Electric MVMT Light-Up Hoodie Review

by Amy_F on February 18, 2013

I’ve never been more excited upon receiving an email to do a review of a light-up hoodie.  Electric MVMT has designed an original glow-in-the-dark, light-up hoodie in several color schemes.  I received my package from them very fast and got to playing around with it this weekend.

 Electric-MVMT-1

At first I wasn’t sure what to think about how this thing was even going to operate.  Upon opening the package, which arrived in a simple brown box with the product packaged in a clear bag inside, I unzipped the sweatshirt to find a battery pack inserted in an inside small Velcro pocket.  I instantaneously started laughing and the only thought that came to mind was, “wow, I’m totally gonna get electrocuted if I wear this in the rain.”

Electric-MVMT-2

The wires are strategically connected from the battery pack to the colored light-up tubing that runs along the length of the zipper into the lining of the hood.  It’s quite nifty (yes I totally just said, nifty) how it all is intertwined, sewn inside and connected.  Please note though that the batteries are NOT included.  The sweatshirt requires 2 Double A batteries (AA).

Electric-MVMT-3

The hoodie I received was perfect; white with pink light-up tubing.  The battery pack inside has 1 button on it, as initially I figured it was one click on, one click off.  To my surprise, however it was not like that at all!  It was 1 click for on, the second click makes the light-up tubing blink slowly AND THEN, a third click will make you feel like you’re at a rave.  The light-up tubing repeatedly blinks very fast and the fourth and final click will turn the lights off.

Electric-MVMT-4

The sweatshirt is definitely high-quality, as Electric MVMT is selling them for originally $90.00 on their website (currently they’re on sale for $65.00).  They come in Black with Blue Illumination, Black with Pink Illumination, White with Blue Illumination and White with Pink Illumination.  I have to say the truth, I kind of want each color combo!

Electric-MVMT-5

They’ve taken the time to not only create a glow-in-the-dark, light-up design that is unique and not really seen before, but they’ve also given you the quality of a soft, nice fitting sweatshirt, a custom sewn-in label and a cute little embroidered design on the sleeve of the hoodie which is a circle with 3 lines in the middle – which just happens to be their logo.

Electric-MVMT-6

I have to say that Electric MVMT really took the time to think out and design a product that is not only creative and most definitely unique, but is also comfortable, stylish and well put together.  They didn’t skimp on any area of the product itself and that’s hard to find these days.  A lot of companies figure if they’re putting the money into one aspect of the design (say the light-up technology Electric MVMT has) then why bother with a custom label or even add the additional embroidered logo.  Overall they’ve done a great job with this sweatshirt and I would recommend anyone to shop with them!

Electric-MVMT-7

Now, I will not say for sure whether or not the wired technology in the lining is dangerous at all in certain weather conditions, though my Dad has assured me that I will not get electrocuted (lol).  The only thing about the sweatshirt is it’s slightly delicate or at least I feel so to handle with the battery pack in the Velcro pocket.  It’s behind the normal sweatshirt pocket so not really in the way but there’s extra wire hanging out that could possibly snag on something especially if that hoodie is left unzipped when worn.  I don’t find this to be a huge problem or become any sort of disaster if it did snag on something but I’d worry it might mess up the ability to light the sweatshirt up if it did catch.

Electric-MVMT-8

There is one final thing that leaves me wondering about this product and that’s that there are no washing instructions.  I mean, not that I’m a slob, but you’ve given me a white hoodie here, what if I need to wash it – clearly I cannot throw this thing in the washing machine.  I didn’t expect a tag to have washing instructions because I felt they’ve paid a lot of close attention to detail already, however a print out in the package might have been nice, even to simply state ‘hand-wash’ or perhaps maybe I need to unhook something before doing so.  I’m guessing it’s going to be just a spot treatment type process and assuming they don’t expect you to wear this out every day (though it’d be a lot of fun to) to where you’d dirty it so much, but clothes do need to be washed at some point in time.  But overall, aside from my conscious thoughts on how I’d get this clean IF I did indeed dirty it, I really love this damn thing and I had an impromptu photo-shoot in the dark with my Mom wearing the hoodie AND I even got it on the dog.

Electric-MVMT-9

Electric MVMT does not currently sell any other products, but it looks as if they plan on including some accessories in the near future.  They are in several retail stores that you can find on their website and they explain that their hoodies have you covered for every occasion from, “Out at the club, on a bike, hitting the bars, or recovering from a rough night with an early morning jog.”  Hey, think of it this way, now people don’t have to wear those goofy reflector vests when they go for a run at night, just hit up Electric MVMT for a nice glow-in-the-dark, light-up hoodie!  You’ve heard it here first – I think they should make some glow-in-the-dark animal clothing next. Just saying!

Electric-MVMT-10

Electric MVMT, “the best thing to happen to clothing since the invention of the button.”  Check them out on Facebook and on their Website while the hoodies are still on sale!  I’ll definitely be heading back to pick up a few more for myself too!

Hands-On LiHai T-Shirt Review

by Amy_F on September 10, 2012

Amy wearing her NO EVIL tee

I’ve had an abundance of reviews sent to me recently and this one in particular stuck out in the crowd.  Arriving in a sleek long black tube, I was actually confused as to what I possibly ordered for myself that I forgot about.  Lo and behold I wasn’t losing my mind, I hadn’t ordered anything, but it was in fact some t-shirts coming from brand new clothing company LiHai!  They just launched in August and they’ve kicked things off with a bang!

