wasabi roasted peas!), but sales are sales and I’m sure some of you got cash for Chrimbo and there’s no better way to spend it than on clothes!

Design By Humans: Everyone else has already reported it, but from now until the end of the year, enter the discount code DBHFAM during the checkout process and you’ll receive a rather handsome 35% off your order.

Lazy Oaf: I didn’t realise until now that LO had a bricks-and-mortar store, but… they do (Lazy Oaf, Kingly Court, Carnaby Street, London, W1B 5PW if you realllllly want to know) and they’ve got a sale kicking off tomorrow, tees from £10, sweatshirts from £25, and the sale with be coming to their online store on January 2nd, which is very forgiving for those of us that will be extremely hungover.

Red Lotus Clothing got in touch, looks good.

A tee site called Monkey Fist launched recently.

Our friends over at Concrete Hermit have taken their social network out of closed beta and gone public, make friends with me here, there’s lots of people on there that are far more interesting than me, so have a nose around.

Thanks to the guys at Pyknic for introducing themselves, and I’ve noticed that for every shirt of theirs that you buy until December 31st they will donate a shirt to charity, way to get in the spirit!

Our friends at Bean Dip have dropped a couple of New Era fitted hats, not really my thing, but I have faith that they know a lot more about the New Era world than I do.

Wrongwroks have an Xmas themed beanie for sale, as well as more stuff with Kate Moss adorning it.

Two new shirts are available at Kotton.de

Wasabi
dropped some new product a few days ago.

That should just about do it for now, the winners of the HYA x Mauve sweepstakes are coming up in a few minutes, after which I don’t intend to do any more blogging until 2008, unless something major comes up. So thanks a lot for reading, e-mailing, sending me samples, linking, and commenting this year, HYA wouldn’t nearly be as interesting for me as it is if it wasn’t for you guys. Have a great time over the rest of the holiday period, stay safe, and remember, there’s no such thing as calories at Christmas!

Not often that we run a sweatshirt around these parts, but this one is a real beauty, with a great detailed print with a subtle colourway. Printed on American Apparel by the looks of that tag.

Sorry I didn’t catch this when it was just €29 as part of their Cheap Friday’s promotion last week, but it still looks just as good even with a higher price tag.

It’s nice to see this placed on the left of the sweatshirt, I don’t think I would have been quite so enthralled with it if it had a standard middle print placement.

Heads up, I’m very tenuously keeping my reporting French-stuff theme going by reporting that Portland-based outfit Monsieur T. have released the first part of their Fall/Winter line. I’m blatantly going to be writing about the hoodie on the right of the above pic so please pretend to be surprised when it pops up on the site later next week.

Monsieur T.

That’s not exactly a whole lot more information I can give you beyond the headline. Here’s the link. Maybe 25% off will make their shipping prices more palatable. Oh, and this one is just for the men, sorry ladies.

As I’m sure you know, there’s only six days until International Talk Like A Pirate Day (September 19th for those reading this in a very different timezone), so if you aren’t going to go the whole hog and dress up like Jack Sparrow, you can probably still have this sweatshirt at your door in time to get in on the pirate fun.

If you get the point of this sweater before you read the blurb then congratulations to you, you are far smarter than I am.

“Back in the day the letter A began as a pictogram illustrating the head and horns of an Ox.

The Phoenicians wrote right to left writing the A sideways as it was quicker. The Greeks generally wrote left to right, so turned the A around. There was a point way back when a system was used called ‘Boustrophedon’ which translates ‘as the Ox ploughs’ so first A went left to right, second A right to left, and so on.

Around 500 BC writing became standardized and letters stopped changing direction. The Ox finally settled on its horns.”

Pretty darned clever design, right guys?

When I hear the word ‘aloha’, I immediately think of Hawaii. So quite naturally (I presumed), when I found out about Aloha Victory I thought I’d be checking out some designs from the land of grass skirts and drinks served in coconut shells. Oh, how wrong I was, Aloha Victory are actually based in Florida, but when I actually take a look at this design, both the Hawaiian and Floridian (is that even a word?) aspects are quite apparent.

av1.jpg

And when I say apparent, I mean it has both coconuts (Hawaii) and a space shuttle (Kennedy Space Center) on it. I know I probably should have picked up on that the second I pulled the tee out of it’s envelope, but I thought it was a pretty cool way to give a nod to both the geography and the spirit of Aloha Victory. I really like this design, all the elements seem to work so well together, the ‘A’ and ‘V’ that sit on either side of the space shuttle are a really nice touch. One of my favourite aspects of the design is the way that they’ve really brought a sense of perspective to it, which isn’t usually a feature of most tee designs.

av6.jpg

The print feels like quality, whilst I’m still not entirely sure about inks, I think that it is printed with plastisol ink, whatever it is, I think its printed to last. The stock tee is a Hanes Beefy T, and I do believe that its the first I’ve received since starting HYA. The Beefy T is, as the name suggests, a bit thicker than a standard tee, and the cut is a bit boxier than a standard American Apparel tee, it still feels pretty soft though, and I would imagine that it’ll last pretty well with it being a little bit thicker.
