A blog about hoodies & t-shirts, with news from the independent clothing world

Owl hoodie by BoyGirlParty

I was sure that I’d already written about this, but looking back through the archives it would appear that isn’t the case. I don’t really know what the image is all about, but its seems very wearable in that “its not amazing but it clearly doesn’t suck” kind of way. Considering that Susie Ghahremani (whose surname I still have to copy/paste) is a fairly well-recognised artist, the price point on this hoodie is well below arty expectations.

All You Can Eat by wyel88 @ RedBubble

Remember when I pointed out that Flickr Find by Wyel a couple of weeks ago? Well I had a little hunt around and found this tee by him. I think the idea is that the print is all the tings that could be found in a snakes stomach, or something like that. RedBubble are quite a new name to me, but according to their about page “RedBubble is an open and inclusive website where you can share your creative genius with the world.”…. and sell it! From the looks of things they handle the bothersome task of printing up your artwork onto t-shirts, prints, canvases, and you earn a cut. I’d really appreciate it if anyone could leave a comment if they have any experience of the quality of RedBubble products, since I haven’t heard much RedBubble chatter in the past on the blogs I read or forums I frequent.

Blackbirds t-shirt on olive by Option-G @ Little Paper Planes

Big rectangular prints on the front of a tee are.. err… big, this season, I’ve noticed them cropping up more and more recently and its a style that I’ve come to really enjoy. For me, there’s a feeling that they are a good way to put art onto a t-shirt, the print conforms to the standard shape/dimensions that you expect to see in a piece of art hanging on a wall, and because of this I think it gives artists a bit more freedom to play in terms of their subject, even if they might feel a little constricted in terms of placement.

Great use of negative space on this tee, and I really like the look of the red-to-yellow gradient, although it is often pretty hard to print a nice gradient so its a pity we don’t have real pictures of this tee rather than just the mock-ups.

In their blurb this hoodie is described as the “ultimate summer hoodie, lightweight and shear accented with bird motifs and Swarovski crystals, will lift your spirits on even the coolest summer night.” For most readers I’m sure that summer still feels quite a long way away, but there’s nothing wrong with being well prepared and picking up a hoodie when it is 50% off.

It was the swarovski crystals that sold it for me really, they’re a real button pusher for me at the moment.

My head is a freakin’ mess

peeps1_screen.jpg

We don’t get ‘peeps’ here in the UK, by which I don’t mean shorthand for person (i.e. “I’m jus’ hangin’ wit’ ma peeps”, which I say all the time, as you would imagine), I mean those bizarre, fluffy, sugary things that look awesome but I imagine are actually kinda nasty, on account of them being luminous colours.
But even though I may not have first hand experience of the peeps, I can recognise an American icon when I see one, which is why I like this hoodie from Messhead clothing.

The design is crisp, simple, well postioned, and with a dash of colour to ensure that it stands out from the crowd. You could say that its a bit empty, but I think that the minimalist approach suits this better than having a few giant peeps dotted about the hoddie. There’s also ‘Messhead’ written in handwriting style font (kinda like the one that Threadless use for their logo) on the hood, which is readable when the hood is up, which I kinda like, though it might be a bit ‘in your face’ for some. Also, it’s damn cheap, which is always a plus.

It is also available in white, a colour which I usually avoid because I tend to get various sauces on me on a regular basis, but in this case I think the design might look better in white.

I pick Piqto

15.jpg
Quick post tonight because I’m so tired that keep hitting the wrong keys on the laptop (though it being dark and me being in bed may have contributed to that).

On this Hoody the main motive of the winter series is printed: hummingbirds, flowers and alternate «Piqto» logo in a brown-grey tone - jets and sun in the background in bright blue (screen printing).

I like it, it’s cool.

As was mentioned a while back, No Star have a new website, and a few new designs to go with it. If memory serves correctly, this Two Birds hoodie is a new design, I think…

The placement of the birds may be unfortunate for the ladies, but the birds don’t appear to be boobies, so at least you’ve got factual accuracy on your side in case of pervs. It’s a fairly simple design, but the outline around the birds is a real nice touch.

sigur rosI am a big, big fan of Sigur Ros, I’m sure all you hipsters were fans waaaay before me, but it doesn’t stop me liking them (even if channel 4 seem to have pressed the repeat button on Takk… for all their ads nowadays). They also produce some fantastic merchandise, including this rather lovely hoody.

It’s available from a merch distributor called Sandbag who I’d never heard of before, but they seem to do some pretty big bands, so I’m sure you’re in safe hands. A lot of stuff in the Sigur Ros shop seems to be the stuff that was available at their shows towards the end of last year, so having seen it closely (but not actually bought any) I can verify that it all looks like good stuff.

Direct hoody link is… here, costiness=£25, and if anyone tells you those birds just look like flacks of paint, tell’em they just don’t ‘get’ the Ros.
