Miss World t-shirt

Its a bit of a pity that the product picture of this tee actually shows the packaging, lovely though it is, rather than the t-shirt itself. I think, think, that the tee is meant to look like a glittery winners sash from the Miss World competition. I like the theory, I like the execution, I like the fact it comes in one size fits all (fits all Miss Worlds, presumably) and I like the blurb, which is actually an odd bio for one of the designers (Ivan Duval):

1967 NOT MY CHOICE, BUT FRANCE IS A GOOD PLACE TO BE BORN. ONLY CHILD.
1968-85 ?
1986 ADVERTISING SCHOOL.
1988 WORKS IN SMALL ADVERTISING AGENCY.
1988 MEETS JEAN SÉBASTIEN.
1989 FIRST COLLABORATION WITH JEAN SÉBASTIEN, MAKES OBJECTS WITH PLANE PARTS.
1989 FIREMAN FOR 1 YEAR
1990 SPENDS 3 MONTHS IN NEW YORK, DOING EVERYTHING AND NOTHING.
1990 WORKS IN ANOTHER SMALL ADVERTISING AGENCY.
1991 MEETS LOVE.
1990 WORKS IN ANOTHER SMALL ADVERTISING AGENCY.
1992 WORKS IN BIG ADVERTISING AGENCY. FINALLY.
1997 FIRST AND LAST EXHIBITION AS A PAINTER.
1999 QUITS ADVERTISING.
1999 STARTS ATYPYK.
1999 DAD FOR THE FIRST TIME. TWO LITTLE BOYS (TWINS).
2003 LOOKING FOR A NEW PLACE TO LIVE WITH MY FAMILY. PARIS DISTRICT 10.
2004 FINALLY FOUND THE NICEST FLAT IN THE WORLD.
2005 ATYPYK TAKES OVER THE US
2007 LOOKING AGAIN FOR A NEW PLACE TO LIVE WITH MY FAMILY. PARIS DISTRICT 10. ANYONE ?

Odd, but its a bit more interesting than most bios you read. No word on price, but you can make an enquiry at the link if you would like to buy one.

*Ivan got in touch to say thanks for the post, and also sent over a picture of the tee being worn, it certainly looks better on a blonde model than in a plastic wrapper!

Here’s another tee from the ‘I found it on Flickr, it has an “all rights reserved” copyright, but I like it and hope that the author won’t be too pissed about me posting’.I don’t know if its for sale, from the looks of things the uploader is a graphic designer so I think this tee might be a mock-up rather than a real product, though looking at his blog there are quite a few submissions to design competitions like DBH and Threadless, so maybe we’ll see this popping up somewhere at some point (vague much?). Wyel does have a cool looking portfolio site though that you’ll probably enjoy perusing.

Tees with a positive message have usually seemed a bit lame to me, but this one from Print Liberation has forced me to re-evaluate my position on t-shirts that. I guess it isn’t actually a positive message, its more of a lemons/lemonade kinda deal, but still. I really like the way that they’ve thrown the type all over the tee, and put the arrows some of the letters to reinforce the message of how different decisions can change your life.Costiness=$22 Link

Ice Wizard by Seibei

David has put up a few new items and colourways into the Seibei store… rejoice!

The first thing to get refreshed is the Ice Wizard hoodie (which I first reviewed back in March last year) which is now available in a ‘Red Baron‘ colourway of red/white, and a there is also the ‘Blockhead edition‘ for those of you that have a yearning to look like a bumblebee. The new hoodies have drawstrings that match the vinyl trim colours too, which is cool because I know that there had been a problem with sourcing decent coloured drawstrings in the past.

I like to say stuff and eat things by Seibei

I like to say stuff and eat things” has been completely reworked and looks awesome, I really love the gradient print and putting it on a striped tee is a bold move, but I think it works pretty well.
Superpredators by Seibei

I can’t remember if ‘Superpredators’ is new or not, it might be the case that it has just been a work-in-progress for such a long time that I just presumed it had made its way into the store at some point. Either way, its a massive dinosaur on a t-shirt, and that can’t be a bad thing. [available in Mint or Pink]
Fierce by Seibei

Last but not least, there’s Fierce, which involves a three-headed dog wearing a gold chain, about to eat some diamonds… naturally.

Conspiracy Definition by WeSC @ Karmaloop

Am I the only one who hates it when people giving awards at ceremonies walk up to the podium and say “Webster’s dictionary defines a hero as…” and you groan because its just such incredibly lame script writing?

This tee, on the other hand, isn’t lame at all (except for the little WeSC logo underneath the definition, we all know that an indie producer would have kept things pure). I like the idea of a word definition on a t-shirt, and the style in which WeSC have done this one is an excellent example of what I’d have in mind when imagining it.

We Are the People We’ve Been Waiting For by Ban T-shirts

I wrote about this t-shirt ten days ago, and then it turned up in the mail a couple of days ago, so I’m going to ask again, Ferrari, if you want me to review an Enzo, I’ll gladly have one for the weekend. You have eight days to respond!

For those of you that are unaware, the slogan on this tee comes from a speech made by Democratic Presidential hopeful Barack Obama, and even though it isn’t mentioned explicitly, I think that the quote clearly relates to his sounds-nice-but-doesn’t-mean-a-thing messages of ‘hope’ and ‘change’. When I first wrote about this tee a commenter, Carl, said that the design was lacking since there was so much wasted space. At the time I thought that Carl might be right, especially as we all know that huge type looks sweet, but now that I’ve had it in my hands I feel a bit different, the size feels about right, perhaps not having it dominate the shirt is meant to make the message seem a bit calmer and less shouty than it would with a large type tee? Also, I really like the use of a full stop to try and reinforce the message.
We Are the People We’ve Been Waiting For by Ban T-shirts

This is an organic tee from American Apparel’s ‘Sustainable Edition‘, which presumably means that the cotton plants get massages just like the AA employees famously do. This is actually the first AA organics tee I’ve received, and I must say I’m impressed, it feels pretty much the same as a regular AA tee, which I guess is what you want, no reduction in quality whilst producing an environmentally conscientious product. I don’t know how they last through various washings, so if anyone has experience with them I’d appreciate an opinion. Print is fairly thick, I think its plastisol ink.Costiness=$18.50 Link

This is most definitely the best shirt I’ve seen in my entire life… and I think that you would look soooooo great wearing it!

You know what’s hard to write on the internet? Sarcasm. Which is unfortunate, since almost everything said in blog comments and on forums is said sarcastically. It might just be me, I dunno, but whenever I write something sarcastic it just makes me sound mean, so I have to preface it with *The is sarcasm*, which takes the sting out of the blow somewhat.

Still, even if text t-shirts tend to get the cold shoulder in HYA, I like this one, it raised a smile, and can you really put a price on happiness? Oh, sorry, apparently you can, $16.95… I think I’ll stick with depression, thanks.
