Boston Tee Party Recap Winky Boo Style

by Amy_F on August 19, 2012

Boston Tee Party 2012

Last weekend was a huge weekend for the indie clothing community.  Months of planning lead to the First Annual Boston Tee Party & Artist/Design Expo.  Hosted by Kelly Murphy (owner of Saucewear & The Tee Gazette) and co-hosted by (yours truly) Amy Fiedler (owner of Winky Boo & blogger/contributor for Hide Your Arms), the Tee party took place in where else? Boston, MA!

Brands from all over gathered in Boston to take part in the Boston Tee Party.  From New Jersey, to California, Florida and UK, we all traveled to take part in this extraordinary event that didn’t disappoint.  Starting the day off with 3 guest speakers which then lead us into the shopping and networking part while the live music played.

For the rest of my recap of the First Annual Boston Tee Party and to check out photos from the event head on over to the Winky Boo Blog for a closer look at this outstanding Indie Event!!

half life t-shirts

Considering how popular Half Life is it’s no wonder that TeeFury decided it would be a good idea to produce a related shirt.

Shirt.Woot drop one of my favourite Star Wars t-shirts for a while.

Nice Sherlock shirt from RIPT today.

T-shirt news for March 21st

Doctor Who t-shirt

Thankfully the comments over at TeeFury explained to me that this is something to so with Doctor Who, the Tardis at the top should have been a bit of a clue as well though.

This Star Wars based design at Shirt.Woot is one of my favourites from them for quite some time.

Spiderman gets some attention at RIPT.

Doctor Who turns up at Qwertee.

I like this Shirt Punch design so much I might actually buy it, Mars U straight from the Futurama universe.

The nerd hive arrives at Stupidhurts.us.

That is one depressing Pluto t-shirt at 24tee (apparently it has something to do with 4chan).

Wow, very nice skull shirt from DBH today.

Made in the Now take a look at a painting that people used to think was a Van Gogh knockoff that it turns out is the real deal.

Dead Head gets another run out at Tilteed.

VNM added some patches to their store.

Great interview with Jake Nickell of Threadless about how they are dealing with partnerships. It’s fascinating to hear about how these things really work and so refreshing to hear honesty and openness from a company of their size.

RIPT have added five free shirts to the raffle for the Boston Tee Party.

TeeMadness2012 is open for voting now.

Here’s a cat wearing a t-shirt.

This Led Zeppelin t-shirt is up for $14,000 on eBay. Vintage tees scare me a bit, so much money in so little cotton!

Something tells me this Chinese guy doesn’t know what’s written on his shirt, or he does, which could be more concerning.

You know you’ve got great friends when they make you a shirt to celebrate your vasectomy. Look at that grimace, he KNOWS that picture was going to end up getting spread around on the internet.

New Actual Pain has dropped at Street Casuals, those guys do have a lot of releases, don’t they?

Akomplice have released their Spring 2012 lookbook.

Spend $40+ at ThinkGeek and get $10 off with the coupon code SHATNER.

TeeTalk Recap!

by Leah on March 17, 2012

Post image for TeeTalk Recap!

TeeTalk happened once again last week and, wow, look who showed up (what a big, big list!)

Aaron A. Fimister, artist
Adam Hendle, creator of IAMTHETREND- A Guide to All Things Independent
Crystal Bam Fontan, artist known as Bamboota
Danny Macias, owner of Another Fine Tee, launching soon in Spring 2012
Glen O’Neill, co-owner of The Yetee
James Hance, artist
Jared Thompson, blogger at Tee Gazette and DesignJuices
John Rohde, artist known as Buzatron
Josh Reid Mirman, concept illustrator/sketch artist
Karen Hallion, artist
Kari Fry, artist
Megan Lara, artist
Nader Boraie, owner and designer at Labyrinth Clothing
Paul Espinoza, creator of The UTee
Rachel Bowland Ulstad, artist
Rick Waters, owner of OMUNKY and creator of TeeTalk
Rob Wood, artist
Steve Gelenter, artist CoDdesigns

