airside pop up shop

Join us at Airside Studios, 339 Upper Street, Islington N1 0PB.

Friday 23rd April: 11am-8pm
Saturday 24th April: 11am-4pm

Airside Shop is clearing out all our old stock ahead of the forthcoming online shop re-launch, so head down to our studios on 23rd and 24th April for two days of music, chat and bargains galore.

It may be your last chance to get your hands on our current range of limited edition t-shirts and prints. T-shirts will be starting at £5, with prints going for as low as £10. Plus you can get copies of our book Airside by Airside, and other great Airside products at discount rates.

Airside: The Pop-Up Shop will also feature the reopening of the Airside Tattoo Parlour, and there will also be lucky dips, prize draws, cakes and refreshments – including our infamous Air-Cider.

So get on over to N1 for this not-to-be-missed live extravagansa. Oh, and bring cash.

Apparently the Airside crew suffered a major bit of hacking on their store a few months back (all customer details were safe, but they were sent spam), so they took the shop off their site as a safety precaution. During that time they decided to turn lemons into lemonade and redesign and relaunch the store, but to precipitate this event they apparently feel the need to clear out old stock which means some cheap tees for people in London, pity I’m missing out on it, if only I didn’t live 300 miles away!

airsideclub Airsides T Shirt Club sticks with the best

It’s another year for Airside T-shirt Club and this time it’s our 10th anniversary. To celebrate we asked three of the most popular designers from our ten year history to join Fred Deakin in creating new t-shirts exclusively for T-shirt Club members. Fred is joined by Michael Gillette, Shoboshobo and Ian Stevenson and we’re really looking forward to see what they’ll come up with.

I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone that doesn’t like Airside, granted, I don’t ask everyone I meet if they like Airside, but still, you get my point… they’re good. Also, at £99 for 4 tees over the year (plus an exclusive poster, and exclusive discount offers throughout the year), it’s fairly good value… y’know, for a British company.

it crowd s3e2 pixelated kermit t shirt3 The IT Crowd Season 3 Episode 2: Kermit, Japanese schoolgirls & Firefighters

Episode 2 was a bit tougher than the season opener because of that damned pixelated Kermit the Frog tee, but I did find it eventually, so all is good. Pretty funny episode too, I loved that when I was in the pub on Sunday watching the Arsenal game (between furious bouts of shopping in Manchester) we came scarily close to having the same football conversation as they did in the show, even though none of the people I was with watch The IT Crowd.

Anyway, back to the matter at hand, the pixelated/censored Kermit the Frog ‘Witness Protection Program’ t-shirt is made by Chunk, who do lots of retro/pop culture tees, but it isn’t available on their website. I’ve only been able to find it for sale at Urban Outfitters for the rather ludicrous price of £28. I was about to go on a rant about UO and their prices now, but I’ve just noticed that Chunk sell other Witness Protection tees (with characters like Batman & Superman on them) on their own site for £24.95, so I can’t get too annoyed with ‘hipster mecca’ this time around.

Next up was a tee that I recognised immediately, as it is a bit of a classic in the world of indie tees. The t-shirt with the Japanese schoolgirl getting shot on it is an homage to Battle Royale, the fantastic, and fantastically violent Japanese film, and is made by Airside. The tee is also worn by Roy in Channel 4′s press material for the show. This one will set you back £24.95, which is pretty much par for the course in Britain, sorry Americans. Buy it here.

The third and final tee that Roy wore on the show was one I already knew about as well, which probably suggests that I do spend a bit too much looking at t-shirts, as I knew that those firefighters were the work of Derek over at Enclothe. It’s nice to see a friend of the blog getting some great exposure on a TV show watched by millions of people here in the UK. The tee is called 451, which is a reference to Fahrenheit 451 (I think), and I’m not sure if it was intentional, but the idea of a guy who works in IT wearing a t-shirt about the temperature that paper/books burn at is very cool. It costs $19 and can be bought here.
