A blog about hoodies & t-shirts, with news from the independent clothing world

I’m mostly posting this because I really liked the little bird (that looks a bit like a pigeon to me) yelling “cheap” in the top corner of the graphic, but you also can’t argue with the savings!

Brooklyn Industries

*Update: Want even more savings? BI just gave us a new coupon code, if you spend more than $40, you can get free ground shipping by using the coupon code HYASHIP in the checkout.

Oh damn, I totally forgot to post this, which is a bit silly since it is a code that’s totally exclusive to us HYA folk (unless someone republishes it…), although it does have an open ended expiration date so hopefully its still working. If you spend $50 or more in the Brooklyn Industries online store you can get $5 off by using the coupon code BKIHYA. I think they dropped a new line of graphic tees last week, so there should be plenty for you to pick from.

I thought we’d kick the week off with something simple that would be good at showing off a t-shirt design with a graphic on it. The way that the stripes run across the body and the sleeves, and the contrast hood lining and drawstring is pretty cool. A 100% nylon garment probably won’t be too nice when summer comes around though…

Brooklyn Industries are all aboard the sale train (mens/womens), but I’ve had a couple of coupon codes slid along to me to help sweeten the deals for you:

Save $10 on purchases of $75 or more. Enter coupon code: 75Spring08

Save $15 on purchases of $125 or more. Enter coupon code: 125Spring08

These offers will be valid until March 26th and have the usual T&Cs (one use per person, online only, BKI aren’t responsible for any Godzilla attacks resulting from coupon use, etc.).

When I was in Hong Kong I spent quite a lot of my shopping time trying to find a decent blazer and come up with nothing (HK is not the friend of the larger gent). I’ve got one nice blazer and feel good (and look even better!) when I’m wearing it, sometimes its good to class things up a bit, even if my friends to think I’m attempting to become a long-lost member of the Backstreet Boys just by wearing a jacket.

I’m not sure if I’d buy a blazer over the net, but this does look damned sharp. Personally, I’d like to see something a bit more interesting going on in the lining, white is fine but why not have a bit of colour to pep things up a bit?

I realised today that I simply don’t do enough sweater posts, and it’s not because I have anything against them, there just doesn’t seem to be as many out there when compared to the ever-popular hoodie (zipped or not).

Luckily our friends over at Brooklyn Industries can always be relied on to put out quality designs, and whilst I’m pretty sure that the Griffin Instarsia design isn’t exactly new, its still good and will provide some much needed warmth now that the nights are closing in and the leaves are turning (expect me to say that for the next couple of months).

I like the stripes on the cuffs and hem, it feels like a bit of retro nostalgia. The griffin design on the chest might be a bit Pringle-ish for some, but I’d argue that it suits the style of the jumper, especially considering the stripes.

I noticed that Jungle Life posted about some one of a kind hoodies that are available from one of my favourite NY labels, Brooklyn Industries, and when I say favourite, I mean they gave me free clothes.

Much like Jungle Life my favourite from the range is the bike hoodie (zip-up version), the idea of collage hoodies is pretty interesting and the colour layering is very nice, and I can personally recomment their ink, I don’t know what it’s made of, but gosh-darn its soft. There are also 3 squares of fabric stitched on the front (at least I think it is, doesn’t seem like ink on the front).

Costiness=$84.00 from Brooklyn Industries (get a 10% discount with the coupon code “skyline06″ - no quotation marks). And remember, it is one of a kind.

Brooklyn Industries may have only been featured yesterday, but they hooked me up with the Cyclone tee from their new line of Coney Island inspired designs which arrived today and I wanted to review it as soon as I could. Which meant that once again I got to pretend to be a model (because all models take pictures of themselves in the bathroom). The shirt is real nice, I don’t know what they print onto but its good and soft. The design is interesting, a mix of detail (the coaster) and simple rounded shapes (the sea?). Also, I’ve never owned an ‘eggplant’ coloured shirt, I usually stick to the regular ‘man’ colours (black, blue, red, grey, blue), but I really like this.

One great little detail is actually on the back, and I love printing on the back! It’s a ticket to/for Coney Island (I never made it there when I visited NY so I don’t know how that works), which is a really good idea for the new line.

If you want a 10% discount on your order you can use the coupon code “skyline06″, as was mentioned by Shimone yesterday.

Costiness=$28, URL here, and their stores throughout the New York area.

Thanks again to Allison at BI for getting me involved with promoting the new line, they’ve been featured in a lot of really impressive publications (Newsweek > HYA) so its nice to be thought of.

There’s a fair few pictures after the jump, including that ticket detail.

Shimone from San Francisco-centric blog Jungle Life has been good to Hide Your Arms. Shimone has already sent 2 leads my way, so it was high time for me to ask “what hides your arms?”

I picked up the Verse Rhyme Hoodie in Dijon from Brooklyn Industries. I was nervous about the bold colors at first but when it arrived I saw they were muted to more natural tones for an effective dose of casual. The pictures on the site don’t really do it justice so I’ll fill you in on some additional details.

The interior of the hoodie is completely lined with fleece making it incredibly soft to the touch. The zipper handle spells out the word “Brooklyn” (this you can see from the zoom image on the site) and when zipped all the way up rests cleverly at the neck. The construction is magnificent from top to bottom - everything is made to last - and the sizing is spot on. Because of the colors used it goes with just about everything - making a flashy statement with jeans or a subtle statement under a coat.

Furthermore, it’s available for both men and women. Men in Dijon and Grey, Women in Grey and Eggplant. If you’re looking to go bold I’d go with the Dijon for men and Grey for women or tone it tone with the Grey for men and Eggplant for women.

Brooklyn Industries has quickly become one of my favorite labels for their frequent sales, affordable prices, great use of color, fresh designs, attention to detail, and quality construction.

The Verse Rhyme Hoodie is on sale right now for $48 (men) and $44 (women) and can be purchased for an additional 10% off using the coupon code “Skyline06″.

Brooklyn Industries actually released a new line of clothing on Sunday (yesterday) inspired by Coney Island to coincide with the opening of the park for the season. Look out for another review of Brooklyn Industries in the near future, though I may struggle to better Shimone’s excellent review!
