dr who

WeLoveFine.com just released some new Dr. Who designs that all revolve around those villainous Daleks. As you can tell, there’s quite a few random pop culture references in there, some of which seem a bit pointless, but there are some good ones too.

Shirts are $25 as usual and you can see the whole range (there’s more than I’ve shown above) on the dedicated Dalek page.

I went down the rabbit hole a bit with this shirt, and still I have no good information.

I spotted this Salvador Dalek shirt first on this Tumblr, and know what Doctor Who fans you guys are I decided to try and find out where to buy it.
The image looked like it was taken at a market or on a stall of some kind (based on the metal frame the shirts are stuck too), which didn’t give me much of a clue, but did make me feel a bit like Sherlock. I then Googled Salvador Dalek and came up with many worse shirts, until I came across this eBay auction selling the design with the seller claiming to have bought it at a British beer festival, it being too big for him, so he’s selling it.

I then went back to the original Tumblr and realised that the image was linked to Imgur, the popular photo service that was built by a Redditor and is used by many Redditors. This then led me back to the original thread on Reddit which was started by the person who took the picture, stating that it was seen at the Cambridge Beer Festival (where more than 100,000 pints were drank last week). Another commenter mentioned that they’d bought it at the Brighton Beer Festival last year, so I assume that means the sellers travel around different festivals selling shirts, which hopefully means that they might have a web presence of some kind.

Alas, that is where the trail ends, I could gain any more info about the name of the company selling them, so I’m throwing the net a bit wider and involving you guys on the off chance that one of you has seen the shirt being sold somewhere or know the designer/company.

T-shirt News for April 3rd

beetlejuice t-shirt

Apologies about missing a few days of the news and some general posting, I was visiting a relative in hospital on Friday, went away for a friend’s birthday at the weekend, then I took on the (very) temporary role of delivery driver yesterday, but I’m back now and things should be normal soon enough. Actually, I might miss tomorrow’s news, but after that things should be all good, I promise!

Beetlejuice makes an appearance at TeeFury.

Funny Aliens shirt at Shirt.Woot.

Transformers are a part of this charity tee at RIPT today.

calvin & hobbes t-shirt

I’m not going to pretend that I know a lot about Calvin and Hobbes, but this shirt from TeeFury is fantastic.

This Shirt.Woot tees doesn’t make sense to most Brits because what you Americans call a ‘boot’ we call a ‘clamp’, both words are okay, but naturally I think that since we invented English our choice of term is superior.

Y’know, it’s actually been quite a while since we’ve seen a Doctor Who t-shirt, thanks RIPT.

Top 5 t-shirts at RedBubble in February

by Andy on March 7, 2012

bill murray t-shirt

I got an e-mail from RedBubble that showed their top five best sellers in certain categories (t-shirts, posters, prints, that kind of thing) and I thought that it would be interesting to share with you. I don’t know what order they should be in, I just know that these are the top 5 according to RedBubble themselves. Predictably, all the designs have a pop culture reference in them in one way or another, proving that if you want to make money on RedBubble, art is nice but a reference will get you everywhere.

I’m kind of disappointed to see this Bill Murray t-shirt in the top 5, not because I don’t like it (who doesn’t love Bill Murray?) but because it’s just a LiveTrace of a photo and the designer admits that they don’t know who the original photographer is, and I think that if I were the photographer I’d like to at least be asked before one of my images was used on a t-shirt.

If I complained about the Bill Murray shirt then you won’t be surprised to find that I have similar qualms about this Breaking Bad inspired ‘Los Pollos Hermanos’ t-shirt since it’s practically the same as the original design from the show with just a bit of distressing to it. It is a pretty cool logo though so I can see why people are buying it.

Pretty sure I’ve featured this “Time-y Wimey” Doctor Who design by Tom Trager before when it was on one of the daily sites, but clearly it has been popular on RedBubble as well.

Very nice Troy & Abed x Calvin & Hobbes mashup by MeganLara. I like this because the mashup isn’t just two random pop cultures items picked because they’re popular, but because they actually make sense together.

‘College of Winterhold’ is a design referencing Game of Thrones, and that’s about as much background as I can give you on it, but college style designs like this are always popular so it’s hardly surprising that this has made it to the top five for February.