The chat was full of fans, artists, designers, creators, owners, bloggers – everyone there wanted to chat and be a part of it all, so of course that means this TeeTalk chat session was a great success. Two events were the topic of discussion, first being the anxiously awaited Tee Madness 2012 (organized by Adam Hendle from IAMTHRETREND), competition will be starting this Monday the 19th and the line-up looks fantastic. We also happily discussed The First Annual Boston Tee Party (happening August 11, 2012), which is guaranteed to be a great time (really wishing I could go, I can fit in someone’s suitcase, right?) Other topics that stood out to me that night: What lured you to the t-shirt world? What tee are you wearing now? Who works a full time job whilst managing to make art and, if so, how do you do it!? Another one that I would like to point out was a question to the artists and designers – what was their best selling tee?

A few were nice enough to share and I see a nerdy pattern, do you?

Glenn showed us The Yetee’s most triumphant tee,  Kari Fry’s Serious Time

Josh Mirman’s best seller, Super Fighting Robot from Level Up Studios

Theatre de la Labyrinth is Karen Hillian’s top seller

Bamboota’s best selling is a Doctor Who tee, Procrastinate!

Of course we discussed a multitude of other interesting topics, had a lot of laughs, as well as learned from each other. Honestly, as a fan and as a girl secretly wanting to design tees in the future, these TeeTalks are extremely educational and informative. Another thing, I can’t stress this enough, TeeTalk is not just for artists and companies, it is meant to be for all who are interested in t-shirts – fan and artist alike. So with that said, please join me and all of us next time. We would love to have you and welcome you – this tee community could not be any nicer, trust me.

I will keep all you readers here at Hide Your Arms posted about when the next TeeTalk will be (most likely mid-April), but you can also keep in touch by following TeeTalk on Twitter and Facebook.

T-shirt News Roundup for January 16th

by Andy on January 16, 2012

mythbusters t-shirt

Dexter’s Laboratory meets Mythbusters in this shirt from Teefury.

Y’know, I’ve never seen Donnie Darko, judging by the amount of shirts about it, including this one from Qwertee, I probably should (lots of shirts usually = a good movie).

Shirt.Woot have a delightful 8-bit Ghostbusters design.

Strangely, RIPT also have a Ghostbusters shirt, though with a Muppets twist.

Glow in the dark shirt from The Yetee.

Nowhere Bad have a Portal inspired shirt.

OtherTees have a nice Sherlock design. Did anyone see the last episode of the current run last night? That show is so damn good.

24Tee are selling a familiar stormtrooper design.

TeeRaiders have a Firefly design that I didn’t need to Google to work out what it was.

Quite a pretty Twitter design from Stupidhurts.us.

GraphicLab have a Portal shirt on sale all this week.

Tee Mashups is closing, which is unfortunate, though at least they are being up front about things and are sending refunds to people that will not receive their shirts.

Star Wars comes to Shirt Punch today.

Not my kind of tee at DBH today, but interesting nevertheless.

Hey look, Tilteed are selling Greg Abbott’s lovely fox design again.

Glennz has turned five of his designs into iPhone wallpapers (may also work with other smartphones, I’m not sure).

Tony over at Wrongwroks has released a parka jacket in five different colours.

Perception Apparel have put three of their tees on sale for $10.

Halfcut Clothing have released a shirt to celebrate their involvement with the Blind Tiger Collective. Use coupon code hcc10 to get 10% off your order in their store.

The official press release for the Boston Tee Party has been released, it doesn’t cover much new ground but it’s nice to have it all be ‘official’.

Big Cartel let us know about some of their milestones in 2012, such as collective store sales of over $100,000,000 from their almost 200,000 stores.

Mighty Fine are running a competition with Marvel to find an amazing Avengers t-shirt design with the winner receiving up to $2,500.

Johnny Cupcakes has a couple of new tees, and a couple of new hats in his stores.

Here’s Rihanna wearing a Celine t-shirt that probably cost more than my whole outfit.
