Looking at his store, Josh really has made a lot of memorable designs in the past few years. Both of these reprints are available for $20 each.

I’m not used to this kind of speedy release schedule by Go Ape Shirts, what’s happening over there guys!?

Nice concept for a shirt and it is certainly well executed, good job Ian. Oh, and Boo Boo Walker has been reprinted too.

ice age survivor t-shirt If you’re worried about having that big of a print on a black t-shirt, fear not, the underbase is a discharge print so it shouldn’t be too bad. To be honest I don’t really understand what’s going on with this design, it certainly does look cool.

Josh has also restocked the Olly Moss design ‘Robocop riding a unicorn over the alps‘ printed on a grey shirt this time (previously it was on red).

20% off coupon code for Go Ape Shirts

by Andy on March 28, 2011

go ape coupon code

Last week the Go Ape Shirts site had more than a few issues, some of which seem to have been a bit catastrophic because Josh has abandoned the site altogether and switched over to a Storenvy storefront, which will hopefully prove to be a bit more robust for his needs.

That’s the fairly boring news, but it has a flip side, because Josh has created a coupon code, EVOLVE, that will give you a very tasty 20% off your order. I don’t remember Go Ape ever having a coupon code before (maybe the cart software couldn’t handle it), so this is a welcome rarity indeed.

beatles t-shirt

I know it’s blasphemy, but I don’t really care about the Beatles, I’ve never really looked too deeply into their body of work, sure, I don’t have anything against them, but I don’t really understand what the big deal is either.

erasing hands escher t-shirt go ape shirts

Nice to see Go Ape Shirts dropping a new design, they were too quiet last year, hopefully this is a sign that they’ll be releasing tees on a more frequent basis in 2011. Oh, and this Escher inspired design is by the hands (geddit?) of Tang Yau Hoong, whose work I’m always glad to see.

Robocop riding a Unicorn? YES!

by Andy on September 9, 2010

robocop on a unicorn red t-shirt

Finally, what everyone has been asking for, a cyborg policeman riding a mythical one-horned beast. I think it’s concepts like this that separate guys like Olly Moss from everyone else that owns a cope of Illustrator. I actually just so happened to get this tee in the mail today (I’m special!), so I can vouch for the print being of good quality and the details all being there, it is a much more impressive design in reality than it looks in the images I’ve put with this post. It looks a bit messy and confusing in the model shot, like you can’t really make it out, but that’s definitely not the case with the real tee. Go Ape have also available printed it onto a silver tee for those of you that aren’t in the mood for red, and it’s worth checking out the rest of the store because some people designs have been restocked, and some designs have been printed on different colour tees.

Valholla at Go Ape Shirts

Valholla at Go Ape Shirts

When I first saw this design I thought it was pretty weak, especially by Go Ape’s high standard, and I must admit that I’m still very much on the fence about it now, but seeing it being worn by a person does make it seema a lot more wearable, and there’s no denying that the colourway is nice… I dunoo, thoughts?

vintage pretension by go ape shirts

It’s been a while since I’ve had the opportunity to report on a new tee from Go Ape, I was getting a little worried that Josh was losing his thirst for the industry, but I would suspect that it was more an issue to do with his studies since I think he is/was attending college. Really nice colourway on this tee, unfortunately for the ladies, the print is incorrect on the women’s sizes. The print is clearly big on a guys tee, and the print shop used the same screens for the women’s tees, meaning that they’re missing some or all of the lower text, which is a real shame, but to soften the blow the ladies versions are $10 compared to the $18 for guys.

memento mori t-shirt by olly moss for go ape shirts

Go Ape Shirts have been quiet for a while, because owner Josh has started Grad school and understandably that is taking up quite a lot of his time. He’s trying to get things going again, and a tee from Olly Moss is probably quite a good way of going about that. I like this design and the print looks absolutely spot on in those close-up photos, but I would quite like to know a bit of backstory as to who those people are on the skull because it feels slightly unusual to see people being used in a design in such a way without their faces being shown for a reason.

Oh, another Watchmen reference on the left there, or am I now seeing The Watchmen everywhere?

When I first looked at this design I wasn’t so into it, but then when I saw it on Flickr being worn by Josh I actually really liked it, there’s something about the size and the slight curve (that is probably all in my head judging by the artwork up there) that works very nicely.

I feel duty bound to report on everything that Go Ape release because I’m usually a big fan of whatever they sell, but I’m afraid that this one just isn’t working for me, possibly because it reminds me too much of the one Seibei design that I don’t particularly care for.

Go Ape Are Walken On Sunshine

by Andy on December 10, 2008

I would have thought that “Walken in a Winter Wonderland” would have been a bit more seasonal, but I guess that with a pun this good it doesn’t really matter whether it’s sunshine, snow, or even broken glass, it’s still going to be funny.

This hoodie isn’t actually new, and the design has been up at Go Ape Shirts for a couple of years, but it’s nice to finally see some real life pictures of it so that you can get a better feel for how it looks on the hoodie.

Bar Trekkin’ by Go Ape Shirts [Review]

by Andy on November 24, 2008

Much like my last review, you can’t actually buy this one either (sorry, again), but this time it isn’t because the tee being limited edition, it’s because Go Ape Shirts got a friendly letter from CBS, who own the copyright to Star Trek, asking them to stop selling the tee. To me, this is quite clearly a parody, and there are lots of shirts out there for sale that are far more blatantly ripping the intellectual property of Star Trek, but Goliath tends to beat David in these situations, which is why I ended up receiving one of these tees. Even if you can’t buy this tee, it does serve as a good reminder that Go Ape consistently release some fantastic designs and have the print quality to do them justice.

Here’s the latest news from Go Ape Shirts:

It’s that time again! “Battleready” by the very talented Derek M Ballard is now up for sale. It is a jumbo print and our first on American Apparel’s organic and sustainable shirts. In more unfortunate news, a lot of you have noticed that the “Bar Trekkin'” shirt suddenly went missing. This shirt has been challenged by CBS, owners of the Star Trek franchise. While we believe that the design is a parody protected by law, we are complying with their demand. Lastly, it is holiday shopping season again already! I will do my best to get to the post office once every three business days at the longest. When you place an order, if you received a confirmation email from PayPal, I have received your order. Sorry if this is not clear.

Personally, I think that the Bar Trekkin’ tee was well within the grounds of parody, but I can understand why GAS can’t fight it. Battleready looks pretty cool too, eh guys?