I know that I often write about items on HYA that skirt the edges of copyright infringement quite frequently and don’t pull people up for it, but I feel that this case is slightly different to the usual since there haven’t been large enough changes to the images for it to be deemed fair use in my opinion. Let me know in the comments if you think my thoughts have missed the mark.

T-shirt News for February 16th

by Andy on February 16, 2012

burger t-shirt

I love burgers and I approve this message at TeeFury.

One of the more subtle Star Wars t-shirts at Shirt.Woot today.

I don’t think this is an original Doctor Who concept at RIPT, but it certainly is well executed.

Victorian profanity makes for an entertaining shirt at Qwertee.

A slightly abstract Mario design at Shirt Punch, very wearable though.

The Yetee have a Mega Man x Evil Dead/Army of Darkenss t-shirt.

I’ve always thought that there are surprisingly few Star Trek designs out there, OtherTees are trying to redress the balance.

What’s the deal with all the He-Man designs at the moment? This one is from Tee Minus24

24tee have a shirt for Frank Zappa fans.

I can’t call myself a fan of today’s shirt at DBH.

A Better Tomorrow have an E.T. shirt as their latest winner.

ThinkGeek are selling random shirts for as low as $5.99.

Mishka have released a lookbook teaser video for their Spring 2012 collection.

doctor who cartoon t-shirt

Doctor Who meets Warner Bros. in this wonderful mashup tee at TeeFury.

“Winners in life” is up at Shirt.Woot.

Someone needs to hack Duke Nukem into Facebook. Great shirt from RIPT.

Qwertee have a Big Bang Theory t-shirt up for sale.

Really cool Shredder design at Shirt Punch today, not sure if I’d wear it but the artwork is great.

Ever notice how Nathan Fillion is usually playing a Captain? TeeMinus24 has.

24tee have another shirt from King of Kong. I wish that Mark Alpiger’s head wasn’t cut off at the top, surely they could have found a still in the movie where his whole head was in frame?

Tentacle design at DBH today.

Hey look, Tilteed are selling that Yeti shirt again.

Simply Complicated have released a teaser video for their Spring line.

Tea Towel company ToDryFor.com are having a sale with up to 60% off their interesting tea towels (which surprisingly enough is not an oxymoron).

Selekkt are have knocked a few euros off the simple yet stylish goods from FRISURclothing.

Luckie Losers are giving away a free tee with any order until the end of the month (unless your order is just wristbands, which is fair enough).

PLNDR are holding a ‘brand battle’ in which different brands enter themselves into a competition to get to sell their shirts on PLNDR. Our buddies over at Sugar Steak Apparel have entered and really need your votes!

T-shirt news for January 26th

star wars argyle t-shirt

Very nice argyle Star Wars t-shirt today at TeeFury.

Seems to me like this is the kind of design that Shirt.Woot should have been selling in the run up to Christmas.

RIPT drop a Milton Glaser-inspired Doctor Who t-shirt.

Harry Potter Muggle Ale shirt at Qwertee.

Those troublesome Tribbles are at Shirt Punch today.

Skyrim is the inspiration for this Nowhere Bad shirt.

I have no idea what the inspiration is for this design at The Yetee.

Star Wars meets Firefly today at OtherTees (who have a snazzy new site).

TeeRaiders have a Doctor Who design as well.

24tee go for the niche with one of the stars of the (surprisingly enthralling) King of Kong coin-op games documentary.

DBH love owls. On that subject, I saw a man walking down the street with an owl yesterday. Owls are great.

Hey look, Tilteed are selling one of their lesser seen designs again.

I have no idea what the kanji (presuming it’s Japanese) on this shirt says, so buyer beware at TeeMinus24.

Tee Gazette have put together their 10 favourite tees from the Storenvy marketplace for January.

Sock Monkee have released their Ampertastic Mr. Fox design as a print.

Adam over at IAMTHETREND busts six commonly held myths about his employer Storenvy.

Wrongwroks have released a parka with a faux fur trim.

Threadless have made some tees available to be put on Xbox avatars, and they cost about $1 each, but here’s the real kicker, if you want a hoodie you have to pay $2. They’re pixels, just because it costs double in real life doesn’t mean that they should cost double on the Xbox marketplace!

Glennz has made some more designs available as hoodies.

Mashable have a guide to building a strong online community around your brand.

Everything is on sale at Myth Clothing.

This Rihanna ‘thug life’ tattoo picture has been doing the rounds, but it’s her John Lennon t-shirt that interests me the most.

