Congrats to Go Ape on their 2nd birthday. Next week, for a month, Josh (Mr. Go Ape) is going to China (lucky him!), but he is leaving shipping duties in the presumably capable hands of his girlfriend, Caren, so hopefully you won’t be able to notice a difference in service.

Go Ape really know how to get ‘names’, don’t they?
I assume that YASLY is well known to most people in design circles, since if I know who he is, then its safe to presume that he’s pretty well known. I guess that him being a ‘name’ shouldn’t be an issue, if a tees good, its good, if a tees bad, its bad, it doesn’t matter who the designer is, although I guess famous artists are more likely to make good tees on a regular basis… I don’t know where I’m going with this… this is a cool tee though.

There is a lot of new news today! “Boo Boo Walker“, “Guitar Solo“, “The Zombie of Oz“, and “Battle!” [monkey + robots ftw!] have all been restocked. “The Persistence of Rock” was also reprinted, but this time on army colored tees. The next big piece of news is that two new shirts are now up for sale! Olly Moss’s third design for Go Ape Shirts is called “The Waste Land“, inspired by the T.S. Eliot poem of the same name. It is a jumbo print on a creme-colored shirt. “Zero” [pictured] was designed by Joshua Agerstrand aka ladrones. This design was printed on grey tri-blend tees, which are SUPER soft. They do tend to run a bit smaller than the normal AA tees and shrink a little more, so you may want to order a size up if you’re between sizes. The extra cost of these tees is due to the extra cost of the blanks. Lastly, if you order more than one shirt, I’ll throw in an issue of Beautiful/Decay!
I’m sure that there’ll be some people who are rather happy to hear about those reprints, get on it before all the hardcore Star Wars fans buy the Boo Boo Walker & Guitar Solo tees!

And in celebration of this (or maybe because its September now and I can hear the rain outside my window) they’ve started selling their Boo Boo Walker design in that most awesome of forms - the hoodie!
Details are a bit limited on the site (you have to put the hoodie in your shopping basket to find out that it’s asphalt coloured), but they’re printed on American Apparel pullover hoodies, which I love since receiving my first AA hoodie earlier this week, not that I hated them before, of course.

Too hot for hoodies, am I right, folks?
Go Ape Shirts sprang to the attention of the ’sphere a few months ago when Dave Horowitz’s infamous Boo Boo Walker design struck a chord with Star Wars loving hipsters. Amazingly, Go Ape hasn’t been sued for copyright infringement by George Lucas and are back with their second series of shirts, complimenting the first series, which are still on sale (well, you wouldn’t stop printing a bestseller now, would you?).
The two new shirts are both nice (click on the thumbnail to see them in greater detail), with ‘Elliots’ New Friend’ being a great mashup of 80s pop-culture, but I wouldn’t want to make it seem as if Go Ape is only strong when it’s referencing movies, company owner Josh has brought together an impressive collection of artists, and he seems to be being very selective about what he’s selling.
The website is still fairly idiosyncratic at the moment, being kind of a blog/store hybrid, though there are some very nice implementations of Flash that it would be nice to see extending throughout the site. Josh has also said that he might order some hoodies when it starts to get a bit cooler (Go Ape is in Arizona though, so you may be waiting some time!), so keep an eye out for them in the future.
All shirts are screen printed on American Apparel and are a reasonable $18 + shipping and handling.