The black tube mailer was definitely a really different approach to mailing t-shirts.  Very sturdy yet simple with a silver logo sticker placed in the center of the tube.  Part of me feels bad throwing it out and wants to find a use for it so it’s kind of still just sitting here at the moment.  Inside wrapped in tissue paper were two t-shirts and some stickers and small square business cards.

The stickers were cool because they had partial images of the t-shirt designs I received along with a few others of logos and other designs in their collection.  These nifty little square business cards were another creative approach to a basic business card.  LiHai really tries to take a distinct path rather than a normal approach to basic business elements and I really enjoy that about them.  I want to hop right into the designs because these were intricate and just amazing to look at!

This first one is titled “Audio Visual”.  It’s printed on a deep grey unisex t-shirt with colors like black, white and red encompassing the design.  This design is beyond amazing to stare at!  The way they made her hair as the chords and plugs and her feet as the speakers.  Her chest area is made up of the turn tables and the different tuning buttons.  The best part which I didn’t even pick up on until I put the shirt on and my mom looked at me in it; the entire red background of the design is actually lettering that says “Audio Visual” repeated over and over in exquisite text that makes you not realize it’s even wording.

 Close-up of “Audio Visual” T-Shirt

The detail throughout the entire design from top to bottom is incredible.  Every part of this design links itself together somehow, someway.  I love the simple use of color and texture through the use of text and shading and lines.

Close-up of “Audio Visual” T-Shirt

Though it’s a unisex fit, this shirt fits pretty nicely on me.  I received a size Small in this and it’s soft and not too tight or too big as some unisex fits are.  It’s a little larger then the other t-shirt they sent me which is a girl’s cut but all in all it fits nicely and is comfortable!

My dog wanted to get in on the photo too!

Let’s move on to the second t-shirt titled “No Evil”.  I loved the concept of this shirt immediately, “See no evil, Hear no evil, Speak no evil!”  Vibrant, colorful blues take over this design on a black women’s t-shirt.

Another intricate and creative design by LiHai; “No Evil” takes an edgy approach to the Three Wise Monkey’s that embody the proverbial principle to “see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil”.  Artistically including a spray paint can, headphones and a microphone, these monkey’s definitely give this tee an edge.

Just like the other t-shirt, “No Evil” includes a ton of detail as you can notice in the close up image above.  The background is a series of different intertwining lines creating a repeating pattern.  The fronts of the monkeys include a faint yet detailed logo design for LiHai.  These tiny delicate details in both shirts really make the designs come together and fall into place.  You can tell they’ve really taken the time on their artwork to complete an entire piece and make something that is not only intriguing to the eye but attractive to wear.

Once again they slipped in some crazy text in the background that says “No Evil” over and over again.  These shirts are like a fun game of I Spy!!  Blue is my favorite color and the contrast between the shades they chose is very appealing for this design.  The detail in their labels doesn’t disappoint either as seen below:

Unlike most independent companies who usually screen-print the label on the inside neckline or do a hem tag, LiHai went ahead and got their own private labels custom made and stitched inside.  Check out the back of the label:

I’m sure you’re wondering, “Why does she think this label is so cool?”, right?  Well as I said, it’s rare to see an independent brand go all out with labels like this and not only did they make sure it was tailored to their brand but they made sure to include their brand name and/or logo on the front and back of the tag.  It’s those small details that matter sometimes!

I really enjoyed being able to review LiHai.  Their artwork was spectacular to examine and their overall packaging and branding is really spot on for having only launched in August.  I can’t wait to see what they come out with in the future and how they begin to grow and expand.  Thanks again LiHai and Daryl C. for the incredible shirts – they’ve become some of my favorites to wear!!

109 I love NY style t-shirts for you to love

by Andy on December 14, 2009

109

After the success and popularity of my previous list posts such at the 202 Star Wars t-shirts and robot lists (and of course the ridiculously meta list of t-shirt lists), I started saving up links of tees that fit into various categories, but there’s no point me just saving them up indefinitely, so it’s about time I started posting all these lists, most of them don’t quite breach the lofty barrier of more than 100 items in a list, but as they say, it’s not the size, it’s the amount of time Andy spent thinking up the metaphor.

As fasr as t-shirts go, few are more iconic than the design Milton Glaser created to help promote New York (the state, not just the city) back in the 70s. That design has gone on to be used in hundreds of different ways and become part of American pop culture, so it’s hardly surprising that the style has found it’s way onto more than a few t-shirts.

As ever with my list posts, THEY ARE NOT IN ANY RANKED ORDER, the numbers are merely there to keep track of the amount of tees in the list. I say this every time and no one seems to listen, it’s as if you skip the intro and move straight on to all the tees! Also, there are some affiliate linked shirts in there, so it’s possible I will earn money from people buying certain t-shirts on this list, but as I’ve listed just about as many as I could find, it’s hardly surprising that some of the companies have affiliate programmes. Some of the tees in the list are sold out already, and depending upon the success of this post some of them could become sold out in the future, but they could also be reprinted, so in many ways these tees are like Schroedinger’s cat before you click on the link. The list has been split into two pages to make things a little bit easier on my server, but please click through to the second page, because some of my favourites are on there and I think the list finishes pretty strongly, so they’re all worth checking out.

As ever, any exposure you can give to the list (stumble, tweet, delicious bookmark, blog post, digg, ill-considered full-back tattoo) will be greatly appreciated, and I’ll write up a thank you post with links back to everyone that helped in a couple of weeks. Now let’s go love some t-shirts!
