T-shirt news for March 26th

by Andy on March 26, 2012

I find it kind of odd that people would want to wear the mascot for an operating system, but this shirt from TeeFury ain’t too bad.

akufuncture t-shirt

fishakufuncture1 480x480 A couple of new t shirts from Akufuncture
Akufuncture base their designs around Chinese culture and I applaud them for trying to do something a bit different in a sea of brands that seem happy to churn out what’s on trend at any given moment. Of course, it doesn’t matter to me that these designs are inspired by historic Chinese symbols, but it’s nice that there is some meaning behind the tees. The shirts are $20 a piece and available now.

I knew that Wrongwroks was popular in Asia, but I didn’t realise that they had reached the point where they could open a store in Beijing. Yes, they’re sharing it with Stussy, but I think that association alone shows how much of a well respected an entity they are on that continent. I don’t think that there are any HYA readers in China (please leave a comment if you are), but on the off-chance that a HYAer is in Beijning you’ll probably want to check the store out, I presume that the address is in the image below. More pictures here.

Home Plastered 1308746700838 480x629 50% off to Facebook Fans of Plastered Shirts [Submitted]

Get Plastered! Plastered T-shirts is having a 50% off discount on shirts and accessories on their facebook fan page for just becoming a fan.
Plastered T-shirts is Beijing’s first street design brand. The designs are the products of collaborations with local artists to create T-shirt designs which remix the everyday images found in the streets of China.

Andy: I wasn’t expecting much when I clicked through to this brand, but actually things are a lot more intriguing than they first appear. The some designs have a modern feel that I would expect from an Asian streetwear brand, but they mash that with traditional Chinese imagery. The website is slightly dated, the typework let’s the look down a bit, but as they are obviously Chinese natives I think we can overlook their translated site not being quite up to scratch. The shirts are $25 each, so they’re pretty cheap when that discount comes into play.

linty fresh china t-shirts

It wasn’t so long ago that I was musing over whether Eric Terry’s Linty Fresh had bitten the dust after several months of silence and little in terms of news from his store. Then at the weekend I randomly saw a message about LF belts on my twitter feed, I even retweeted it I was so shocked. Then yesterday came news from Eric that he had released some new tees. He’s back in the game!

Of course, seasoned LF veterans will notice that these designs aren’t new, so what’s the big deal? The shirts are cut to the exact specifications that Eric wanted at a factory he has visited several times in China. Beyond that, the materials are even matching the same pantone colour of the original design, which I think is a really neat trick. The cut is the same dimensions as an American Apparel shirt (good idea), but slightly thicker to make it more durable (which may affect how it changes in the wash compared to an AA tee), and Eric is now using “Japanese fashion ink” which apparently won’t crack peel or fade. I don’t know what Japanese fashion ink is, but all the shirts I’ve received from Japan have good printing, so it’s probably no bad thing. The new shirts are $22.99 each, which is a slight rise on the old tees (I think), but as it is all custom I can see where the extra costs come in.

Hopefully soon we’ll start seeing new designs from Linty Fresh.

Made in China T-shirt

March 10, 2010
Thumbnail image for Made in China T-shirt

I think it’s funny how years ago Americans knew lots of their stuff was made in China, and that was fine, but now that the Chinese economy is a lot bigger all of a sudden stuff being from China is scary. Funnily enough, this tee is actually printed on an American Apparel t-shirt, which as [...]

Linty Fresh’s contribution to Black Friday madness isn’t particularly crazy, still welcome

November 27, 2009

Not exactly a huge BF offering from Linty Fresh, but as Eric is in China trying to run the American side of things and get the Chinese arm of LF up and running I’ll let it slide. It had taken me until last week to realise why Eric had stopped tweeting and blogging, I’m pretty [...]

Tired of the City by Linty Fresh

November 4, 2009

We don’t seem to have been hearing too much anything from Eric Terry, the fellow behind Linty Fresh, since he moved to China more than a month ago. Maybe his usual communications channels are blocked where he in behind the Great Firewall of China and he’s not able to keep us updated. I’ve really enjoyed [...]

China in a Box by William de Almeida for Camiseteria

August 5, 2009

It’s a good concept (various icons of China in a takeaway box), and it’s executed well (though the colourway doesn’t really ‘pop’ for me), but… and you probably had the same reaction as me… did they really want to use that image on the product page? Costiness=R$40 Available from Camisteria (non-Brazilians need to e-mail them [...]

Akufuncture are a bunch of characters

March 3, 2009

We’re all pretty used to seeing the world’s of Japan and streetwear colliding (I guess that to a lot of people streetwear=Japan), but China and streetwear is a bit less of a common occurrence. Akufuncture are trying to change that, creating an urban fashion line combined with Chinese culture in the form of a series [...]

Fifty Thousand Shirts [Review]

January 21, 2009

Kiks Tyo’s Olympics tee won’t be around for long

August 8, 2008

I say that this won’t be around for long for two reasons: 1) It’s limited to 100 pieces worldwide. 2) I doubt that they’ve got a license for it, and the IOC aren’t particularly well known for being cool with people making use of their magic rings. I quite like the print on the back, [...]

One x Fifty Thousand (Chinese Earthquake Charity Tee)

May 22, 2008

I’m sure that you’ve all heard about the earthquake (and following aftershocks) that have devastated large areas in China, leaving around 34,000 dead, 29,000 missing, and almost 5 million left homeless. At times like this the design community often attempts to finds ways to help that go beyond just giving money, and the above tee [...]

Smile Big Hoodie by Touma @ eno

April 18, 2008

I’ve clearly gone a bit Asian with today’s product picks, first a tee from Hong Kong, and now a hoodie from a store in mainland China. This hoodie totally reminds me of the infamous Shark hoodie by A Bathing Ape, except happy rather than angry, and not a shark… so basically the only connection is that [...]
