I have no idea who Dolls for Idols are, I don’t really keep myself in the loop when it comes to music anymore, but judging from the song above they’re pretty cool. I may not know music but I do know tees and I really like this design, the typography is delightful and I think that the design really suits theiur style of music, it’s the kind of thing that I can imagine wearing to a club on a night out.
I can imagine someone getting a bit over-excited about this shirt and running through Mintees-town screaming “Rip! Rip! Manticores assemble!” (not that I’m saying Mintees is over-reactionary like that, it’s just that a lot of ripoffs are discovered and discussed there), but I’m fairly sure that in this case it can be called an homage to the iconic Daft Punk logo.
I like the way that the text is designed and styled, but the actual words are a little empty, to me at least, they probably have meaning to Fat Gold. I get the feeling that the brain tee (it’s made up of insects and things that make me clench my hands into fists and shut my eyes real tight because I’m afraid of stuff like that, also, scorpions, which I think is fair enough) will look a lot cooler in reality than in the mockup that you can see above, especially since most of their back catalogue is damn nice.
I looked at Fat Gold‘s shop, and decided that they were “actually pretty good.” If you’re wondering where the ‘actually’ in that description comes from, it’s because I judge a company based on their name when I receive an e-mail, and I thought that Fat Gold were going to be another loud & lame streetwear label, and I was pleasantly surprised by the goods that I found on the site. I’m pretty sure there’s a famous saying about judging things based upon an initial observation.
The t-shirts may be a bit logo-riffic for some, although this Daft Punk logo tribute tee truly tickles me, but I like the strong simplicity of the line and that all the colourways look very wearable. They offer free delivery in Malta, so it’s safe to presume that Fat Gold are a Maltese company. I went to Malta once a few years ago, and all I remember is dog crap in the streets, a massive bell that rang out just as I walked up to it, and that the whole island was collectively awarded the George Cross for the battering they received in the Second World War.
