A blog about hoodies & t-shirts, with news from the independent clothing world

HYA System Upgrade

Laptop maintenance the easy way, originally uploaded by bitrot.

Just quick warning that there’s no need to e-mail me if the blog looks crazy for the next hour or so, I’m upgrading the laugably out-dated version of Wordpress that I run to their latest stable build. I’m also using this opportunity for the first time to try posting from Flickr to Hide Your Arms, so if this post looks wrong, also no need to e-mail me.

*Update: All done, hopefully nothing is broken, if it is, please let me know*

I feel like a salmon…

… because I always seem to be flaking on you!

There’s no (real) post tonight or tomorrow because I’m heading down to the Midlands for a wedding tomorrow and I’ve got to be up early tomorrow for the 170 mile drive.

But I promise I will have an absolute doozy of a hoodie for you on Monday, and there should be a hands-on review next week, and possibly even an interview, so whilst the weekend may be starting early at HYA, next week should be awesome.

Bienvenue a St Tropez

I feel like everything on HYA has been a bit disjointed for the past month or so, what with the week of downtime, then switching to a new host, so its pretty unfortunate that just as I’m back into the rhythm of blogging I’m going to go on holiday.

As the title suggests I’m heading to the South of France and I’ll be gone until next Saturday and don’t expect to go near a computer (I may well suffer from internet withdrawal), so the next post will be on July 10th, unless I’m really hungover from celebrating England winning the World Cup the day before. The second half of that sentence may well end up looking stupid, lets hope not.

So check the links for other tee and clothes sites, and if you feel like helping to fund my mission to impress French girls by pretending to be astoundingly rich then there’s plenty of affiliate links on the links page too!

Get the water from the source

My internet is being very slow and silly today (where’ve all the images on the internet gone?), but I couldn’t bear to think of you all going without advice from your preacher of hoods, so check out my del.icio.us for a load of fresh links that I’ll be using over the next few weeks.

I think that after about 10 hours of trying, retrying, deleting, being impatient and drinking I’ve managed to move HYA to a new server, and it should all be working the same as this morning, except possibly faster and more reliably.

Thanks for being patient, maybe now things can get focused back on the stuff that matters. Hoodies, track jackets and onesies!

I suck and you know it

We’re back, y’all!

After the longest amount of downtime (5ish days) I’ve experienced since I started blogging back in 2003 on Blogger, my host has moved me to a new server. I’d like to make it clear I’m not annoyed at my host, he’s a good guy and something went wrong during an upgrade of server software. It happens. The ads don’t seem to have transferred during the server move, I’m sure you’re all crying for me over that one ;-) (ewww emoticons).

I’m sure that I’ve lost a few readers, and with fair justification, I’d probably forget about a website if it was offline for a week, so hopefully they’ll come back, but thanks to those of you who have messaged me to ask whats up, and thanks to TEEES for getting the message out that I hadn’t abandoned hoodies (even though it is summer).

There’s some cool stuff coming up, like a hands on review of Oddica (check out some pics on my Flickr), and what will now be a bit of an outdated Cotton Filter.

*UPDATE* I should have added that on Saturday and Monday I have my final university exams, so obviously they are going to be taking precedence over my blogging duties, but everything should be back to normal by Tuesday, I apologise for the future inconvenience, but I’m sure you all know the stress of exams.

So So Sorry

For someone that finds themselves pretty net literate I’ve made a bit of a howler…

I just activated the Akismet anti-spam software for this blog after testing it out on another blog of mine, and it said I had a load of spam comments to filter. Which I thought was odd, because this blog hadn’t got a single comment for a couple of months (I just thought you guys were real quiet). Upon looking at the list of spam it was pretty much 50/50 real comments vs. spam comments. So I must apologise for not replying to all the comments that people have left, but I simply didn’t know that they existed. One guy even put a link to the elusive Aiko hoodie! And Teees has been giving fairly regular comment upon my choices too.

Sorry again guys, hopefully it won’t happen again in the future.

I accidentally deleted the links page, including all those affiliate links that everyone loves (they’re good stores, I swear!).

I’ve re-written it from memory as best I can, but I’ve got a feeling that I’ve missed off some of the selected stores. If you think you were on there (or you want to be on there) could you please drop me an e-mail and I’ll try and get things back on track.

Hiyar tastes good

I’m thinking that Hiyar may well be my new TomKat-esque name for Hide Your Arms. So get used to it, though it may be dropped at any time (i.e. when I realise it’s silly).

I’ve set up a del.icio.us account for Hide Your Arms, and whenever I find something that I might use in the future I’m going to tag it to my account. This way you can get a sneak-peek into what you might see in the coming weeks, the stuff that didn’t quite make the cut, and a few non-clothes related links, since I’m not that cotton obsessed. If you don’t like my writing but you like my choices, then this could be a good option for you; seriously, I’m almost telling you not to visit the site!

Those of you clever enough to use RSS will be able to get my del.icio.us RSS feed to simplify the process even further.

Link: HideYourArms.com is del.icio.us (what predictable link-titling…)

P.S. whilst we’re talking social bookmarking thanks to the two people out there that added Hiyar to their list, all exposure is appreciated, and the same goes for Unled.

Sorry hoody hunters…

I’m feeling ill today (touch of the glandular fever methinks, that’s mono to you Americans), and I don’t feel like trawling the net for a hoody right now.

I’ll try and post something over the weekend to try and get things back on track, but hopefully normal service will be resumed on Monday.

Just so that your trip here today wasn’t a total bust, check out this video mashup that VH1 did using the Oprah interviews James Frey and Tom Cruise.
