Barack Obama T-shirt by Thriving Ink

Thriving Ink, who spend most of their time producing some really rather beautiful illustrative tees, have collaborated with AJ Dimarucot to produce a line of t-shirts all about Barack Obama that they’ve called ‘Hope is Dope’. Its amazing just how many brands are producing designs and lines about the man who has Hope, I wonder if people will still proudly be wearing them in a years time, or perhaps Diesel Sweeties have hit the nail on the head?

I don’t want to force my politics on anyone, but when I found out that John McCain pandered to voters by saying he condemned any remarks that were “anti-anything” I lost rather a lot of respect for him, so I got off the fence went for Obama, which is lucky for me, because there are loads more Obama tees out there than McCain ones. Although McCain’s supporters probably don’t do t-shirts, they probably knit wool sweaters for him (I’m saying he’s old, that seems to get laughs).

I can’t work out where “Barack’n the free world” was first used… by which I of course mean I googled it and didn’t immediately find it, then got bored and ate some strawberries (’tis the season!). I guess it doesn’t really matter where the phrase came from (a Neil Young song, btw), if you wear it people know who is going to be getting your vote in November, and it doing that in a good looking way is just the cherry on top of the political sundae.

Quality is impressive. The stock tee is American Apparel, which most of you guys will have an experience of, I can’t tell you what this particular one feels like because whilst I have lost a few pounds (okay, about 50) over the past 18 months, I can’t quite squeeze myself into a girls small tee yet… or presumably ever. The print is really soft, its so soft I actually had to double check that it wasn’t flock print, so I think its fair to say that KosherHam have got printing down pretty well.

Kat, of T-shirts Around the Internet fame, has written a great post about Obama shirts on the ‘net that don’t suck, in fact, they’re the opposite of suck, they’re good!

One that she’s missing (perhaps on purpose) is ‘We Are the People We’ve Been Waiting For’ by Ban T-shirts that I reviewed back at the end of March/

Mike Norman thinks that Barack Obama looks like a monkey…

I’ve just realised that none of my tee blogging brethren have gone near this story, which probably means I should steer clear too, but if its on a t-shirt and its news then I think I should at the very least alert you to its presence. Basically, a tavern owner in Georgia thought it was a good idea to produce a t-shirt which had Curious George, a cartoon chimp for those of you that are unaware, on it with the slogan “Obama in ‘08″ written underneath. The Bar owner, Mike Norman, claims that he doesn’t mean any offence with the t-shirts, and that he just thought that the monkey and Senator Obama looked alike. He’s still selling the t-shirts (who on Earth would buy one?), but the owners of Curious George (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt) aren’t particularly happy about their image being used in such a way, so whilst free speech ensures this guy can create such a t-shirt, copyright law will probably mean that he can’t do so for very long.

I saw this tee and laughed, I think that’s enough to make it worthy of a post. I’m a sucker for mashups and parodies, and whoever thought of putting a political slant onto ‘Back to the Future’ had a pretty bright idea.It really does seem as if Obama has wrapped up the vote of graphic designers in America, I see a lot more Obama tees than Clinton tees (no McCain ones at all…), and the Barack fans are usually better designed as well.

We Are the People We’ve Been Waiting For by Ban T-shirts

I wrote about this t-shirt ten days ago, and then it turned up in the mail a couple of days ago, so I’m going to ask again, Ferrari, if you want me to review an Enzo, I’ll gladly have one for the weekend. You have eight days to respond!

For those of you that are unaware, the slogan on this tee comes from a speech made by Democratic Presidential hopeful Barack Obama, and even though it isn’t mentioned explicitly, I think that the quote clearly relates to his sounds-nice-but-doesn’t-mean-a-thing messages of ‘hope’ and ‘change’. When I first wrote about this tee a commenter, Carl, said that the design was lacking since there was so much wasted space. At the time I thought that Carl might be right, especially as we all know that huge type looks sweet, but now that I’ve had it in my hands I feel a bit different, the size feels about right, perhaps not having it dominate the shirt is meant to make the message seem a bit calmer and less shouty than it would with a large type tee? Also, I really like the use of a full stop to try and reinforce the message.

This is an organic tee from American Apparel’s ‘Sustainable Edition‘, which presumably means that the cotton plants get massages just like the AA employees famously do. This is actually the first AA organics tee I’ve received, and I must say I’m impressed, it feels pretty much the same as a regular AA tee, which I guess is what you want, no reduction in quality whilst producing an environmentally conscientious product. I don’t know how they last through various washings, so if anyone has experience with them I’d appreciate an opinion. Print is fairly thick, I think its plastisol ink.Costiness=$18.50 Link

Kim Kardashian Wears a black t-shirt with gold ‘Obama Is My Homeboy’ print

Well, I guess now we definitely know who the Democratic nominee is going to be, people who were on the fence before will have surely been swung to the Obama camp now that they know Kim Kardashian, a woman who is famous for very little reason (no ‘two big reasons’ jokes in the comments please), has officially come out in support of Barack Obama.

I’ve googled around and can’t find the specific tee, which is a pity because I like the style and as you are well aware I practically live for gold print on tees, but if you’re after something a bit more artistically minded No Star Clothing offer a tee with the same message but with an image of Obama on it.

Barack Obama t-shirt by Enstrumental

I haven’t quite decided who should get the ever-so-powerful HYA Presidential endorsement, but I do like this tee, and as the pic above shows, Barack Obama certainly doesn’t disapprove!

Enstrumental released their OBAMA shirt in March 2007 (before many hopped on the OBAMA tee bandwagon) and has given 8% of the proceeds of the many shirts sold to the OBAMA campaign.

Enstrumental have got a great selection of other tees too, so it might be worth clicking through even if you’re still a bit pissed that the guy with the best hair isn’t in the race anymore.Costiness=$35 Link
