And an Avril Lavigne Megapost for the finish

by Andy on October 27, 2008

I was wondering to myself who I should finish the big celebrity marathon with, and decided that Avril Lavigne was probably the best choice since I still had a few pictures of her left, and because she has been such a frequent subject of celebrity posts in the past.

The “Little Miss VIP” tee at the top is by Public Library, and I’ve managed to find it on sale, but its a Japanese site, so your mileage may vary. In the gallery there is also a few pics of Avril wearing a “Boys Like Girls” hoodie, they’re a band, so I guess you’d only buy that if you liked the band. There’s also two fairly non-descript grey hoodies with little stars on (one hoodie with red stars, the other with blue), which I doubt is anything really special and similar items can be found in a lot of high street shops, a t-shirt that I can’t quite make out the wording on, and lastly there is a black and white hoodie from her own clothing line, Abbey Dawn.

I hope you’ve enjoyed my sojourn into the world of celebrity blogging with a HYA slant, I enjoyed doing something a little bit different. Hopefully these posts will attract a whole new slew of readers who find the site through these celebrity posts, and then hopefully stick around for a little while and end up learning more about the wonderful world of independent clothing that is covered (… I still love that pun) on a daily basis here on Hide Your Arms.

Hayden Panettiere is a Genius

by Andy on October 27, 2008

Wondering why there are so many celebrity posts on HYA today? Look here for an explanation.

Its a little sad that on my day of celebritees I’ve been able to find so few of the tees for you guys to buy if you so wished, but this one I definitely know the source of. This t-shirt, being oh-so kindly modeled by Hayden Panettiere, says “This Girl’s A Genius”, and is available from Local Celebrity.

Yeah, I bet you didn’t think that it looked anything like a chandelier from the 70s until you read the title, and it kinda doesn’t, but at the same time… it kinda does.

I think this is a really cool tee, which is why, once again, its disappointing that I can’t find a place for you guys to buy it, but where would you really start googling that kind of a design?

I know I shouldn’t, I really know, that but I do think there is something about the micro-celebrity of The Hills ‘stars’ Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag that is somewhat intriguing. They’re two people who have gained their fame, as I understand it, by pretending to be themselves on TV, and have then furthered that fame by turning up to events and staged photo opportunities. Incredible.

Also incredible. The director of the photoshoot that thought it was a great idea for Spencer and Heidi to show their support for Sarah Palin and John McCain by carrying around beer and a shotgun (what great role models for kids!). Whilst the very thought of Sarah Palin as Vice President scares the hell out of me, I must admit that Spencer’s “Palin for VP: God, Guns & Glory” tee is actually one of the best designed that I’ve seen supporting the Republican cause, which isn’t saying much to be perfectly honest.

You know what’s crazy about music nowadays, Katy Perry has had one popular song (right?), and now she’s this huge star that everyone recognises and knows about, but its not like a one-hit wonder kind of fame, she seems to be absolutely everywhere, and not in a novelty way, which is what you’d expect for someone singing a song about lipstick lesbianism. Still, its a fun song, her blog is powered by Tumblr (so she must be cool), and she wears cool tees in photoshoots, so I’m happy.

I don’t even like this t-shirt, it is incredible that someone could produce something so astoundingly normal and boring and someone that was in The Devil Wears Prada actually wear it, but I did think it was pretty funny that she was using an umbrella when its clearly sunny, and it isn’t even a sun umbrella.

Was in Transformers? Check. Likes Motley Crue? Check. Likes Star Wars? Check. Is carrying an iPhone? Check Should marry Andy? Check.

I couldn’t find the actual tee, which is a pity since it looks really cool, but I did find a post on GeekSugar about her wearing this tee where almost all the comments on the post are about the white case on her iPhone.

What’s the deal with American people thinking that just because they’re descendants of Irish people that they can go around thinking that they’re really Irish? The same goes for ‘Scottish’ American people. Its always confused me, especially in a nation where the vast majority seem to be very proud of your own country and its virtues.

I’m not sure if its the exact same shirt, but you can buy an Adidas Notre Dame shirt which has the fightin’ leprechaun on the front of it (and ‘Notre Dame’ written on the back), right here, or on pretty much any Notre Dame site..

