Akumu Ink Never Say Die

Akumu Ink Never Say Die

Akumu Ink have taken things in a different direction for their latest design, putting a lighter twist on their usual dark designs by employing a cartoony style. I really like the way that the cute design and dark subject matter come together to create some weird kind of balance.

Me, I’d have made the skull in the speech bubble bigger, but you know what I’m like when it comes to oversize printing, so I guess that might not be to everyone’s taste. As ever, this tee is printed by Joey and Dora in Montreal on an American Apparel tee.

I get the feeling that someone might have taken quite a long time putting this design together… pity there aren’t more close up pictures though.

A box of goodies from Wrongwroks

by Andy on June 14, 2008

I really like it when people send me things that aren’t tees. Let’s be clear, I love it when people send me tees and really appreciate people taking the time to package stuff up for me, but being sent stuff that isn’t tees or hoodies is a real novelty for me. Wrongwroks, who I think its fair to say I’m a fan of, sent over a couple of hats and a couple of sticker sets to HYA central, and after a hard day digging up a cobbled road (no, really) I sat in the garden and took some pictures of the goods. I’m no expert on hats (though I am rather partial to them), so I’m just going to let the pictures do the talking. So if you want to find out what’s in that box (and see me rocking some seriously hot modeling looks) then click on through… unless you’re reading the RSS feed, in which case you’ve just got to scroll down (possibly, it’s feed reader dependent apparently).

In my previous looks at Akumu Ink I’ve mentioned more than once that they’re pretty dark (in the literal and figurative senses), not that that’s a bad thing, but having designs that are always printed onto a black tee are going to pigeon-hole you a bit. I guess that Summer must have arrived in Montreal (here’s some bad pictures I took when I was there 6 years ago), because they’ve seen the light(er colours) and are now offering some of their designs on Army (olive green) for the guys and raspberry for the girls. In addition to adding two new colours to their palette they’ve also added two new designs to their inventory. Death’s Embrace (shown in raspberry) is a rather Nightmare Before Christmas style design in which a skeleton is shooting itself in the head. The skull on the character is actually handpainted, whilst the rest of the body is screenprinted, and AI sent over some exclusive for HYA (and Kat) that I’ve put at the bottom of the post. The Black Rose (shown in Army), has a really cool print placement that wraps the thorny stem of the rose around the side of the tee.One point that I raised in my sample review was that AI put a pretty large print of their logo on the lower back of each tee, one of the joys of individually screen printing each t-shirt is that if you don’t want that logo being printed there, you don’t have to have it printed there, you just need to let them know and they’ll sort that out for you.

One last bit of AI news, they’re going to be at ‘Northern Ink Xposure‘ at the Toronto Hilton, June 13th-15th. I don’t really know much about tattoos, but if you do, and you’re in Toronto, then I imagine you’d want to swing by this event.

Wrongwroks: Summer 08 Preview

Zoe models the new Summer Range @ wrongwroks

I think I managed to go without blogging Wrongwroks for a few weeks, what a terrible situation!

The reason for the lack in WR pop culture mashup designs is that their summer releases have been delayed, but I thought I’d give you a bit of a tease in the form of these pics from the WR blog. I’m afraid there’s no NAT in this update, but to be fair to her, new model Zoe isn’t exactly an uggo.