Here’s Katy Perry wearing a pretty cool hoodie (and I suspect a cool skull-based all over print t-shirt too).

Buy one get one free (on tees, not hoodies) at Eleven Eleven.

Typography Shop have put all their hoodies on sale.

Sehubabe have released a hoodie and t-shirt for Transardentes 2012 (a Belgian electro rock festival).

TanDan have been added as a brand store at A Better Tomorrow.

Daily T-shirt News Roundup for January 11th

by Andy on January 11, 2012

peewee herman t-shirt

First time I’ve ever posted a Peewee Herman design (I think so at least), courtesy of TeeFury.

Unfortunately when I see a t-shirt with a red sun on it that has anything to do with Japan I tend to think it’s a charity tee, and this design wold definitely work for that, but it’s actually just a regular design from Shirt.Woot that says “hey, ain’t Japan super?”

Never before have I been so close to buying a shirt from RIPT, anyone else a big Doug fan when they were growing up?

Ian Leino has a shirt at The Yetee for the next couple of days.

I know exactly how you feel, buddy. Qwertee.

Very cool Zelda design from Shirt Punch today.

I’m quite tempted to pick up this shirt from DBH.

TeeMinus24 have a comic inspired t-shirt today.

Well, that was a short roundup!

Daily T-shirt Roundup for January 9th

sloth goonies t-shirt

I’m not too excited by the Sloth & Crossbones Goonies shirt at TeeFury today, you?

Very cute illustration style on this Shirt.Woot tee, maybe this shirt will perk you up to stick with your New Year’s resolutions?

Not the kind of Star Wars t-shirt that I’d wear, but a pretty cool concept from RIPT nonetheless.

Can anyone explain to me why The Yetee are describing this felines as pizzacats?

Very cool Fantastic Mr. Fox inspired t-shirt at Shirt Punch today.

GraphicLab have a shirt that is a little lost on me, it’s a mashup of The Impossible Man from the Marvel universe and Magnitude from Community.

Star Trek inspired visual pun from TeeMinus24 today.

I’m fairly sure that this TeeRaiders design is the first Warehouse 13 shirt that I’ve seen.

Stupidhurts.us give this well worn phrase another run out.

OtherTees have a Doctor Who shirt that I’m sure I’ve seen before.

Qwertee make a connection between Portal and zombies.

We don’t have Fresca over here in the UK, so this 24tee shirt is wasted on me.

Cool new shirt at DBH today.

There’s a couple of new shirts up on pre-order at Goodjoe.

Loviu reiterate their ‘barbie is a slut’ stance.

Tilteed have their boomerang-based design up again.

Catch of the Day Tee have nothing for us, again.

Tee Gazette has an update on the Boston Tee Party event being held in the summer.

I saw this t-shirt on Flickr months ago and it’s taken me until now to remember to post it.

Co-Tee TV Episode 88: Moustardche, Javaboi Industries, and Hot Dogs from Coty Gonzales on Vimeo.

Coty has a new episode of Co-Tee TV up, featuring Moustardache, Javaboi Industries, and Hot Dogs.

The selection process may have been unscientific, but it’s nice to see HYA at the top (the position may or may not mean anything) of this list of the “21 Most Important t-shirt blogs of 2011.”

Tee Hunter take a look at the A Bathing Ape x Star Wars collection.

Fuel Your Creativity have an article about starting a clothing line with no money. It does make it all seems a little easy in my eyes, but there are worse stepping off points.

Here’s another t-shirt from PalmerCash I bookmarked ages ago but never got around to posting about.

2sickbastards have got up to 50% off their art prints until January 13th.

Snapback hats are now in store at Glamour Kills.

Daily Tees & News for December 20th

by Andy on December 20, 2011

night of the living dead t-shirt

This TeeFury shirt has everything, horror, a movie parody, 80s games, 8-bit, and lots of criticism in their comments about the head looking pasted on!

Not often you see an orange shirt, usually it only happens when Tilteed pull this design out of the closet.

This Shirt.Woot design is simple but I like it. I’ve never ordered anything from Shirt.Woot, what are their delivery times like? Any chance you’ll be able to wear this before Egg Nog season is over?