Wahey! Here’s a tee where I’ve finally found somewhere that you can actually buy it (several places in fact). Admittedly, in a slightly different colourway, but hey, I’m trying my best here, okay?

The tee is ‘Lucky Strike’ and is by RVCA, you can buy it at: In red at Magic Seaweed Surf Shop, and on white with grey lettering at Swell, and Underworld.

I don’t know what it is about Megan Fox (sidebar: how ridiculously good-looking is she?), but I’m inclined to believe that she actually does like Motley Crue, whereas I don’t think that Jessica Simpson and Paris Hilton are big fans of the Rolling Stones. It’s porbably because of her hair. All girls with black hair like Motely Crue, right?

I really, really wish I could find this design somewhere on the internet because I think its pretty cool, but alas, like so many of these celebritee posts that I’m running today, my searches are turning up nothing except for other blogs with the same images.

Nicky Hilton goes Vogue

by Andy on October 27, 2008

Wondering why there are so many celebrity posts on HYA today? Look here for an explanation.

I like Nicky Hilton, she usually wears cool clothes, she doesn’t get in as much trouble as her sister, and she actually seems to have a job (a clothing line?). Even though its pretty simple, I think this this tee might be one of my favourites of the day so far.

Like I said in my first Avril post of this Celebritee marathon, Avril Lavigne wears a lot of hoodies, so you can expect to see quite a bit more of her over the rest of the day, and she’ll probably be looking a tad annoyed to be photographed, as is her usual look. The purple hoodie is by Etnies judging by the text, but I’ve come up with nothing in terms of somewhere for you to actually buy it.

When it comes to Obama t-shirts, I’m willing to give celebrities (and ‘normal’ people) a bye since I don’t think they’re the same as political message tees. Take Hero’s hottie Hayden Panettiere here, she’s wearing an Obama tee, but its not forcing a viewpoint on me, just letting me know who she’s going to be voting for next week.

Rihanna Wants us to Make Love Not War

by Andy on October 27, 2008

Wondering why there are so many celebrity posts on HYA today? Look here for an explanation.

Ahhh, there’s nothing like an extremely sounds-profound-but-doesn’t-really-make-much-sense text tee with political connotations to remind you why you hate it when celebrities decide to tell you about their political views. Rihanna hasn’t quite equalled Sean Penn in terms of annoying me, but we all know that tees are a gateway medium.

The tee is by a brand called Lollipop, but predictably I can find it on sale anywhere.

Ben Affleck is totally into surfing and stuff

by Andy on October 27, 2008

Wondering why there are so many celebrity posts on HYA today? Look here for an explanation.

Usually, whenever I see a celebrity wearing a tee which promotes a random little company (“Eddie’s Auto Parts” or “Big Willy’s Burger Shack” for example), I usually get annoyed because the company doesn’t actually exist, and what’s the point of a retro tee not referencing something that exists?

Fair play to Ben Affleck though, I’m pretty sure the Hanalei Surf Shop on his tee is actually this one, so I’d like to think that Ben himself actually bought this rather than his stylist/PA putting it on him because it would be good for his public image.

Avril Lavigne is… smiling?

by Andy on October 27, 2008

Wondering why there are so many celebrity posts on HYA today? Look here for an explanation.

Avril Lavigne is definitely a friend of the hoodie, and I’ve featured her a lot on Hide Your Arms because of that, but usually in those posts she isn’t looking particularly happy (and you probably wouldn’t either with a camera lens in your face whenever you left the house), so its nice to see her actually smiling in a picture.

I’ve got no idea where the tiger print hoodie is from, but I’ve found with my previous Avril posts that her army of fans usually end up letting me know via the comments.

I can’t work out why there are so many gay rumours about Zac Effron. From what I can tell, the only reasoning behind it is that his hair is perfect at all times (with the above pic being a possible exception), his skin is flawless, and his teeth are whiter than the ceiling that we just painted today (and we painted it white, not ‘off white’). If paying attention to your looks is reason enough for gay rumours to circulate, then surely everyone in Hollywood is gay?
