A blog about hoodies & t-shirts, with news from the independent clothing world

Damn, why did I spend so long (about 30ish hours works) a couple of weeks ago building my Tron costume for a party when I could have just bought a hoodie from streetwear giant Marc Ecko?

I like the way that this hoodie isn’t too ‘novelty’, I must admit that I can’t imagine myself buying it based purely on how it looks, the Star Wars element is clearly a big draw for this hoodie, but at the same time it feels as if they’ve really thought about the design (something that can be seen in a lot of the Ecko x Star Wars range) rather than just cashing in on the franchise.

You can also pretend to be Boba Fett if you want.

People that hate costume style tees, move along; people who were expecting something hooker based, move along; people that enjoy having a little fun with the clothes layering, take a gander at this. I think it would be really cool if you coupled this up with a blazer/sports jacket, I doubt that the illusion would be that effective, but it would still better than the ‘classic’ tuxedo shirt.

The Rumplo crew have put together a blog post that has twenty high quality costume tees. I’m usually not a fan of costume tees since they’re a bit too novelty for my tastes, but some of these are actually pretty cool, especially since most aren’t really for costumes, more like visual tricks (like the one in the pic).

Huff & Puff Grey Wolf Hoodie by LRG @ Karmaloop

Sometimes I see a hoodie that is so ridiculous I can’t stop myself from posting about it. This hoodie is most definitely one of those times.

I guess that if this was a costume hoodie then I could have nothing against it, and I don’t want to be too negative because part of me applauds the audacity of LRG for producing a hoodie that attempts to make the wearer look like a wolf, but then I just can’t imagine a good time or occasion that I would want to wear it.

The red hood lining is pretty little-red-riding-hood-tastic though, so they have clearly put a lot of thought into this, although it would have been cool if the zip went all the way up so that you could close the mouth on the wolf and have a quick-and-easy Halloween costume, though I would presume that LRG were trying to avoid suggestions of costumery.

Mohawk Hoodzie by Rock and Rattle

I know that I pretty much never write about clothing for children, but I thought that this was too cool to ignore just because it would barely cover one of my arms (I’m a giant, don’t you know?).

Its pretty much a standard hoodie with a little logo on the left breast, but that dash of brightly coloured ‘hair’ running along the top of the hood is sure take your kid from ‘awww’ to ‘awwwwwwww’. One cool little aspect is that you actually get two interchangeable mohawks for the hoodie, red (pictured) and baby blue, I don’t know particularly why you’d want to change them (we’re at war, pick a side!), but I never stand in the way of people having more choice.

Shark Bite by MonsterHoodies

Before anyone says it, yes, this hoodie does look similar to the Ice Wizard hoodie from Seibei, but let’s just leave it at that.I’d been waiting to write about these hoodies for a while because they were announced about a month before you could actually order one, so I didn’t see the point in writing about them, but a few days ago they went on sale, so here they are. They are clearly a lot of fun, and a great idea, although I do think that the googly eyes need some improvement, I’m not sure what they could do, but they seem to let down the quality of the product to me and make it overtly monster costume-ish instead of it being a normal hoodie that happens to have teeth and eyes on it. Still, I love the idea, hell, I’m almost tempted to buy one just so to have it in my collection, and I’m not really used to paying for clothes anymore!

Avrilleopardhoodie2.jpg

Whilst Avril (who very cleverly didn’t change her name to become Mrs. Whibley) was at the beach getting papped in her bikini, I was happier to see her in this cute hoodie (not much happier, mind you!). I know that putting ears onto clothing is a dangerous business, you are pretty much leaving yourself open for mockery, but she’s famous so she can do pretty much whatever she wants, I guess.

I’ve done a bit of sleuthing around and can’t find this hoodie or anything that looks similar to it, but Avril does seem to wear some fairly nice hoodies that look similar to this, so maybe she’s wearing the same brand a lot which might make my hunt easier.

Seibei seem like a really nice company to me, cute graphics, a regularly updated blog (which isn’t just filled with encouragement to buy Seibei clothing), they’re happy to link to their competitiors (and me, top o’ the list y’all!), they mow their lawn in a bunny suit (the grass stains must be a nightmare) and most importantly, they’ve got some great designs, like the infamously awesome Intramural Zombie Hunting League tee.

The shop at Seibei had been closed since the July 1qst, and after a number of setbacks David has finally managed to reopen the store at the weekend, all the tees are now printed on American Apparel, instead of the previously used Anvil brand, although I don’t think that the prices have gone up that much compared to how much more the tee stock costs. The tees have their own custom printed Seibei tag in them, which is cool since you don’t see that with too many small brands at the moment.

Most of the tees are $16, but if that isn’t a sweet enough deal for you, HYA has been set up with its very own coupon code, so when you make and order just put HIDEYOURARMS (all one word, not case sensitive) in the box on the shipping page, which is the first once you’re in the checkout, and you’ll get $4 off your order.

*I forgot to mention it earlier, but the coupon is valid until September 10th, so you have 19 days(ish depending on time zone) to pick up a bargain.*

With all the amazing weather I’ve been enjoying I almost forgot to post… sozzle, but at least I have a great hoodie to make up for my forgetfullness.

The idea of putting a life-size skeleton onto a piece of clothing is hardly original, I even saw Pete Wentz (the SFOB that gets me lots of google traffic) wearing a skeleton tee on the front of a UK magazine called Rock Sound, but I’ve got to pay waffo their dues and applaud the quality of design in their release. Unlike most offerings, this hoodie has the skeleton from both a front a rear view, admittedly no one is going to think you’re an actual skeleton, but it looks pretty sweet nonetheless.