Daily Tees & News for December 12th

by Andy on December 12, 2011

breaking bad t-shirt

Everyone have a good weekend? I did until last night when I had a nasty fall during my snowboarding lesson at the dry slope. Fell on my front, my jakcet rode up and my stomach turned into ‘brakes’, my tummy new resembles those crisps that are meant to look like streaky bacon, oh, the pain!

I really want to get into Breaking Bad, but after a couple of episodes of the first season it was just too depressing so I stopped, I will probably try again though. Shirt is $10 today at TeeFury.

I haven’t read Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy, but apparently this Qwertee shirt has something to do with it.

Apparently this RIPT tee is something to do with a cartoon show that may or may not be on TV anymore but to be completely honest I don’t recognise it and no one mentions it in the RIPT comments, your suggestions please!

And what band is this Owl at Shirt.Woot listening to? The Who, of course!

Pretty rare that you see a Gremlins tee, but this is a lovely example of the breed at The Yetee.

Seinfeld Festivus shirt over at TeeMinus24. Funny how you don’t hear much about Christmukkah nowadays.

I haven’t seen Donnie Darko so this shirt at OtherTees may or may not be genius.

You want an Angry Birds t-shirt? 24tee have got it!

A melting Portal companion cube greets us today at TeeRaiders.

I really like this Star Wars design at Graphic Lab, but I do question the black on dark grey colour choice. Then again, it would probably look a bit naff if it was on a white t-shirt.

Ahhh, one of my favourite Loviu designs.

Pikachu gets an outing on this Shirt Punch design.

Tshirt Contest ensure that we have at least one Doctor Who t-shirt today, thank goodness.

Very nice shirt of the day at DBH.

BustedTees deal of the next couple of days is their attachment that you put on a beer to make it look like you have a mustache. Presumably it’s like those little win trinkets people buy so that you know who’s wine glass belongs to who, except for beer. $8.99 for 6 instead of $11.99

Expansion II comes out to play once again at Tilteed.

Tee Mashups is a site I found out about at the weekend that offers designs on sale for 48 hours. Today and tomorrow they have a Dick Tracey vs Carmen Sandiego shirt available.

Megan Fox may be a very attractive lady, and that’s a pretty cool sweatshirt, but I will never understand why people wear stuff that looks like it has spent a few months with a bunch of moths.

Wrongwroks have added hiking boots to their product range, of course.

There’s 25% off everything today only at Loserkids.

Mashable have a good resource for increasing Facebook engagement through custom tabs that should be useful for store owners.

Yes No Maybe have a few coupon codes available. The more you spend the more you save, all the way up to 20% off.

Original Music Shirt, who I still think took a lot of inspiration from Threadless with their redesign, are offering free global shipping with the coupon code ILIKETOMOVEIT if you spend 25€+ before December 14th.

Springleap are holding a contest that is only open to previous design winners, which should make for some pretty tasty entries.

OMUNKY are offering 18% off from now until December 19th with the coupon code 18off2011.

PalmerCash are now selling shirts, the kind with buttons!

The Quiet Life are running a holiday promo, if you spend $100 or more they’ll give you a free duffel bag that they usuall charge $40 for. It would be perfect for carrying around your gym gear since that will inevitably be your new years resolution. Go to the gym more dammit Andy! They’ve also restocked their hat selection.

Terratag are knocking 10% off all orders. No coupon necessary, the discount will automatically be applied at the checkout.

Whilst I do like the idea of ‘ugly’ Christmas tees I think that this Kickstarter project might be a bit too late, it won’t be funded (if it reaches 100%) until January 9th, and then when will you receive the shirt? I’m pretty sure everyone’s Christmas cheer will be long gone by that time.

And the winner of the TshirtContest #5 is… “Time Lords Social Club” by Odysseyroc! Printed on super soft 100% ringspun cotton tees.

The Time Lord faced me from the other side of the pentagram. I could tell he was a Time Lord from the shirt he was wearing. ‘Time Lords Social Club’, it said. I was agitated.

“You’re a Time Lord,” I said deliberately. I raised the disintegrator an inch, level to his chest.

“Well, that’s what the t-shirt says, doesn’t it?” He responded. He was cool as a cucumber, this one… staring back nonchalantly under a floppy mop of brown hair. That fez on top of his head… what was that about?

… Read More at http://catalog.TshirtContest.com/

Andy: You’re probably wondering why this isn’t in the daily post, well, it will be there too, but since they submitted a post I thought I’d include it as a standalone post too.
